    Unless we want the entire world to know that assurances of protection given in exchange for giving up their nuclear weapons are worth slightly less than the paper they're written on.

    I thought that was made crystal clear after Gaddafi was ousted from power.

    Who says we are interested in leaving Ceres out? I'm fine with keeping both in and Eris too for that matter.

    If the IAU is too lazy to come up with names for the planets just call them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7... SOL-3. That sounds good.

    Some people know that human language is context sensitive and adjust their expectations of meaning conforming to context. WTF is wrong with KB meaning 1024 bytes? The only problem was hard disk manufacturers and their BS propaganda. No one else uses their definition.

    Precisely. Not was credit made easier to access and the loan payback periods extended to ridiculous amounts but Western governments also started giving tax benefits to people which actually entered into these debts to begin with. There were all sorts of incentives in order to increase the amount of money siphoned into the construction business to prop up GDP numbers while the jobs and real productive GDP vanished into China.

    Back then a toaster also lasted a lot longer and it was made so it could be fixed rather than disposed of. The total cost of ownership was probably the same.

    As long as the oil price is tied to the dollar it does not matter. If you want to tie oil price to some other currency you can get a cozy grave next to Saddam and Gaddafi.

    It depends on latitude. Like you said the seasons are swapped in the southern hemisphere and near the equator they don't have 4 seasons. Near the poles there aren't 4 seasons either only two.

    Yeah. It only works in the short term. In the long term what can be done is the same thing they do in Singapore. They have a limited number of license plates for driving all week and those are auctioned. Weekend only license plates have no such restrictions.

    They dump the auction profits into the public transportation system.

    There are a lot of barriers to a cellphone business. For one you need permission to use the radio waves to operate. Then you need to negotiate peering agreements since most of the people your first customers want to call are not on your network. You also need to get permission to put the towers up.

    They just print more dollars until the amount of dollars Russia is holding becomes irrelevant. Similar to stock dilution.
