I use an 80GBx4 raid 10 array and while your idea is certainly interesting, I know for a fact it takes hours to rebuild. In addition, this really doesn't address the more traditional idea of an incremental or journaling backup. There just don't seem to be any easy/affordable methods of true backup for most users. Sure a snapshot is great when you have nothing else but there should be a better way.
keen to prevent lawsuits? Is there any warning label on the iPod not to use it while driving? If not, in this day and legal age they are leaving themself open to some very large suits.
its the detectors. The size and complexity are amazing and if you have a chance to do a tour of RHIC, FNAL or any of the many others make sure you do. I do have photos but I'm not silly enough to post a link to them here;)
why must firefox always break extensions? I have yet to use one which did not work with a new version of firefox yet have many times had to manually alter files so that a new release of firefox would work with them (while waiting for the extension writer to make any changes he deems necessary beyond updating the version compatability).
Why can't firefox have a 'try it one time' feature similar to windows and screen resolutions? Let people use their extensions and if they crap out they can then be disabled.
to be willing to pay us$915 for something like that. Let me shed tears for the poor exec who has to carry a cell and seperate PDA at a fraction of the cost. And if your company isn't buying then you really do need help with your spending priorities. No moaning about the cost of this or that when you put one your credit card.
No, the purpose of the estate tax is to get revenue for the government. Are you next going to argue that the purpose of federal and state income tax are to promote charitable giving because donations are also exempt? And yes he is skirting the tax by doing this and frankly he is a classic limo liberal trying his best to force his view on everyone else while he goes off and does something else. So how much is the government losing by his action? $10B? $15B?
Buffet:$30 billion will be generated from estate taxes, which will go to help pay for the war in Iraq and other things. If you take away the estate tax, that money will have to come from somewhere else. If not from estate taxes then you inherently get it from poorer citizens.
Buffet:We raise, what, $30 billion from the estate tax. And, you know, I would like to hear the congressman say where they are going to get the $30 billion from if they don't get it from the estate tax. It's nice to say, you know, wipe out this tax, but we're running a huge deficit, so who does the $30 billion come from?
he will be cutting the feds and state a check for the lost estate tax right? After all he is totally opposed to repealing the death tax... but apparently not opposed to finding ways around it.
to know that Alito voted last? "Cast the deciding vote". What a bogus notion. This isn't about who wants what on their pizza. Whats next? Tell Ginsburg and Scalia to leave cause they always vote opposite so nothing to see hear, move along?
You did reply in regards another poster's comments on backing up 750GB, no? In that case your reply was off topic as clearly there are backup solutions for those like you who only need to secure a few 100MB or a couple GB.
As to your 20hr backup, how many tapes, and will you be there to change them?
Your original post advocated RAID for all but the most critical, I simply pointed out the fact that RAID is not a 'backup' at all and does not protect from user error or programs gone awry. That you have (so far) managed to avoid such a situation is likely as much to do with luck as aptitude. Will your deleted/damaged file be part of your once a month or so extra hard drive + some tapes backup? Maybe..maybe not.
right.. so by the time you finish backing up your 750gb drive with those its past your retention time. Sounds practical. The bottom line is there are really no practical ways to backup at reasonable cost and speed. RAID is great for a hardware failure, not so great for accidental deletions or files which are corrupted by software.
seems to me a joke as well. First, if they had succeeded (where as noted every major power has failed todate) to get AVLIS to produce meaningful amounts of enriched uranium, every government would be clamoring to have this kept under lock and key for national secrity concerns. There is no way ANZUS lets this walk out the door to GE for domestic power use. Second, if indeed it were such a breakthrough, it would not take an estimated 20 years to handle 1/3 of the enrichment needs. Sounds like they've made an incremental advance but that its still a long way from being a viable replacement to centrifuges.
The key issue surrounding her case is her opposition to a new, encrypted cell-phone technology that is virtually impossible to tap. Since 80 percent of U.S. intelligence is gathered via intercepted communication, the new technology could be devastating to national security. Is Beechum being framed, and if so, by whom and why? Whitcomb, a former FBI agent and author of the nonfiction best-seller Cold Zero: Inside the FBI Hostage Rescue Team (2001), uses his insider knowledge of the bureau and the Beltway to create a compelling context--character assassination taken to the next level--for a political thriller.
Without giving too much away, suffice it to say all is not as it seems.

I should have been more specific - full spectrum bulbs (ie, equivalent of the GE Reveals or similar '$candinavian' models)
at least one.. I always try to find the GE Reveal bulbs.. the cfls are still like $25.
Why dont you tell that to the Japanese guy that died on a Philippine Air 747 after Yousef left
his little toy under the wrong seat?
what ever happened to that dude? He used to do like a weekly or monthly email update on the vgers and pioneers.
wireless mouse/kb sucks. Always recharging batteries and keyboard sensor overwhelms mouse which makes multiple selections a pita.
no, but it can raise a white flag :)
I only know of one http://www.angelfire.com/biz/rhaminisys/algol60.ht ml
9 /doc/install.html
there is an interpreter here:

Jovial which is a variant used by the military in embedded systems will cost you
many $$$.
There also appears to be an algol compiler on the twenex.org "machine" but I've
not used it yet.
of finding a good Algol compiler these days one is forced to use FORTRAN 77 for speed.

it takes to get that info.
