The lameness filter is almost as dumb as windows button names. Sometimes I wonder if the lameness actually filters posts that aren't lame enough. Like they need more dumbness in them. He was unable to continue with his job carry on proceed go on keep on persist, press on persevere. Remain in existence or operation : discussions continued throughout the year. (I always wondered how spammers came up with that idea. Now I know- sorry guys)
DMOZ has been slow and incomplete for ages. It's also an example of hierarchies gone bad. I never really know where I should submit my site (edified.org). Shouldn't/California/Camping/RV and/Camping/RV/California be the same?
Errr
And, aside from the region locking, what "good" (from the MPAA's perspective) does retaining the CSS do?
Exactly. The only benefit is that it has some legal merit (IANAL) and the only reason it might keep the MPAA happy is that the css keys are kept secret by Drive In (in the [crackable] same way that the keys are secret on the DVD so that if someone were to upload the DVD image downloaders would still not have the key.
So yeah. DRM is stupid, but capitalism works more than one way,
Hey- quit dumping iron in the ocean! It's already been done (Lookup Mesoscale Iron Enrichment- there's a pretty dang popular article in science). The idea is that only one nutrient will limit growth (in this case of phytoplankton) and iron happens to be the limiting factor. So we dump a bunch of iron and get phytoplankton blooms which pull down CO2 and can be used as biofuel, simple right? Not so fast. There are LOTS of problems with this idea, not the least of which is depletion of other micronutrients in the environment (read dead ocean). I'm sure you can think of several more right now without even reading the literature (hey this is/. right?).
The side effects are huge- and there's not real evidence that any substantial carbon sequestering (into ocean sediments) will really happen. Thanks for your prepatent post though. It's actually appropriate because there's people out there trying to get funding to do this kind of thing right now, presumably as a commercial endeavor to profit from a panic response to "Global Climate Change". Don't panic.
We use our "terminals" for a lot. We're not talking about green screen airline reservations. Plus they're great to have as general purpose machines- we run a copy or our website, we run our timeclock on them and on a slow day you might catch someone playing games on their lunch. We expect to use them for about 6 years during which they will have paid for themselves several times over. Who knows they might last much longer if our computing demands don't rise.
That being said I'm sure our software is bloated and inefficient (not to mention it's windows only)- but I'm not willing to write something better so I'm not complaining.
I just bought six Windows Free computers and promptly infected them with Windows XP. The cost? $139 Per Machine. That's an OEM windows license which, apparently means it's non-transferable. $139 for last decade's OS.
Ironically the six computer I bought were Mac Minis. They were nearly exactly what we were looking for. Dual Core, Slow Clock (runs cool), really small form factor, gigabit ethernet, USB+DVI. We use them as reservation terminals for our Northern California Campground.
I'm kind of curious 'cause I did a lot of shopping around- is there a similarly spec'd cheaper core duo (need not be core 2 duo) compy out there? We were looking for Core Duo, Min 512MB Ram, only need like 20GB of HD, don't need a CD drive optional, Gigabit Ethernet, decent onboard graphics in a small form factor.
Back on topic I can't wait for the day that we get a good Mac client for our res system (likely never). Still, we're waiting to jump ship too.
I had roughly the same experience. CFLs have treated me bad over the last 2 years. (I've used Lights of America, Phillips and some labeled "Energy Star Micromax")
I paid for my electricity, I should reasonable be able to use it to do whatever I want it.
Powering an incandescent bulb is within reason. What's next? No P4s allowed since they waste so much energy too?
Besides banning a particular type of bulb is totally stupid, it would be better to just have regulations on efficiency. As long as we're all being jerks about it just tax inefficient bulbs.

So you're docking connector will require a dvi port.I dunno about you but I'm waiting for the dupe.

Because it keeps the encryption intact. Granted I still thing DRM is wrong.
You'll see more and more companies doing this kind of thing!
Now that's a summary I'm willing to read- Bravo editors!!!111

Just so you have a heads up I clicked on your sig...twice.

Oh I'm ok if it's your tax dollars- just as long as it's not mine.
I love LAMP.
I don't know how you ever lived without it. I've cut my catalogue to apps addresses and just a few other bits (plugins). You've hear it plenty by now.
Oh, You're BWJones.
I never clicked on your site link before today but I've always enjoyed your comments.
Cheers, Ed

You could always explain the ideals of FOSS and the merits of the GPL.
(if nothing else you'll get yourself out of having to do actual conversation)
Just get new customers.
Stupid ogg with it's vendor-lock-in. *wink*
Isn't it kind of obvious to look for sound matching the output signal of the computer and subtract it from the incoming speech recognition signal?
Like noise canceling headphones.
So much for 8000 hour gurantees.

Arrr.
'Course you'll want to run BeOS so you can keep an eye on is_computer_on_fire()
Bye
You're welcome.
