It was a limited time offer. After the first year I may have to drop to a slower speed, which will suck big time. I'm hoping prices drop before then because I am far too spoiled to tolerate slower speeds.
BTW, Sonic gives you a static IP and allows servers, so even if you don't get a big bump in speed, it's worth the switch, especially if you handle your own email like I do.
Oh, anyone who signs up for sonic, please tell them I refered you! I get a month of free service if you do!
Back in February I switched my DSL service from SBC to Sonic.net. SBC was charging way too much for a static connection ($65/month) that was too slow (128k upload cap) while at the same time dramatically dropping the cost of the dynamic service and increasing the bandwidth.
Sonic had a special. Up to 6meg download and 600k upload for $45/month. I signed up immediately. I'm getting about 5Meg/500k and the service is great. During the signup process they asked what OS I was using. Gritting my teeth I said "Linux". Instead of the usual "we don't support that", the guy said, "cool, which distro?".
When I saw some funny stuff (IIS targeting viral infection) from sonic netspace in my apache log I emailed sonic's abuse department. The next morning I had this reply, "We tried to call the customer but were unable to contact him, so we disconnected his service until he resolves this problem." Yep, they actually disconnected a customer because his system was infected with a virus that was attempting to infect other systems.
The only problem I have remaining is with SBC. They still insist I have DSL service with them and keep billing me. I even received a nasty payment demand from them on the same day their marketing department called to sell me DSL service. I've contacted the CPUC to get this resolved since SBC refuses to fix the problem.
What kind of false positive rate do you get with spell checking?
The high rate of bad spellings for nonspam on my server is most like because of:
1. Technical mail lists with lots of "non-words". 2. The occassional Hungarian email.
The former could be fixed by skipping the spell check for anything coming from the list servers. I purposely left those in the spell check step to see what would happen.
The second is trickier. There is no sure fire way of knowing the language of an email. My wife gets Hungarian emails from the U.S. and English emails from Hungary, so deciding by country of origin (when that even works) will fail half the time.
I may do another spell check test after I refine the perl script. Improvements to the code would be welcome.
Pipe the subject and body to a shell script that returns the number of spelling errors (via aspell etc.).
That isn't going to work. I did a study of spelling errors in spam and legitimate email People's spelling in email messages is so bad, plus with technical jargon and/or programming terms not in the dictionary, the error rate in non-spam vs spam is not different enough to make spell checking a viable antispamming tool.
Sorry, it was many years ago that I ran across that particular law. I don't even remember where I read it (so I could be completely wrong, as a matter of fact).
Here in the U.S., the limit is $1. Most likely this limit is to prevent someone from paying a large debt in the smallest coin possible just for the annoyance factor. My guess is prior to the enactment of this law someone paid a $10,000 tax debt in pennies and the government had to accept it.
Ok, that probably didn't happen, but I can dream, can't I?
The one motherfucker the Alliance didn't manage to kill, maim, or torture.
You truly are an ass-hat. A few thugs get embarrassed while in US custody and the moonbat crowd (you included) and news can't shut up about it. It's been how long? Three weeks? They still won't shut up about the torture. Meanwhile, an American gets brutally murdered by similar thugs by having his hug slowly cut off with a dull knife and the moonbats and news have already forgot about it.
Here's a little bit of info for your pea-brain to consider. Being forced to wear underwear on your head is not torture. Having your head slowly removed is torture.
Now go run along and do something you are good at, like drooling on yourself.
Yeah, they probably tried to keep some when told to destroy all. That's not really the issue
Excuse? It is the damn issue. Iraq was under a UN mandate to not have any WMDs. Bitching an moaning that we attacked under false pretense because there were no WMDs, then when WMDs are found saying it isn't an issue is pure B.S.
The possibility of WMDs was only one small point that Bush stated when he pitched his justification to the UN for attacking. Every single other point is proven fact. The WMD point was questionable, but is now also proven fact.
Actually, I'll concede this point. WMDs were never an issue. Saddam needed to be taken out anyway.
XP=$300.00 PLus a support agreement price... Linux= $0.00 plus a support agreement price..
I paid about $80 for SuSE Linux Pro 9.0. It came with basic support. The WinXP Pro the office bought cost $150 (or so), but came with zero support that I could find.
If 20 servers couldn't handle the load then either they were running MS Exchange or their system administrators are idiots - but I repeat myself.
Assuming 20 reasonably modern computers (not pentium 100Mhz systems), there should have been absolutely no problem handing a huge load with virus and spam scanning on top of it.
The 41 was THE calculator in its day. Nothing could come close to its power. The 41 was also one of the few calculators you could truly hack, both the software and the hardware.
WTF? When can anything be done regardless of the Constutition? I'll tell you: legally, NOT EVER. The Constitution trumps anything Congress might try to do. The Constitution is the guidelines by which Congress is able to pass laws. To quote the Supreme Court (sorry, I don't have the exact citation): "Anything repugnant to the Constitution is null and void."
You're missing the entire point. As far as Grandma is concerned, it IS a Linux problem.
Stop thinking of Linux as a kernel (even though that is the correct thing), you must consider Linux as the entire package of kernel, applications, utilities, and X. That's how the average person is going to look at it, and that's how we must look at it if Linux is going to make any decent headway into the non-geek realm.
I'm not suggesting we bind everything together into a insecure windows look-alike. I'm saying we must get everything working together happily as is the case in Windows.

The same way I can get 5meg/500k DSL from Sonic for $45/month while SBC charges $65/month for 1.3meg/128k. SBC was offering much better bandwidth for a nice low price - except when you wanted a static IP, then they reamed you.
In general, another person states everything so much better than I do:
We stopped pretending we would ratify Kyoto. We only spent $15 billion on AIDS in Africa. We did not take dictation from Paris. If we had done these things, it would minimize the world's anger.
Is the world angry at Russia, which spends nothing on AIDS and rebuffed Kyoto? Is the world angry at China, which got a pass on Kyoto and spends nothing on AIDS for other countries?
Is the world angry at North Korea for killings its people? Angry at Iran for smothering that vibrant nation with corrupt and thuggish mullocracy? Angry at Syria for occupying Lebanon? Angry at Saudi Arabia for its denial of women's rights? Angry at Russia for corrupt elections? Is the world angry at China for threatening Taiwan, or angry at France for joining the Chinese in joint military exercises that threatened the island on the eve of an election? Is the world angry at Zimbabwe for stealing land and starving people? Is the world angry at Pakistan for selling nuclear secrets? Is the world angry at Libya for having an NBC program?
Is the world angry at the thugs of Fallujah?
Is the world angry at anyone besides America and Israel?

Of all the countries in the middle east, which one has actually used Sarin to kill large numbers of people (entire villages ceased to exist)?
Answer: Iraq
What country was under a UN mandate to destroy all stockpiles of Sarin?
Answer: Iraq
What country did not provide adequate evidence of the destruction of said stockpiles?
Answer: Iraq
Where did they find the sarin filled shell?
Answer: Iraq
Where did the sarin filled shell come from?
Answer: (According to you) Somewhere else.
What a brilliant deduction on your part.
I wouldn't call enough Sarin to kill 50,000 people a trace amount.
Let's look at what was found: Sarin, Anthrax spores, equipment used to purify plutonium, etc.
Yep, no WMD here.
I'm well aware of the load requirements of an MTA and of SpamAssassin and I stand by my original statement.

At one time, yes. I don't know if they still use one, though.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it.
