Wow - that would be cool. They could just buy one and put all of its content searchably online to start and get the ball rolling.

Here's what I did when I took a trip to Europe last month:
    1. Set up a temporary gmail account with a dumb password I don't use anywhere else. Also set a signature reminding everyone I'm on vacation and that they should still only email my normal account. Set the reply-to accordingly.
    2. Set my normal gmail account to forward (but keep copies of my mail) to the temp account
    3. Turn off forwarding when I return, change password to something else on my temp account
This meant I didn't have to have friends email a temporary account and I could still receive any important emails I'd normally get. Even if the account did get compromised there's no chance anybody could sift through all the email I have stored in gmail. Good enough for me...

Heh..yeah, I was thinking of something ala Strangelove - where you could ride the deemer and jump off to have it continue going and blow up normally. Doing that in a scorpion would be soooo cool... :D

I'd also like to see more interesting weapons and vehicals. Every FPS has the same handful of weapons that every other FPS has. It would be neat to have something crazy and interesting that doesn't also screw up the gameplay.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Pretty much every new version of UT has brought us at least one or two interesting new weapons. Maybe some of the other FPS games (all the tactical shooters, world war 2 games, CS clones) have stale weapons, but they've done pretty well with UT*.

    For instance...

    • Unreal: the Ripper, the Bio Rifle, even the shock combo was a neat new thing (though it didn't really come into play until..
    • UT99: The redeemer and THE TRANSLOCATOR (one of the best ideas for a FPS to date). And the shock combo came into major use.
    • UT2k3: Should never be spoken of.
    • UT2k4: Spider mines, sticky mines, a reason to use the new link gun.

As for vehicles? Well 2k4's the first to have them and there's a decent variety. I love the fact that you can bail out of one of the vehicles in 2k7 and have it keep going to detonate on impact...sweet.

I'm hoping Epic really means it when they say they're going for gameplay over graphics this time around..because I would love to have a game as great as UT99 come along again.

About a year ago I interviewed at Intuit and while I was there I got to speak with a lot of employees. At the end of the day I asked an employee about the whole C-Dilla thing and she told me that heads rolled for that - the person managing that project was fired and Intuit apologized to their customers.

So the grandparent's post is a bit off.

Still, that doesn't mean Intuit won't try to figure out new ways to divvy up products so that you buy more from them (ItsDeductible!), but they at least care when a lot of people get upset.

The ability to have the search function work in text boxes. Straight Mozilla does this, IIRC.

It's a pain when editing lengthy text to have to copy it to and from a text editor just so I can find what I want to change rather than finding it in the edit form on the web. I'm still a die-hard FF fan though!

While many servers aren't moderated well, many more are - CSHP was the old cheat protection and PURE is the latest (although it hasn't been updated in quite a while). Find servers running PURE and play there - the protection has been broken by now, but if they're running PURE you can assume the admins are at least somewhat interested in the server and may make an effort to ban cheaters (we are actually running a custom version of PURE in the hopes that those using cheats that get by PURE will not be able to get by ours).

The other thing to think of is that many players you will think are cheating are in fact just really really really good - they'll be able to anticipate WHERE you're going to run and will make excellent shots. I'm not saying cheaters aren't out there, but that if you stumble across a server of hardcore players that you may think them all cheaters when in fact they're just really good.

UT's fun though..I've got it and UT2003 and still play UT over 2k3 any day. I play primarily on our custom map server (UnrealPlayground - the link by my nick) and we've got an active group of admins so we don't get many cheaters at all anymore(I'd say all of our recent bans have been for players harassing each other..not for cheating). The community is friendly and helpful to beginners - if you've got UT then stop on by and give your connection a workout. :D
