I was thinking something along the lines of a split second pulse. Enough to blind the eye/s of the predator. In fact, they have multiple eyes because of an on-going biological arms race. Anyways, it was just a fun exercise. In reality, I suppose you're right in that it could never work out that way.

I suppose one implementation of a bio-laser would to engineer an eye, or multiple eyes surrounding the entire organism. It would provide exceedingly good vision, but would also work in reverse. Rather take in light, they could emit a beam of light with the lens focusing it on its target. It's ok of the the lens gets damaged in the process. It was only designed to fire once, and you have multiple eyes that provide protection as the other one heals. Much like quills on a porcupine.

The fact that there's a media narrative is hardly news. The purpose is to provide ratings. Anything that will lead to scandal, corruption, or supporting national politics is the name of the game. Fox does this to support Republicans, all the others support the Democrats. I suppose this is news to those that don't already know this however. And this "taking sides" of the national media is nothing new at all. Very old hat in American history.

Ask any budding journalist as to why they want to be in this industry. Sometimes, you will hear a common theme of "To change the world for a better place". Generally that implies a motive with bias. No, their job to REPORT the news in its purest form. I'll tell ya, that can both end wars and create them. But oh no, we can't have that now can we? They should report the good, the bad, and the ugly with impartiality. BBC is the closest as it comes to doing that. Perhaps I'm giving them too much credit however.

Visually seeing all this activity puts things into perspective. I would say that I've at least cut my usage between 15% and 20% knowing what I know now because of it.

Eventually, I'm sure the metering resolution will go down from the hour, to every 15 minutes and beyond. Some residents already have access to a 15 minute resolution already. I also expect to seem some sort of iPhone/Droid app to monitor my activity as well.

FYI, I live in an older complex unit built before the 1980s. Obviously CenterPoint Energy upgraded this area to the new Smart Meters, I just don't know when exactly.

Ironically, most the wealthy are members of the CCP. Yet, they keep towing the party line to maintain perks and protection and a higher ranking of citizenry compared to non-members. PLA members get shit in comparison, which is why the bulk of them are from rural farming communities moved half-way around the country side so to remain de-tached from their fellow country men.

But what I want to know is this. Who or what selected group of individuals are pulling the strings here. I don't believe for a second that it's just political momentum of a post-communist era at hand.
