Integrated FM radio is a "great feature" because many of us are fortunate to live in an area where FM radio doesn't suck. I had a choice between buying an iPod and an iRiver H120. One had FM radio the other didn't, so I bought the H120.
Oh God, your people did this too ? I couldn't believe that when stores ran out of black (we get black free for gawds sake, how could they run out ?) someone took some blue sticks, shaved then down so they'd fit and rammed them in.
Then "we have no budget to purchase a new HP colorjet, but lots of money in the repair budget, so get it fixed". So we spent $1200 in parts and labor to clean it out.
Guess which department got blamed for the downtime and the cost..
Amazing "evidence" consists of two 25 year old artillery shells that contained cyclosarin that were purchased on the Iraqi black market.
Sounds like proof positive Saddam was up to no good, we should have nuked the bugger.
Sheesh, it seems some people still have a hard time accepting that there were no WMD found in Iraq. And no, you can't keep re-defining the word "WMD" to suit your purposes, show me physical proof of all those weapons that Colonel Powell displayed during his dog&pony show at the UN and then we'll see..
Long ago, they were in fact shown at the end of the film. But I can't imagine anyone today sitting through the credits to see them, most people make a bolt for the doors at the first sign the movie may be over.
Actually, everyone I know calls them "Previews" and not "Trailers". I can't be sure, but even the clips I download from Apple start with a blurb stating "This Preview is approved for viewing blah blah...".
As an aside, does anyone sit through the credits anymore ? I always try to watch them, sometimes there's clips or little "easter eggs" mixed in.
Don't know if this in the same league as some of the other stories here, but I welcome the chance to come clean and finally confess..
I had a nice home built computer that I used for gaming and internet access. I was upgrading the network card and was having issues with getting the card identified properly. So after some poking around, I realized that my BIOS was a few revisions out of date. Manufacturers website had a current BIOS rev that purported to fix the problem I was having, so I proceeded to flash my computer with the latest version.
After about halfway through, I saw a message that said something like "Error in checksum, press Y to reboot or N to Exit".
Then I had a neuron misfire or something, because I thought "N" and pressed "Y" instead.
Doh!
So I found out then that a computer with a corrupted BIOS will not boot or even turn on. I searched for someone at work or online that could re-flash my bios, and ended up ordering a new chip from somewhere in Texas. After waiting a few days for the delivery, the lack of internet access at home was driving me nuts so I broke down and bought a new MB/RAM/CPU and got things up and running that day.

First week on the job, a computer in the R&D area was having issues with performance I had fixed the problem and decided to do some cleanup as well. Deleted the temp files, removed some unnecessary programs, had a look in the User Profiles tab and saw there were a whole bunch of user profiles there that said "account unknown". Must be from users who have logged on to the computer in the past and have since left the company. So I started deleting them all (hmm, seem to be a lot of them) and noticed as the list scrolled down that the last profile was "Local Computer\Administrator".
Oops, seems I had unplugged the network cable and was off the domain, so the User Profiles window could not resolve the names. And of course deleting the profiles this way means no recovery from the recycle bin. Had to apologize profusely to the guy for deleting his profile, but it did make me more paranoid about deleting files.
Exactly why I passed on the iPod and got an iRiver H120 instead.
Having FM radio is important to me, as I listen to CBC radio every day on the bus. I gladly paid more for the Iriver than I would have for the iPod, just to get the FM radio.
And I must say, the H120 is the best MP3 player I've ever used. Great sound and battery life, along with a wonderful inline remote control.
And outfitted with a black iSkin, it looks way cooler than that shiny white brick everyone else is carrying around..
Even better, the fact that this is not the first article to refer to network speeds as "DVDs per second/minute/hour"
It must piss off the MPAA and RIAA when the media uses DVD/MP3 as a benchmark for network performance.
There are at least 3 of them in Ottawa.
Even stranger, on Merivale road they built a Best Buy directly across the street from the Future Shop. Then they proceeded to begin construction on a new Future Shop directly beside new Best Buy, with not more than a few meters separating them.
If BB owns FS, then where's the logic in having two brand new stores so close together?
No argument with you there, we have a number of badly behaving third-party and in house apps that must run with full admin privileges or they fail, and Windows gleefully bends over and gives them full access to it's entire system folder.
It causes us endless grief, but it does help to keep me employed...
Since this worm uses no "exploit" or "security flaw" in IE, instead relying on the ignorance of the recipient, maybe you'd have better luck legislating against ignorance ?
With the "Great Internet Worm" in 1988, the creator was given three years probation, 400 hours community service and a fine of $10,000. I don't remember anyone suggesting the creators of UNIX should be sued...
(I'm gonna get flamed, but it's late, I'm cranky, and a little venting of one's spleen can be therapeutic)
Can't agree with all of what you had to say, but your reference to the constant propaganda against men that passes as "advertising" is spot on.
I wish I could be trusted to give cold medicine to my kids or feed them dinner, but according to the message I get from the media I'm just a stupid man that should know better than to try to do a Woman's job.
Give this a try, next time you see an ad on TV, mentally switch the gender of the subject from male to female. Funny how easily and quickly the word "sexist" springs to mind....
Absolutely true, you vote for the person who best represents your views. No doubt many people just vote for the party, but as I recall the name of the party doesn't even show up on the ballot.
Gotta remember, we don't have the "winner take all, the losers be damned" system up here. Sometimes I think American elections are all about electing a King to replace the one they rebelled against all those years ago.
There was a good quote from Sideshow Mel in The Simpsons along the lines of "..a deep need to elect someone to rule over you like a King.." Wish I could find it.
This was was most reasonable reply I'd seen on this topic, and it gets modded as a -1 Troll ??
For pete's sake, can someone explain why he's wrong ? Or is the suggestion that people get up off their collective asses and make a teeny-tiny effort to play fair with other peoples music such a terrible thing ?
Gahhhh, it's like "if I can't get it for free, on demand, with no effort, delivered to my door, in the format of my choosing", then it's evil and must be stopped"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the RIAA originally use the drop in CD-Singles sales as a rational for their perceived loss in profits from file sharing ?
True, the headline should read "Legal US Music Downloads Beat CD Single Sales", but it's worth pointing out that this is exactly the same skewed reporting that the RIAA is so fond of.
" No one bashes straight people. Straight people aren't persecuted in society. "
Gross generalizations about a particular group are hurtful and can be considered discriminatory.
I think you've just nullified your own statement.

Perhaps you mean ..had access to disposable cash... (past tense)
;)
Sorry
I don't think that just because someone has an IPOD on their person it means there's a big wad of cash in their pocket.
"This is a good opportunity for Windows users to migrate to a free desktop."
Errr, don't Windows users need to migrate to a free OS first ? Don't confuse the Windows users !
