From a positivistic point of view, you might have proven the statements "The average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and... expansion of the oceans", but you have in no way therefore provided evidence of the "global warming"-hyphotesis. And, if the whole hyphotesis is made up of these variables (average temperature, ice cap size etc.), then it is superfluous right? So, either make a framework supporting that the introduction of the hyphotesis gives something extra to our understanding of earth's global properties, or cut of this hyphotesis.
Your evidence can be correct, but you have to have more to actually state that something else also is true.
Question: Why compare two ways of communicating, and use on of them as a norm when judging their ability to communicate something?
I wouldn't expect you to "understand what I am saying" if I express myself in dancing, rather to spoken language.

Yup. The problem with the concept of free will is the problem of making a determenition criterion. How can ju determine by "ocular investigation" that someone done something out of free will?
Say you have a guy in a box. Say this guy grabs an apple. How will you decide if he did this out of free will or if he was instructed to do so?
Furthermore (as above poster pointed out), choises made without any base in what we see/feel etc. should best be labeled as random. And choises made based on our nature, aren't they deterministic? So as I see it, either way you end up not liking choises made by nature, but not the opposite either.
As to the subjective side of beeing - you are "responsible" of how you percive that you act, how you percive how others act and so on - cause, it is you who feel it. No one else than you experience the feeling of feeling you. Therefore you are responsible of you feelings/thoughts with or without free will.
I dunno if this is a reply to previous post, and it's not a reply to the question "why is data mining...". But, as a philosofical question I find it interesting. Cause, its not easy defining "cause and consecvence". Like, if a mooving ball hit a not mooving ball, and after the collision the two balls moove - then was the cause of the other ball's motion the first one's?
This is answered by the logic of the system (the system that definies motion, ball etc.). But, if you don't have a fixed system of logic, then cause etc. is not defined. Hence you can approch it by data mining. If successfull, you can construct a system from the trends you find, make hyphotesises etc.
So, I don't have anything special to say.. But its interesting. Do we need to definie ex. cause beforehand?
Actually, and what is not mentioned fully in the article, scientists have been implanting electrodes in humans brains before. And, via remote control, been able to at least rudimenty control these peoples activities. One of the front people of this "scientific" field is José RM Delgado. He conducted a lot of these experiments, like implanting electrodes into a womans brain and >making> her throw a guitar in the ground, from just a second ago playing it. I found an article http://www.wireheading.com/delgado/brainchips.pdf but I haven't read it.
Delgado visioned a psycho-civilized society, in wich unwanted behaviour should be moderated by authorities, via remote control (to brain implants).
Actually, acording to swedish media, this material will function both as cpu, and storage medium.
Therefor there will be quite a big leap in computer "power" for all, not only those who crave fast cpu's.
(sorry, bad english)
.. aren't only manufactured in Russia and Usa.
The beautiful land of Sweden, with companies like Bofors, Space Universities and more, is a big manufacturer and exporter of both military and space technology.
Go Fugelsand!
Consider this:
First of all, as pointed, the rotation of earth causes a force called Coriolis' force to act peripendicular (to the right) to the direction of motion. Therefore the probe will not go only downwards, but in a curve, like things thrown off high buildings. Therefore if the probe is set to motion on the upper half of earth, the motion of the probe will be directed more and more towards east (a=wxv). A stone wedgie in your eastward side.
The other problem is that of the cooling of the probe:
If cooled, the viscous friction will increase, causing the probe to slow down. And, you'll need a quite nasty cooling system to actually make any real difference.
And, how 'bout the problem of pushing away all that iron?

There is no empirical data supporting such a stand. Guess you could say that depression is a mood disorder, not a personality-alterer.

I'm sorry, but wanting to download a Swedish movie is concidered as an act of mental illness here.

and, wouldn't it be neet if you hack in to the network, enable you to see all unit movement and location. I see a terrible security issue here.
