This is one of the dumbest posts I've ever read here (and that's saying something). Seriously - what's the point of eliminating caps lock if you're just going to emulate it through another key stroke? Its presence isn't hurting you. If you don't like it, remap it and shut up.
You can't really blame the readers I don't think, not even the ones who are submitting the dupes; the editors are the ones who post the stories, so there's really no reason at all why they have to post the same story time after time after time. On Digg, dupes are usually buried quickly; however on Slashdot, CmdrTaco is such a Nazi over control that we can't remove dupes, so they stick.
The first step towards ridding Slashdot of dupes is Taco getting off his lazy ass and implementing a story moderation feature, so entire stories can be moderated "redundant," which I guess is the closest thing the current moderation system has for "dupe."
...did anyone catch the story a couple of minutes ago on the front page about OpenOffice.org's security issues? This was posted Sunday, duped yesterday by Digg, and Zonk duped it again a few minutes ago, but it disappeared. Is this the first time that a story has been yanked because of a dupe?
WoW isn't for Linux, so why are we discussing it? I thought Slashdot was about Linux and open source.
Don't give me that "but it should run in Wine" bullshit either. It's not supported, and performance is crap compared to running natively in Windows. Anyone who plays WoW on Linux is a hypocrite anyway.
The comment isn't emotional at all; it's logical. Choosing not a use a perfectly viable distribution of Linux because you can't surf the web during its installation (but can afterward) is stupid. You are stupid for thinking it's not stupid. Needing access to the web during an install (well, during an install of anything by stage 1 Gentoo) shows that you're either addicted to the Internet or are completely without patience. This all sounds perfectly logical to me.
In the future try not to whip out the "emotionally driven" and "less informed" comments right away. It just makes you look like a crazy Linux zealt. I made a funny; "crazy Linux zealot" is a lot like saying "wet water" or "hot heat."
Choosing a distribution based on it allowing you to surf the web while it's installing from a WPA-protected wireless network is pretty stupid. The install will take an hour tops (unless it's pure Gentoo and you have to compile everything, in which case it'll take days). Just have the patience to wait for the install to finish. Then you can fuck around with WPA all you want and surf to your heart's content.
How this idiotic comment isn't moderated at -1 is something I'll never be able to comprehend. The article is about patching Windows; if you don't have Windows, you can't patch it.
If you were trying to be funny, I apologize; but seriously, if that was supposed to be funny, you don't get out enough. Try coming out of the basement occasionally; during the summer, these ogranisms called "girls" walk around in these things called "bikinis" on the "beach," and the sight of "flesh" will give you a "boner." I know, I know... it sounds incredibly foreign, but give it a shot. You might like it!
You're an idiot. You are not locked into iTunes unless you purchase music from the store. If you rip your CDs to mp3, iTunes is just an application to load files onto the player. You can download Winamp and use that if you prefer, and I bet there are a few other utilities as well.
Also, there's no way you know a girl. Post tits or GTFO.
The discussion system sucks. It covers up like half of the fucking screen so you can't see anything. I suggest you use some time to completely rewrite it. That is all.
Xen requires access to the source code of the operating system to work. Since Windows doesn't allow you to see its source code, nobody will bother trying to get Windows to run underneath Xen; and since most people want to run Windows servers, Xen won't really catch on. So what's the point?
How do you lose the usage of the PSP for playing video files? Last time I checked, you can play video files on firmware v2.x as well.
How do you know you won't lose your ability to play Ridge Racer? Because there's no benefit to Sony in doing that to you; you can take off your tin foil hat now.
Oh, one last thing; a misspelled represent (done intentionally) is infinitely better than "CyberLord Seven." Why don't you just make your handle something like "o0_GaMeRfAg_0o" instead? It more accurately conveys what you are.
With a name like CyberLord Seven, I guess we can't really expect you to be all that intelligent, can we?
A game not running on PSP v1.5 that does run on PSP v2.8 is not a case of backwards compatibility; backwards compatibility means a specific generation of hardware (call it A) running software for a previous generation (call it A - 1). There is no previous generation of PSP, so you fail.
The game WILL run on your PSP; you just need to update its firmware first. The firmware is a free download, so they're not really anything bad by you.
If you don't like the way Sony is treating PSP owners, sell your PSP. I sold mine and got a DS, and couldn't be any happier. Are there really any releases for PSP that are good anyway? They're usually just ports of mediocre PS2 games.
You haven't had to do a thing since because they called another techie and had them install Windows XP like everyone else is using. After they saw your idea of an "operating system," they no longer think you're sane. I mean, c'mon... you can't expect me to want to type bullshit like "depmod -a YO_MAMA" and unload and reload modules just so I can be "free," and I have a fucking degree in computer science.
We've all gone through our little "LOL LINUX IS TEH BEST LOL" phase, but sooner or later, we all have to go out into the real world, and that means using an actual operating system, not a toy like Linux. Don't worry - I'm sure you'll get through this phase soon enough. We're all pulling for you.
Never before have I seen a Slashdot user with such an appropriate username.
You, my friend, are an embodiment of the reason why free software like Linux will never replace "proprietary" software like Windows and Mac OS X. No one likes a zealot. Try to moderate a little and more people will take you seriously.
If you come to the United States in your many travels (and I know you wouldn't because they're such an evil empire who have no Ethics), please let me know! I would like to kick your burrito-eating ass once and for all.
What's on your Google Calendar, anyway? I didn't know you would need a calendar/TODO list kind of app when you live in your mom's basement. Please provide a reply ASAP.
I'm about to open some fuckin' windows.
What's this Fedora Project all about? Is it good or is it whack?

I'm going to make a game called "Kill the Linux Faggots," starring you and GNUALMAFUERTE.

Comments that are stupid. Things that don't really matter.
If people like you were in charge of innovation, we'd all be running Commodore 64s with hacked CP/M.
Just another thought... if Malda's wife were using it, would it be called 80-MOO-.11?
Now you can download fattie porn pictures of Malda's bitch WIRELESSLY!
...call someone who cares.

No, sorry. Some of us have better things to do than sit around and wait for our OS to compile.
