Transgamer is done by subscription. I can't remember the exact pricing, but I used to subscribe. I'm pretty sure it was only like $5 a month and you get to use it. Basically its to pay the licensing fees for the proprietary CD-Checking software and such.
All I have to say is that Nintendo had done a hell of a job catching up in the past year. And I'm definately looking forward to the next generation of console wars. After XBox vs GCN vs PS2, everybody seemed to look at Nintendo as a dying breed, but I think people are looking at them to be a serious contender in the next gen again.
I find it particularly intersting because about this time a year ago, Nintendo was talking about how they wanted to be first to hit the market for the next generation. Basically, at the time they felt poor sales of the GCN were related to PS2 hitting the market ahead of the GCN and having a much larger base of games to compete with.
Now the question is, did they change their opinion because of better GCN sales following the $99 price drop, or are they just falling behind in production and the shot at microsoft is just to cover a release that's running behind schedule?
Every time there is some big post about a comet hitting earth in the next 20 years, or global warming, or any other earth ending disaster it stays in the news for about 1 day. Just long enough for every other scientist in the world to say the guy that came up with it is a crank and the whole thing doesn't matter. I give this one maybe 2 days.
You bring up a good point. Is anyone else noticing how robots are coming up in the news more and more, and how the electronics for them are getting cheaper and cheaper. In fact there seems like robotics will be the next hobby the way that model rockets and airplanes were. Despite all that, it doesn't seem like anybody is actually adopting them for practical uses. I mean if somebody can make biomimetic robots for a hobby, why isn't the army using them to scout ahead during MOUT (military operations urban terrain) Missions. And why aren't firefighters using them to help analyze fires before rushing into a burning building. It seems like the cost prohibitions are getting lower and lower, and small scale storage devices are getting cheaper and cheaper as well. What exactly IS the holdup? Or am I just being utterly nieve?
I dont know enough about electrical engineering to know what kind of changes cheap 32-bit processors will bring to the market, but I'm anxious to find out!
When I first read this I was pretty excited... but to be honest I'm not so sure now. It seems like lately cartoon series' are really lacking. I mean look at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles compared to the old one... They chopped out so much of what make the Turtles so cool. I think its because they tried to adapt them more to pop culture. Hopefully they won't do the same to the Fantastic 4.
Ahh! I see... Sadly I find the Konqi interview more interesting than the one posted above. For a while I liked KDE a lot but its getting too big, and they are only talking about making it bigger. What linux needs is a window manager thats more scalable. So that 1 guy could have his desktop set up in a *box config and another guy could have his set up in a fully loaded KDE type config, and yet they both use the same toolkits and stuff. Standardization wont happen if all they do is keep bloating KDE, there are too many people that love thier efficiently little *box configs.
At the least they should make games more readily available on DVD in the states. The only game that I've even seen DVD copies of in the store was the Myst sequal Uru. Most people have DVD's on their computers now, and hardly any new games fit on one CD. Why the wait? Does it cost too much more to put them on DVD instead of CD? Or is it just that putting the game out in both formats is expensive?
U.S. has apporixmately 9.5 times as many people as Canada... so if your 1/5th statistic is purely frequency then the United States has lower gun deaths per capita then Canida
Terrible rule of thumb... our enemies are far crueler to us than we can imagine.
Don't misinterpret this as a justification for torture, I'm very much against it. I just believe if we gauge our actions by our enemies, we will do much worse things than either you or I approve of.
Your lack of knowledge about this astounds me. Why should Bush be tried? It's not as if he had any knowledge that this was happening let alone gave an order for it to happen. Go ahead put him on trial, nobody in their right mind will convict him. Please google 'Antonio Taguba's Testimony' and self-educate.
Wow... way to show one sterotypical derogatory comment is a load of crap then turn around and spout off another stereotypical derogatory comment. You think you are all high and mighty but you are just as bad as the guy that made fun of the french.
Cool concept, bad idea.
I think the biggest problem with this idea is that the transfer of data between multiple systems, makes it incredibly vulnerable to exploitation. For a game that spans multiple platforms like this to be any fun at all, it sounds as if it WOULD need to be a multiplayer game, and we all know how exploitation can ruin multiplayer games.
I can certainly understand why everybody is totally against trusted computing on personal computers, and I really truly agree. However, despite how 'scary' this 'innovation' might be, I think it does have its place in the office. Perhaps using this in the office could keep workers from participating in some anti-productive activities (like games) or more importantly prevent them from participating in illegal activities (P2P networks).
I hate the stuff too and do not like the threat is poses to OSS. But perhaps it still could have its place.
Just a thought.
I don't understand how you all could miss this classic! Super Dodge Ball is probably one of THE BEST 2-Player games of all time! Its definately up there with the likes of Super Mario Bros 3 and Zelda.
Sure the cross platform implications are great, but lets be serious now, what A+ title could be programmed to run at a playable speed in Java? Even the civ builder games like Civ3 have fairly complex 3D Terrain systems now.
If Sun wants to push towards game development, all the more power to them, but Java is not ready to make any A+ titles in its current state.
Is it just me, or does it piss you off when people call the GameCube childish?
First off, there are plenty of games out for Gamecube that are NOT childish, and that children should not be playing (BMX XXX, BloodRayne, Eternal Darkness, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil). And Secondly, a game does not need to have blood, guts, and nudity to be fun for adults to play. I'm sorry but I'd rather play Metroid Prime than any of the games listed above any day. If you think that a game is no good because it isn't violent and contains no sexual content, then YOU need to grow up.
In my opinion Nintedo is putting out the best and most innovative games on the market for the gamecube and we still have plenty to look forward to (including an awesome looking revision of mario kart).
So Doom3 isn't coming out for the Gamecube... BIG DEAL! I think it goes without question that any game that is released for both consoles and PC, I will play on my PC instead. ESPECIALLY if that game is likely to have a linux port. I'd much rather play Doom3 in 1600x1200 with all the great new features of DX9 than on my tv in low res with a graphics card that is comparible to the owned two years ago.
Finally I'm gonna go a little off topic here and tell all the XBox fanboys to get off their Halo high-horse. Face the facts, if Halo was released on the computer instead of XBox it would have been totally crushed by good FPS's like Half-Life, Quake3, and Unreal Tournamenet 2003. The game is not at all innovative unless you call bringing an FPS to the TV screen innovative. Not to mention the fact that I think I'll pass on paying a monthly fee for XBox Live! and stick to playing my FPS's for free on the internet.
Yeah its a long post, but I'm sure a lot more thought went into it than the article it comments on.

Then again, maybe I'm just getting old.

What's the big green thing in the photo?

Just go at like 3 in the morning... and pump it yourself... if the attendant really is awake, what's he gonna do? call the cops?

I disagree. With the variety of special moves and different throws you can really mix it up in that game and make it really hard to catch the ball.
I don't understand how you all could miss this classic! Super Dodge Ball is probably one of THE BEST 2-Player games of all time! Its definately up there with the likes of Super Mario Bros 3 and Zelda.
try reading whats already been posted before posting your own ignorant remarks.
I'm pretty sure those 'seatbelt straps' are just the straps he used to 'tie' the joystick to the chair.
The Street Fighter Gang had a movie, an anime movie, and several anime series. I think that qualifies them as well.
