"As a guy in the record industry and as a parent, I am shocked that these services are being used to lure children to stuff that is really ugly," said Andrew Lack, the chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment.
Has this guy even seen Kazaa? Doesn't he know you have to type in what you are looking for?
I have read the book many times. It would not be difficult for a system like this to be automated... for example with the horrendous facial recognition software we have been reading about in the past few days.
If you think that most of the 2x10^6 people in prison are there because they are 'dangerous criminals' you are very, very wrong. More than half are there for drug offences.
His question is of general interest to many people. One of the reasons I post to slashdot is to drive traffic to my site and to (hopefully) get feedback on my writing. The answer to his question applies to me (and others like me) as well.
That being said... I too am happy to see a company support Linux. It's just that I wouldn't be surprised if they attacked it later on if it could raise their profits somehow.
Whoops. Looks like in my intoxicated ranting last night I got the price wrong. That should be 1.2pounds/hr not min. But it's still a lot considering that the Internet cafes offer 2 hours for 1 pound on a cable line.
The thing is, I can't even get a dial tone through my phone line without connecting to their service first. If I want to use the phone card that my parents bought me to call them in the US, it has to go through keytalk's network first. Which means 25p/min in addition to the phone card costs because it is a competing service. That can't be legal.

Anyone in London remember this creepy campaign
More like 100k years.
The site -- http://privacy.cs.cmu.edu/dataprivacy/projects/cam watch -- notes that a few of the "jail cams" had been disabled due to lawsuits.
We don't want to let you see what happens in a jail. We do want to keep an eye on you so we can more easily put you in one.
sounds like a chapter out of "Spy vs. Spy"
Sounds more like 1984 to me.
Personized News? Feels more like choose your own adventure.
That should give you an idea of the latest novella from Robert Stone
It gives me no idea whatsoever.
But, in this case, I'd have to think this is at best, altruism on Microsoft's part
Companies are, by definition, self-serving. Altruism has no place here.
I wonder if Apple will sell them computers : )

The fastest way to look like someone important: Carry a clipboard.
Electronic Voting: Your Worst Nightmares are True
I don't see how electronic voting makes that nightmare about my grandmother cutting off my penis come true.
That and "Where the flying cars? I was promised flying cars!"
I loved that ad too. It felt like Captain Sisko was threatening me, that it was somehow my fault that I hadn't invented his flying car yet. : )
Big Blue was the bad guy. It feels kind of creepy to be cheering IBM on... Go IBM!!!!
Companies are by definition self serving. They are always the bad guys.

He's nine years old, bright-eyed and hungry to learn. Meet Linux, or a human embodiment of the computer operating system
I'm going to say it was a wise choice not to use Linus in the commercial.
What about their 'Peace, love, Linux' hippy campaign they ran a while back.
Already tried. No luck : (

Actually no. I have citizenship with both Ireland and the US.

Which reminds me... for some reason, the preview button on slashdot dosen't work with their service either. Looks like I swaped a / for a \.
use the pound sign... it's on the second from top row of your keyboard...
