I kind of agree, but Slashdot is a news site. What if the New York Times did this story, talking about how great Tomcat was but never told you what it was.
Granted, this is a technical site, but no one here is familiar with every single technology. Haven't you ever seen a story listed here that said something like, "Wow! XProduct is the next best thing in the YTechnology field, blah blah blah." Now I don't have time to read every article slashdot mentions, so how should I determine if this is something that might interest me a bit. I could research it, but then I may as well just read the article. So now I have to read every article that I don't know exactly what it's about, to avoid missing the "Next Best Thing."
It wouldn't kill the editors to pick a baseline of knowledge, and write to that level, explaining anything that can't be assumed to be known by someone of that level. Like how newspapers write at a 6th grade level of English, or something.
Perhaps this is the job of the original story submitter, since they presumably are the ones who care most about getting the information out to the hordes, and it doesn't seem like the editors really edit the submissions before posting them, oddly enough.
I've actually been using both Opera and Firefox (the Mozilla stand-alone browser without email etc.). On point 2, I think you're crazy. Opera is a memory hog, just check TaskManager if you don't believe me. Of course I did always have many tabs open at a time. Unless they fixed it since I switched to Firefox, the last Opera version I used was 7.2ish.
The only thing you don't get in Firefox after installing the proper plugins is proper zooming capabilities. I really loved Opera's zoom, especially since I have a 1920x1200 laptop. Firefox has zooming, but you can only zoom the text and the images seperately, and also, the whole page doesn't zoom. For example, if a frame or something takes up only 800 pixels, after you zoom, the text will get bigger, but the frame will stay the same size, leaving that empty space to the right of the frame the same. You end up with a couple of words per line once you get it to a readable size. Also, you have to then zoom each image seperately, but that's not that big a deal really, sometimes it's convienient. Plus you can do it with gestures, so it's quick and easy to zoom the images you want to see closer.
A cool thing about the Mouse Gestures plugin in Firefox is that you can see the gesture you're drawing on the screen as you make it, which is nice. Plus you can make custom gestures of arbitrary shape and complexity do whatever you want. You may be able to do this in Opera, but I never ran across it.
That's why when Lyndon Johnson wanted the civil rights amendment passed, he was almost unsuccessful because Prominent Republican Senators like Albert Gore Senior voted against it. Furthermore, the whole mess was started when Republicans decided to secede from the Union when probably the greatest Democratic Party President, Abe Lincoln was elected. You can't shake off all those years of racism.
Also it's a viscious lie that Lincoln institued the Emancipation of slaves simply to thwart those rascally Southern Republican States of the Confederacy since they were pretty much the only ones that had slaves. And besides all the slaves in Northern states which were controlled by the Democrats got their freedom after only a few more years wait. Weren't they lucky!
Yesiree, there's no denying that the Republican party is full of Racism. Why, the very audacity of them proposing that race not be considered at all when doing things like student admissions. It's way past too late to go down a road like that now!
It's a painfully obvious comment, but it doesn't look like anyone has made it yet. Steve Wozniak, THE founder of Apple just spoke at the HOPE hackers conference about how he's been a hacker all his life. WTF Apple, why is this so "shocking"?
I wonder if they've found any security vulnerabilities that they aren't telling the world about? They would fix it in their versions, but leave it in the main one, so that they could exploit it against enemies that are using Linux and other GNU stuff.
So I clicked on the link in the article to a page called google.com, and I have to say this site sucks. It looks like a 5 year old wrote the HTML. I guess it is a search engine or something, but come on, who would use a search engine that looks like that? I think I'll stick with Yahoo and Alta-Vista. All their pretty graphics and informative links on the front page mean I'm sure to get better search results than on this google thing. Please! This google thing will be bankrupt in a couple of months!
