I like the idea of users coming up with quests for other people. Leads to some great variety... but it can lead to some obvious problems. Maybe what the MMORPG world needs is a good "Karma System"
Joe Consumer wants to spend his cash on a console that's going to be around for a few years. If it's likely that the current machine is going to be replaced by a new model at the end of the year, it might be best to wait for that one.
I think that Sony took care of this problem with the addition of Backward Compatibility in PS2, I sure hope that Nintendo is smart enough to follow suit if they are planning on releasing a new console so soon after GameCube's slow start!
There is one problem with scripted quests in MMOG's, repetition. Nobody wants to do the same quest over and over again. Thats why most people prefer the wide open non-scripted MMOG's. BUT what if a developer took the time to keep releasing new quests. Sure killing Diablo for the 10th time is boring, but what if Blizz put out a new act every week? and what if there was an alternate act1 so people didn't have to play through the same act if they created a new character.
All that said, the main problem would be bugs, with all the the new content bugs could be quite troublesome. But I personaly would shell over the cash to have new scripted content released on a regular basis.
when I was shoping you could get a GCN with Mario Sunshine and mem card for $175, an Xbox with 1 controller and game for about $200 or a PS2 with no games for around $215. The market does change, but this is how it was when I purchased my console. As far as graphics go, if you think PS2 looks anywhere near as good as Gamecube and XBox you are smoking crack. PS2 has great games but the system is old technology.
The games are why I really wanted to buy a PS2... but I couldn't justify spending $200 on a system with graphics that look worse than my PC graphics have looked in the past 4 years.
I agree with this too... I really wanted to buy a PS2 when I was console shopping but the old technology (in comparison to GCN and XBOX) was a major turn-off, especially since GCN and XBOX can be aquired for much cheaper than the PS2. I think a new overpriced PS2 is NOT going to boost sales for Sony, and they really do need to push out the next gen if GCN and XBOX2 are just around the corner.
Perhaps too early is a bad thing?
PS2 definately has the edge on the current market because of its early release. But at the same time I see where you are coming from with the Dreamcast comment. Perhaps what Nintendo really needs is to come out early while being as developer friendly as possible. I'm sure that Nintendo could win a lot of friends if they were more friendly than Microsoft who is undoubtedly aggressive and unccooperative with its licensing agreements.
I have to admit the iPod design is pretty slick, but I remember a reading a story several months ago with a very convincing accusation that this guy stole the new iMac design from a European Mac enthusiest. Apparently a Mac webpage asked for people to submit designs and some guy posted pictures almost identical to the new iMac, long before the new iMac was released. Anyone know what ever happened to that story?
Do you think a contemporary version of an Adventure game will actually work with all the action/adventure hybrids that we have now? I loved the Neverhood and Grim Fandango, but is there really still a market for these games?
There is also an open source remake of Stunts called Ultimate Stunts. I've been trying to get it to work for me under gentoo but I haven't had any luck.

Zelda is a sweet game but I'd honestly recommend Metroid Prime over it. I am still amazed at how incedible Metroid Prime is.
