I don't know. Think about this. The only thing stopping people with real destructive power (nukes) from raining it down on the heads of their enemies is that fact there aren't enough people in strategic locations who think they can get away with it (alive). Except for the Jihadists who don't care. These people get out into space and suddenly the real estate is much bigger. You could potentially wipe out 2 billion Chinese from outside orbit and they'd have little chance of hitting you back. You don't think certain kinds of people would take that opportunity?
I did Elementary and High School in the Caribbean where they use the British system
5 years in Primary. 5 years in Secondary. Graduate at 16, plus two optional years if you want to go on to Uni. (Its basically the same system in Harry Potter)
Our system had many of the same problems as the American system. Grades were basically ignored, so you'd get promoted no matter what, so to offset this they make you take a huge exam in your last year in Primary School (to determine which High School you get to go to) and Secondary (supposedly to determine which subjects you were profecient in). I and most of my friends basically spent five years in High School, slacking off, cutting class and smoking weed and then 3 weeks trying to cram or scam 5 years of knowledge for the big test.
Add to that Corporal punishment. getting beaten 3-5 times a week for 11 years doesn't do much. You pretty much get used to the pain quickly and it stops being a deterent. I don't think I learned all that much in school, but there are schools where kids learn so what different about them?
I bet some overeager clerk decided to slip a few copies to their friends and they grabbed a few too many. I bet one or two are disappearing from stores all over the place.
The bigger stores probably have atleast a hundred copies. If you take just one who'd notice?
Rappel down the side of the building, smash the window, flashbang the room. Whack the 15 year old who stole your laptop in thw chest with a CS grenade.
I was going to suggest you replace the Church of the Subgenius link with a Church of Scientolgy link, but they'd probably have a lawsuit on the way to your door before you could lift your cursor off the Submit button.
You profit from downloading something because you don't have to buy it.
But maybe I like it and go out and buy it. Everyone wins. Your assumption is that being unable to download it I would have been forced to buy it. Completely untrue. Having no way to access it before spending money, I would simply not have purchased it anyway. So who profits then.
But you can't see it from my perspective and I can't see it from yours so we have this discussion ad nauseum. It doesn't really matter anyway. The market is self-correcting.
2) You can violate the GPL without profiting, ie. by using GPL'd code in your free-as-in-beer application and not releasing the source.
You got me there, except I can't figure out why someone would do that unless they intended to profit from it in some way. (eg. Software is free but only usable with a specific product). But you're right it is possible.
It's mind boggling to me that things like this don't put big, green, opaque dollar signs in the eyes of studio execs everywhere.
Actually I'm becoming less suprised every single time. TV execs are the least imaginative people in the world. These are people's who job it is to homogenize everything that's put in front of them to make it palatable and sellable to the most people possible.
Has anyone else realized that the new trend in TV seems to be crime dramas with female leads who are "profilers" of some kind. I mean airing right now or premiering soon we have.
1. The Inside
2. The Closer
3. Medium
4. Wanted
5. Bones
These are all essentially the same show. Not to mention they all have "punchy" one word titles.
There's a number of distinction between the two, one being that you can pretty much only violate the GPL for profit. Downloading Global Frequency doesn't make me any money.
So don't try to oversimplify the discussion. Leave that shit to 24 hr news channels.

Who do they intend to take legal action against? The Bittorent server owners? The BT sites? The downloaders?
Its pretty amazing how knee jerk and shortsighted execs can be.
bullshit. I've been to slaughterhouses. My grandfather raised pigs. So unless things have changed drastically in the past 15 years slaughterhoues use everything. Even the stuff they shouldn't...
Yeah it was Fight Club, but I'm pretty sure Palniuk (or Tyler Durden) got the idea from American Shoalin which wins the no. 2 spot for goofiest movie with Shoalin in the Title.
Yeah, I had a cop go all NYPD Blue on me for taking pitcures of the Oakland Bay Bridge at night.
Guy parks his cruiser like 50 feet away sneaks up on me (I see him coming, he thinks he fucking Sam Fisher or something all crouched down and running from shrub to shrub. Then he gets to me whips on his gun in one hand. (it was pointed down atleast) his flashlight right in my eyes.
He's all like what are doing here. What are taking pictures off!"
"dude its for night photography for a class I'm taking. Could you turn the camera off and stop ruining my film."
What did he think I was doing recon for Al Qaida at 2 am with 30 year old 35MM camera? I seem to meet all the moronic Cops...
Back 96 when I would use one free trial cancel it just before it was up and start another I had this down to an art.I could get a cencellation put through in about ten minutes.
I had free internet service for about 8 months until they caught up to me and threatened to sue. We settled on a lifetime ban.

On this side, the most you could hope for is they let you keep your pants when they ship you off to Gitmo...
Oh, if MST3K is ever revived they'll have plenty of material to work with.
Although Mansquito was awesome in its sheer stupity.

China: Nah, The governers would be pissed if I shut down their side business...

Atleast it should work better than the Earthquake pills and Ballmer sized catapult he used before.

Sounds like buying a cow because you want steaks and tossing everything else away. ...
So why bother to buy an AV company part of whose business is Unix systems?
Less is more, man.
No. 1 spot incidently, goes to Shoalin Dolemite
These Chinese keep claiming to be communists but I just don't see it.

Looks like I'll outlive them.
HaHa!
I took an intro Photo class last year. We all used Ilford papaer. It was a hell of a lot cheaper...
well? does it?
