she said they were reducing the size of the computer section big time.
I don't blame them. The computer section of a bookstore always looked like a big money sink for the store. Too many too books that are outdated almost as soon as they hit the shelves with a very small audience to purchase them.
The palm is the only device I find comfortable to read. Why? Because it doesn't shine bright, white light into my eyes. Reading on a computer screen is like looking into a floodlight that someone has taped letters over. I wish more webpages defaulted to a black background with light text. Much easier to read.
I think that may be true. I know that when I read something on a computer screen, I lose my place and my interest more quickly. When I discovered that the GREs had a reading section on the computer I was really annoyed. I know I would have had a higher score if the reading section was printed on paper.
I'm surprised to see that the Motely Fool is still around. I would have guess they up and died around the same time the stock market did. Every time I go into a bookstore, it seems like I see their investment guide in the discount bin.
I don't blame them. I love to read (plug for my book reviews) but reading on the computer stinks. It hurts my eyes, and I would never read a book in the positing that I sit at my desk. And I'm not about to lug my laptop along to read during commutes on the tube.
I've literally shown him a dozen-times how to open up windows explorer and browse through to find stuff, but he doesn't use his computer very often and by the time he wants to find something, he's forgotten again.
I know how you feel, I run through the same thing with my mother everytime I've gone home.
I've often thought that 99% of the average user's problems with, and fear of, computers would go away if they could just learn the ideas of "what is a file" and "where is it on my computer"
Well sort of. Getting a high page rank on my site does increase the number of people who find information they are looking for on my page. For example, ever since I started promoting my London journal, my pagerank increased. That allowed people looking for book reviews to more easily find mine.
Reminds me of the Monty Python funniest joke ever sketch where the English had to translate the joke into German one word by different researchers none of them would accidentally die.
Yes, I'm sure software patents made you move to London.
Stupid patent/copyright laws, the department of homeland security, total^H^H^H^H^H terrorist information awareness, patriot act, patriot act II, and cute girls with British accents made me move to London.
I'm a teacher, and any teacher worth their salt will know if the machine is wrong, because they'll know their students, and what each one deserves (without even reading the damn papers they at least know what to expect, so if the machine is off, they will know).
Looks like you have already saved quite a bit of time grading your papers by knowing the grade in advance:)
I sometimes wonder how so many people, who are products of our education system, can be so painfully inadequate when it comes to the simple act of composing a sentence.
That's because the education system was not designed to educate. It was designed to instill patriotism and respect for authority.
A study in March by the General Accounting Office found that KaZaA would be effective for someone looking for child pornography. The agency searched for 12 terms associated with child pornography, such as "incest" and "underage." It did not actually download the files it found, but it determined that 42 percent of them had titles or descriptions associated with pornographic images of children.
Didn't actually download them huh. Well, they must be porn. I'm now off to download everything on project Gutenberg and rename all the files 'porn underage kiddies sluts with barnyard animals.txt'. Won't the RIAA be disapointed when they find copies of Emma and The War of the Worlds.
They are trying to make paying for music more attractive through legal downloading services, and in the case of Universal Music Group, the world's largest record company, slashing the price of most its CD's by 30 percent
Wow. 30 whole percent. What's that leave the profit margin at? $12 on a $15 dollar CD? I'll bet most of that %30 is coming out of the artists paycheck. Whoops! They never made %30 to begin with.
All laptops are in 3D Unless theyve been run over by a steamroller
Wow, I didn't know steamrollers were able to make two-dimensional atoms.
but it's only a matter of time before we're arguing here about what looks better in 3D, Gnome or KDE
It's a sad day when you hear the words "3D display" and the first thing that comes to mind is desktops wars, not pornography.
I would not be happy ah-boot that at all.
They have tenure?
Who are you, Gollum?
No, but my eyes are precious to me.

That explains all of the RTFAs on Slashdot.

You could probably write out the books by hand faster than download them on his connection. Where's a monk when you need one?

"Equally, it is the one that will allow us, in the long term, to get back to the people who are spamming and tap them on the shoulder."
Give them the boot!
while Ford and Sears were praised for voluntarily signing on with stringent data-protection laws in Europe and California.
How can you voluntarily sign on to a law? Does that imply I can opt out of the laws I don't like?
Well sort of. Getting a high page rank on my site does increase the number of people who find information they are looking for on my page. For example, ever since I started promoting my London journal, my pagerank increased. That allowed people looking for book reviews to more easily find mine.
Wow.
:(
I can't believe I wrote that. Sorry everyone.

It's reasons like this that I moved to London.
People is Europe know and care about issuses like patent law and copyrights. No one in the States (outside of slashdotters) has a clue.

"P2p stands for piracy to pornography," quipped Mr. Lack.
How about Power to the People.
or
Profits to the Profitable
You are just the middlemen RIAA. The more middlemen we get rid of the better.
