Of course that didn't stop the Mormons from getting some new texts, but then again a lot of Christians don't think Mormons are Christians.

True. Mormons, although they believe in Jesus, believe they can become Gods. This is completely against Christianity and Judaism, as it is in fact the original sin. The original sin was man going against God thinking, somewhat foolishly, that his own way was better than anything the Creator could do. Believing that one could become a god is one way of saying to God "I want to do things my own way".

Probbably more so than all the sects of Christianity.

Many Protestants would claim that Catholicism is not Christianity, for many reasons. One of these reasons is the worship of Mary, who was only a human and not God. Another is their belief in purgatory, which is not mentioned in the Bible, and takes away from the significance of Christ's redeeming sacrifice. Purgatory would suggest that the death of Christ our God was not sufficient to pay for our sins, which is completely false. This is central to the Christian belief.

Many "sects of Christianity" are close to Christianity, but fall short on one or more very important beliefs, and cannot be called Christianity.

Firstly you will get absolutely no increase in audio quality by 'upsampling' any digial media you have. CD's are recorded at 44100 samples per second, 16 bits per sample, 2 channels. 'Upsampling' to 48kHz will do nothing. The analogue signal has already been sampled at 44.1kHz when recording the CD, you cannot get it back by resampling at 48kHz.

Secondly although to be able to gain some semblance of a correct sampling at a certain frequency one must sample at double that frequency (Nyquist, as referred to previously), benefits can still arise from higher sampling rates:

Consider the case with a sinusoidal signal of 22kHz. If we sample at 44kHz, it is posible that each sample lands on a zero. We record no sound at 22kHz. If we are slightly off, we get some improvement, but insufficient amplitude to hear.

For a frequency close to 22kHz, we could end up with a very low frequency sound being detected as the samples effectively move along the wave, getting successively louder and quiter as the phase changes.

This is why if we ignore any hiss and pops from a record (you know, those old black circular things that melt if you leave them in the back of your car in the sun), a record actually sounds better than a CD. High frequency sounds are clearer and sharper than anything a CD is capable of.

Yes a CD is more convenient and doesn't have pops and hiss, but the trade off is muddy high frequency notes.

48kHz or even up tp 192kHz audio is usually used when recording instruments, and the final mix is then downsampled to 44.1kHz for CDs. Similarly the audio is recorded at 24 bits per sample, or even 48 bits, to minimise rounding errors when combining the recorded instruments. Again, the audio is downsampled to 16 bits per sample for CD use.

    Hope that clarifies matters.

It would have to be the computer. Last time I tried, the games just found their way back again. First it was just messing around with system settings, 'playing' with the computer, then it moved on to flash games off the net, and after that 10 minutes of pure hell had passed, proper games just materialised on my PC again.

You have a box with keyboard and mouse and one screen plugged into it, other ends go to both computers. Double tap scroll-lock and it switches which computer has input and output focus. They cost about AU$70, US$40?

Advantages: Smaller power bill (1 screen), 1 keyboard, 1 mouse. => do not have to actually move to reach other computer, no physical exercise required.

Extension: One computer has two screens, but only one of the screens is plugged into the switchbox, so when you double tap scroll lock, it changes the secondary display to your other computer.

In either case, the box does all the switching, not the computer, so programs don't have to stop running. Switch times are

I do not, however, recommend this setup with laptops with touchpad mice. Sometimes the laptop gets confused and locks up or the touchpad half takes over.

Actually you could just always use a second mouse for the laptop.

BTW, have you tried playing games on an LCD screen? The thin-screen I use at work (Acer AL511) has a tiny delay for pixels changing colour, noticeable when scrolling through large amounts of text. I wouldn't want to try playing an fps like that.

A number of game companies in Australia have been looking for level designers with degrees in Architecture, not necessarily computing backgrounds.

That said, I agree with the parent, and having had some experience myself, I can assure you that a level designer who understands art or architecture would be a great plus, although most companies employ texture artists seperately to level designers.

Again, familiarise yourself with as many engines as possible, not just the ones that are easy to use, since the development tools available while a game is being made are notorious for being buggy, difficult to use, and slow. Once the game is released, it gives them time to work on the development tools for mod makers and sequels etc.

If, or when, you get to interview stage, make sure you can analyse some of the current games and mods and say why some maps work and some don't. Especially those made by the company you are applying for.

That goes for all games, not just fps.
