Your definition of "lossy" is a bit off. It's not a loss-over-time issue; rather, it is a compression/decompression issue. Encoding analog audio into a digitally compressed format will result in some loss when it is decompressed, i.e. played back in analog. There will be some loss there (high-end treble and low-end bass usually suffer the most), but it is "close enough" to justify the reduction in file size.
...with some transparent concrete to build a transparent house! Now people who want to live in a "glass" house don't have to worry about throwing things at each other! Oh, but they still have to worry about being naked...
If a list contains elements which subsequently include commas, semicolons should be used to separate each element of the list rather than simple commas. For example: I ate warm soup; a ham, turkey, and bacon sandwich; and a pickle for lunch.
Universal was only in for the money. They weren't doing it for the artists. It's all about the Benjamin's baby! If Courtney gets her share, I wonder how many other artists will hop on and demand their share also. Maybe Ms. Love had more of an influence with the Universal folks to get the lawsuit through??
Handspring used to replace broken LCD displays once, and once only, for FREE! I guess they are no longer doing that. I always felt reassured walking around with my Visor, but now that they are charging, that reassurance is gone.
...they aren't embedding the URLs in the barcode... they are linking the bar code readout (a serial number) to the URL on the CUeCat server. This is the same way the Digimarc technology works.
IBM could be considered a major gateway for Linux becoming more "mainstream." linux needs the support of the big companies in order to win over the average consumer.

i saw a show on the discovery channel recently detailing the life of the crew on an aircraft carrier. computers were present in some of the crew's rooms, which had internet access. Does anyone know what method was used to supply email and internet access to the ship??
one benefit of napster is the fact that people assume that they are downloading the song indicated by the title. my friend and i wrote and recorded some silly songs about wearing women's underwear and poopsex last year. recently, we converted these songs to mp3 format and renamed them with popular artist titles, like britney spears, limp bizkit, etc. numerous unsuspecting napster users have downloaded these songs and to their amazement they surely found that they did not get what was anticipated. so if any of you slashdotters hear songs named "poopsex" or "i like to wear your underwear," you now know how napster was used to dupe users and promote silliness!! and if i have prodded your interest, go find the songs yourself! they are also on napster by the real titles, so if you want a good laugh, go have a listen!
One of the most amusing things with this episode of the X-Files was that the game was run from a lowly PC. When I saw the guys tooling around in a PC case, I cracked up. Get a clue.
Seeing as how the advance of integrated circuits and microprocessors has changed the face of computing over the past few decades from the days of vaccuum tubes, classroom learning has also changed in the same fashion. No longer do EE and CompE students study the theories behind punch cards and vaccuum tubes, but rather the latest advances in those areas. How much of the current learning in an engineering curriculum will be done away with after the successful implementation of nanotechnology? Will students no longer need to study the EMFs created in circuits, etc? What else could be removed?

...because the universities are going to license every single CD that each and every one of their students are interested in, right?

All of those FPS addicts would finally get a decent workout (not just their wrists) if they had to use a treadmill. Nice concept!

it appears as though you yourself incorrectly spelled the incorrect spelling of the word you said was "misspelled".
