Really- I did move a lot of business there because of the chick with big boobs. I guess that makes me shallow. Or a guy who likes boobs.

Yes- because most people base that term on the relative cost of other cars. The $500 car is considered 'affordable'.

Of course, not everyone has $500.

I don't think we are using the word 'affordable' as an absolute. Because to someone with absolutely no money will find that nothing with a cost is 'affordable'.

Okay, I'll respond to your post point by point-

The post you responded to mentioned Xbox 360 many times. The only PGR that runs on the 360 is PGR 3. Every other comment about PGR would refer to that same version- PGR 3.

    There are no hacks available.

PGR 3 has a fairly decent 'progression' system through a multitude of races and events, which get more difficult as you go on, while not a strict 'career' mode, it is more of a 'racing lifestyle' mode. You even get houses, garages, etc.

PGR 3 does not have any minis, or SUV. I believe thier tagline is 'Racing Begins at 170' because it ONLY has fast cars- no 'uninspired' vehicles present. (Unless you want to count the Corvette)

Just about your entire response to the other persons comments about PGR3 was inaccurate. You could say that he did not specificially state PGR3, but a reasonable person could easily infer the connection based on the fact that he did specify Xbox 360 more than once.

My guess is that you have never played PGR3, and you are basing your comments on your own incorrect assumptions. In which case, it was a completely standard Slashdot post.

Obviously you don't like the whole concept of Project Gotham 3. (Really, you were able to edit the car prices?)

Personally I am a HUGE fan of the sports/racing games with the idea of progression. I like the sports games that feel like they are RPGs...meaning, there is a career mode that I need to progress through.

The idea with an RPG means that I am playing a role- and my role is this golfer, tennis player, or race car driver. As I get better, I move up, maybe earn some money. Then I can buy new cars, enter into new races, etc. etc.

On the other hand, I don't really like games like Oblivion. I don't want to progress, I'm just not interested.

So my point is this- possibly instead of Project Gotham 3 being a game that wastes your time with 'uninspired' cars, (Which Ferrari was that? Or was it the Ford GT?) you just don't like that style of game. Personally, the progression is my favorite part of the game.

(And since it seems to make a difference in this conversation, my personal stats are: 38 years old, professional job, house, wife, kids, dog, cat, etc.)

  12. Re:It makes sense on HP To Cut Back On Telecommuting · · Score: 4, Interesting

I've been on two sides of the issue.

First, as a 'worker' I was allowed to telecommute occasionally. I know that for myself (reasonably well motivated) the temptations at home were too strong for me, and I ended up screwing around about 4 hours a day. Add a wife/kids to the mix, and I would not consider this time to be productive. My co-workers all reported the same thing.

Now as a manager, I run into similar problems with my employees. It took a while for one guy to figure out that Xbox Live lets me know exactly how much screwing around he is doing. (Hmm...he had Oblivion running all day, AND got 5 achievements...) Yet of course he claimed to be working all day. He is no longer eligible for telecommuting.

Now I only support telecommuting with other employees occasionally, and only if there is a very defined project with a definite deliverable at the end. For instance, "You need to have this help file completely finished tomorrow." (Knowing that it is probably a 4 hour job that would be stretched to 8 even if they were at work.)

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but it's just the reality for the people I work with. Given the opportunity, they would sit at home and play games- while making excuses why things didn't get done. They did that when I was part of the team, and they tried to do it when I became the boss.

(Truth be told, when they are AT work, they are very effective, highly productive, and a great team. They are not a bunch of clowns, they just get distracted. But being distracted at work is what lets them see problems from many angles, so it is a good trait if focused on productive issues, instead of deciding which armor to wear.)

Knights of the Old Republic and Oblivion.

Read just about any gaming site on the web- evidently these were absolutely fantastic games.

I hated both of them intensely. I couldn't belive that someone would make these steaming piles of shit and even moreso, I couldn't believe that people actually liked playing them.

Oblivion puts me to sleep. I think the graphics are crap. I think the story is crap. I haven't found a single thing I like about it.

You can cite (or infer that you have actually read) all of the scientific studies you would like, but the actual fact is- society is based on competition. People only cooperate because it increases their chances of survival/victory.

Look at something simple like sports- yes, there is cooperation. You have a team. You have fans. But none of it makes any difference if you don't have someone to compete with. And you want your team to WIN.

Countries have flags, and people have 'pride'. This pride does not stem from the ideal that 'we are a good country'. No, it stems from being the BEST at something.

"Thai food is the best food in the world."
    "Germany has the best industry."

    Etc. Etc...

Even computer operating systems have winners and losers. As I scanned your previous posts, it seemed as though most of your time was spent discussing how C/C++ are bad languages, and any operating system (or licensing scheme) other than BSD is inherently bad.

Why do you feel the need to make these comments?

Competition. And because being on the winning team feels good- no matter what team that is.

So you can pretend that life is all about cooperation- but go back and read your own posts. You specialize in telling other people they are WRONG. Because you want to compete and be better- no matter what the arena.

You've just chosen one that is a little more geeky than the rest. Not sports, not economy- but computer programming languages and operating systems.