It is 2 way in the US, although it used to be one way (in conjunction with a dialup access.) You have to have it installed by DirecTV because it transmits, so it is more regulated than a receiver only dish. I wonder why it is not in Canada yet. Are they too North to see the Geostationary satellite, or is just that they don't comply with Canada's equivalent to the FCC yet. Maybe Canada's government is purposefully denying DirecTV to favor a non-American company since they don't like capatilism up there
You are aware that Bush has actually bothered to learn Spanish. Do you think he did so to speak to the Prime Minister of Spain? Also his sister-in-law is of Mexican descent. And he supports NAFTA, which most people would agree benefits Mexico at least slightly more than the U.S.
Most presidents pay lip-service to Mexico, while it would appear to me that Bush has actually tried to build a relationship with Mexico.
If one was to hate Mexicans, I would think there were better candidates to support than Bush.
So let me guess that you are a frightened panty-waist whose heritage comes from a country that can't defend itself, and a Communist Party supporter.
I was thinking about the Intellivision controller. It had a round disk that was basically like a thumbpad on todays controllers. I seem to remember some game where you had to do a rotating type action on it to play. Isn't that like what an ipod does? I've never messed with one.
On my Laptop LCD I can barely see it even if I am oriented exactly at a right angle to the screen. It's only a hair's shade different than the background color. I too thought it odd that Delphi said it came from VB, now it makes more sense when I see there are two arrows.
Dude, It's all about how they are doing it. Yes, during the Clinton years republicans would vote to not approve a judge. This is a power given to the senate by the Constitution. The difference here is that the judicial commitee is blocking the vote from happening, because they know that the judges would be approved. This is not a power given by the Constitution. If you do not agree with what the outcome of following the Rules set by the Constitution will be, you may not simply forego them through a trick of procedural rules.
Maybe at first the GirlFriend, but once you marry them, suddenly you end up getting more love from the Cable Modem. Ahhh... It was nice while it lasted though.
Exactly how many women are you in possession of over there. Could you bear to part with a few. Please send a list of descriptions, (along with weight to calculate shipping), and I'll make you an offer.
Also, I don't mean to sound threatening, but I have a rather large amount of impunity here, so I would get too close.
... having Iraq be free is important to our National Defence...
Odd that you speak as an American, but use British spelling. I agree with your statements, however the spelling confused me for a moment. When I saw the spelling, it made me automatically assume you were speaking about the UK's national defense, until you mentioned the American Economy. Are you one of those Americans that uses British spelling, or a transplant, or a bad speller.;) Just curious I guess.
It's amazing how many engineering students get 2 years into a computer/electrical engineering program and don't know how to use a scope to read important parameters from a circuit.
That is amazing. I took the first circuits class when I was trying to get a minor in EE (Major was Comp Sci) and we had a lab portion where we used scopes right away. I don't see how you could be learning anything in EE without touching a scope for 2 years. You did say just 'Engineering', perhaps you were talking about the Civil Engineers.
Hey sammy_55, just wanted to let you know that that quote came from a character called the Comic Book guy, who is on an animated show called the Simpsons. I'm not sure what the name of the episode was, but you can look it up on the internet thingy.
So the order stating, "DO NOT ATTACK IRAQ" was incorrectly OCRd as "DONUT ATTACK IRAQ" explaining the large amount of Krispy Kremes dumped on Kabul that one time.
"A joke is like a frog. You learn alot about it by dissecting it, but you kill it in the process."

But we'll still smoke pot and have free sex right? Oh yeah, and I have to listen to CSN man.
Wait a minute, you want us to eat the goats? No way man, You gotta be vegan!
OK, now you're just trolling. Yes I am aware of the different meaning that English speakers have for the word fag, than American speakers.

Will the Beagle declare that the Solar System will have "Peace for our time"?

I'd venture a guess to say that about 95% of everything that you can do with the GUI, you can do with the command line.
Conversely, I figure you can only do about 75% of the things that are possible with a Command Line on a GUI. Maybe that's just in Unices, not Windows.

I don't know. Ugly porn is pretty much UNUSABLE. At least I've never been able to get it to work.
