"And one of the many faults of capitalism is that those with a ton of money can do the stupidest shit and still come out okay."
You're right, it would be much better if the state produced consumer goods. We'd all have one phone, brown in color, with only the functionality the State thought we needed. And no pesky instant messaging for organizing government protests.
That's one of the great things about capitalism; I earned it, I get to spend it how I want.
But, in this case, it is. Or are you trying to tell me that color palms weren't out a decade ago, which are actually e-readers with more functionality and a smaller form factor?
"...perhaps you should be using google Scholar for your academic research."
Good point. And google code for code that may help that programming project. And so on (I don't know what other specific search pages google has, but there must be others.) Google.com is of course the premier page for advertisers, so using it to search is going to return some bad results skewed to whomever has paid google the most money. Fortunately has provided other tools.
"So true. I can't wait for the day I have kids and tell them I make all the money, so I get to tell them what to do (the dished for starters). I have to start somewhere.
So what's your point? Google owes Chinese workers a living? Last I heard China was doing just fine.
And then we have this gem;
sorry, frog. i'm not kissing you to turn you into my princess. i'm a software engineer. i have no time for a girlfriend
No, he ran out of money after laying out 1 MILLION DOLLARS for his laser shark program, which in his day was a tidy sum. He then had to be rushed to the hospital following a heart attack upon getting mortgage papers explaining he owed well over $750 Million in back mortgage payments for his island lair. His balloon payments were calculated to be only $100K/month in the 60's.
I just wonder. I don't understand how a company flush with cash would ignore such a huge market. Jobs has not been bashful about snapping up the consumer market and swatting down the competition. But then to ignore, actually shy away from the server market... that doesn't compute in my data banks.
More people than you think, and I personally know of other companies taking a serious look at it. F# has some interesting features, besides part of the family of functional languages like ocaml, one of the biggest is how F# sees all discrete parts of a process, those running in separate machines, as part of the same process space. Its going to revolutionize multi-process computing if picked up widely enough.
Too bad, if true. From a technical perspective its a good language, a respectable entry in the world of functional languages. Its one of the Microsoft-developed tools they appear to have gotten right, in my opinion.
So, can one ask; WHY THE MOVE? I see random comments here ("X sucks") and the like, but what are the specific technical reasons for this? I don't know that I really care one way or the other, I think the only thing I care about is compatibility. But I am curious to know Canonical's decision for this.
Agreed. So-called "hate-crimes" sound too much like the crime-of-the-day. Who in fact defines what exactly a hate crime is? Is the murder of a black person more heinous that the killing of an Irishman? If so, why? Seems to me that murder is murder, and calling one a "hate-crime" puts more worth on some one's life due to their race or creed, which goes completely against the principal of a blind justice system.
In the jurisdiction where I live (CA), felons may not own guns, vote, or hold a passport. I know this to be fact; I'm married to someone who works in law enforcement. My "arguments" as you put it are valid on the face of it. What you didn't add was that as far as I know felons who are on probation absolutely may not do these things. Now once the probationary period is completed felons (who at that point are ex-felons) may have their records expunged or the legals statuses of gun ownership or passport holding modified, judge and jurisdiction discretion. Your statement is the incorrect one. You see, its disingenuous not to disclose all the information. But then what would one expect of an ex-felon?
My solution to all these privacy problems is very simple, I don't use FB. Period. I have no presence on it and I feel *relatively* confident they don't have any personal data on me.
And- plug in to what, exactly? The innernets? So you can d./l from that itunes deal? Ok.. I guess that's a draw. I think I'd have more fun with my linux netbook running kismet and the air*-ng suite, but whatever trips your trigger.
According to the article these batteries power warehouse equipment (forklifts, presumably) for up to 30 hours on a charge, and have been in use for years. Ok, so they've been kept a secret for all this time?
"Doesn't Microsoft dominate the OS marketshare, wasn't Windows 7 a huge hit, isn't xbox 360 kicking ass right now..."
Granted, its a long, slow decline, but unless you've been living under a rock you should have noticed that the OS is becoming less and less relevant in the Connected Age.
XBox 360 is a great product, but it loses money for Microsoft every quarter. They need to raise the price by at least 25% to just break even, and the pressure from the other console makers won't allow that.
Unless the WPhone7 is a huge game-changing success, and judging by past performance, it won't be, the WPhone7 won't change a thing.

Yeah, sounds pretty expensive.. And whenever I read "carbon-negative" I think "Sure. carbon negative. That's going to happen..."
Then again, it is the Japanese proposing these designs, they're pretty good about stuff like that.

Anjuta & Code Blocks are as close as you're going to get. That said, they aren't bad IDEs.

Don't discount it. Once the technology improves, this could be a way of making less expensive, much stronger bodies for vehicles.
Right. But the paper jams are going to be murder to fix.
Was it something Oracle said?

Felons, especially those on parole, can't get passports, along with own guns and vote.

OOOWW!!!! Ooohh... ouch! I think I just lost my lunch because you're such a geek loser. Wow!
Mod up, dawg. Excellent point.
