When USPO mail comes through, the spammer had to pay the money to get it to me. I didn't get charged for them to send it to me.
Whereas with email, I pay for my Internet service, they are using my bandwidth to send me stuff I didn't want. In effect, I am paying for the spam. They are therefore trespassing on my property. No where in my service agreement with my ISP does it say I have to let people spam me.
I am an aircraft electrician, and I guarantee that they break quite often, you just don't hear about it. The thing is, most of the complex systems have been thoroughly designed to elliminate most faults, and in case there is a fault, there is a backup system or plan in place to take over the failed system.
We also are constantly doing upgrades on them. They are not complete when they get out of the factory, we are constantly upgrading the systems, or performing modifications to an existing system because a fault was found after it came into service. Some problems will never happen till the aircraft is in use.
The same applies to software. There are constant upgrades and fixes. Only when the software gets out of the labs and into service will some problems be found. Even the software on the aircraft have hiccups and have to be reloaded.
Trust me, your illusion that aircraft are better than software is just that. Sure, since peoples lives are at risk, more time is taken to create an aircraft, but still will have its problems. I haven't seen one aircraft that didn't have a modification or a fix done on it that is older than 1 year. Even with all that, if Windows crashes, who cares, no one dies. If they do, then who ever put it in place needs to be sacraficed too.
The service still works. What they did is turned off a "FEATURE" that allows you to change your password. They may implement new code on that feature to make it more secure than in the past, then they may choose to turn that "FEATURE" back on. It is NOT required for the service to be used, so there for it was a FIX. They plugged the hole. Simple. Sure, they took away a feature to do this, but it was still fixed. Now they may redeploy this feature later, but then it will be an upgrade to the service.
To answer your question, if they stopped everyone from logging on, then the service would be UNUSEABLE, then it would NOT be a fix.
I guess I am that kind of moron! I spent $1200 on 32" Sony Vega (some call it a Wega) TV 3 years ago. At the time, it was damn good. I just wish I could have gotten the 36" at the time. By the way, I would rather of paid that much for a tube based tv instead of that much for a much larger projection based tv. The quality is so much better.
Yes I do pay taxes. Taxes don't drive the post office completely though. They get their money from people sending mail and packages. Sure, they get supplemented from the government, but it isn't even close to the amounts that the other revenue aspects bring in. Plus, the post office is a federal company. When I pay taxes, I expect some of it to go to them.
I use the post office, and I pay to use it. Spammers don't pay my ISP one cent to use it.
People that send snail mail have to pay to send it, period. They pay to get that mail in my box. That is fine by me. I don't pay to have that box. I consider it a nicety, nothing more. If a company wants to spend a shit load of money to send out snail mail, at least they burden the cost of doing so.
So yes, I consider it a correct argument, along with your points at the end of your post.
I understand what you are saying, but your missing one important point. That point is the fact that you know that in order to get the lower cost of your cable tv, or newspaper, that you will see adds. If you didn't see those adds, you would pay a lot more because you would have to pay for the cost that is sucked up by the advertising.
With Internet access, my ISP isn't being supplemented by these spammers in any way, so them spamming me doesn't bring down the rate I pay the ISP. So the comparison is not valid.
I am sorry, but I have to pay for Internet service. Since I pay for it, I should be able to control what is transmitted on that service.
If they want to send me spam, they should have to pay me for using some of my bandwidth. Plain and simple.
Before anyone starts to compare it to the regular postal mail, it isn't the same. I don't pay anyone to have a mailbox. I don't pay the mail man to deliever my mail. But those damn credit offer companies DO have to pay to send over postal mail. They pay the people that deliver it. They pay for the paper and envelopes, etc...

I have to hand it to M$ to come up with yet another cute two letter abbreviation that doesn't pertain to anything!
NT - Here
2K - Don't need a link for this...think about it.
VB - Visual Basic
XP - Experience
The others, I don't know, you may be correct on.
No I wouldn't, but that is why I said I do it. I copy my cd's and put the copied ones in the car.

Neo means new, but also the letters make up the word 'one'. Something to ponder. These movies kick ass.
Inspiration sometimes comes from very odd places. Don't knock anothers desire to learn.
I do it. It is funny how people can't see that sometimes there is a legit reason for doing things.

I just made the same argument. Didn't get a chance to see yours as well. I agree with you 100%.
