Why is the roman empire not here any more then? There where always rebellions in different parts of the empire, tax collectors and other agents where ambushed and killed if not given an escort. The roman's managed to maintain there rule in the short term by Overwhelming military presence and fear like you say.

Certainly the former roman citizen's didn't love the invaders but they had less fear as they (the barbarians) where interested more in making settlements than establishing total rule. Fear does last longer than love, which can turn into disillusionment, but respect and tolerance are fare more solid. Just because something isn't 100% doesn't mean it's not the best way for the long run.

In other words, because Microsoft started "integrating" applications rather than simply bundling them, in order to stay within the law in the US, they've apparently violated EU antitrust law. Seperating the media player to comply with the EU ruling leaves them open to more lawsuits in the US, simply because, although it's not distributed in the US, a version (distributed as the same desktop OS) would exist in which the media player can be seperated.

Okay, mixtaping is illegal, and you can cite me for hypocracy on that, but I personally feel that the amount of added effort, the small amount of an individual artist's work, and the aspect of some secondary level of creativity make it a legitimate activity, as well as one that gets promotion to good artists

The reason RIAA don't like P2Pis because it allows people to find out how good a song is before they buy it they can no longer buy a profit with advertising. Now they will have to release quality products, encourage and sign good bands and that's got the record industry scared, scared that there going to have to compete on quality.
