I installed Feisty on a R51 Thinkpad with a Broadcom 43XX wireless mini pci card. I finally gave up and dd'd my hdd img backup file back to the disk. As usual the BCM43XX module autoloaded and didn't work so I had to blacklist it. Then the ndiswrapper version that installed (1.9?) via apt had some strange issues. I know it's a lot of the problems with Linux & wireless are the fault of the hardware manufacturers, but this is one huge weakness with Linux in general vs. Windows. It reminds me of the pci modem issues when they first arrived on the scene back when. Bad news is Linux still has issues with some PCI modem chipsets. Automatix usually handles 3D and codecs particularly well (when the site is up..).
tried IE7 Beta? It doesn't suck from an interface standpoint. Security issues aside, there are a few features I'd like to see in Firefox that are in IE7. The RSS intergration is well done. Customization still needs tweaking though.
retribution against IBM for it's walk on the Linux side. IBM was a Microsoft sucker for too long. When they rebelled MS was pissed and now Bill G wants to teach them a lesson.
my father-in-law a DVD, the other day, of a George Jones concert to play in the dvd player, I gave him a few Christmas's ago. He called me the next day complaining that the disk would not play in his player. I stopped by his house later to see what was up. He walked me to his pickup truck and began fiddling with the CD player.
The reality of this latest technology is that 80% of people don't know or care what HD or BluRay is. The other 20% knows what it is, but most likely won't be able to afford it until the price hits the gutter. The example I saw on/. the other day about a guy who bought a $5000 Plasma TV and a new DVD player, but refused to buy a $50 DVI or Component cable is the reality for the bulk of people. The NEED for the product doesn't exist. Most people are still in shock from the effects of DVD.
People saying, "It can't be done."
Sure, some things "can't be done", but others are just "difficult". Too many times I have shown that "can't be done" stuff could be done in a quarter of a day. Imagine how fast it could have been done if it was just "hard"?
The word "just" normally sets me off as well, when it is applied to a person, as in "I am just a user, or I am just a teacher." Every human is unique, they are not "just" anything.
I'm sorry but this statement just reeks of new age, political correctness gobbledy gook. I feel like I'm reading an interview with a kindegarten teacher. Ok, he's more philosopher than programmer, I get it.
If botanist could cross-breed soybeans and kudzu, it might mean free fuel for everyone! OPEC would then have to sponsor terrorist activities, but instead of destroying buildings and people, they would be burning fields of kudzsoy!
We are all being conned by a magnificent illusion. We refuse to believe that our government is corrupt to a much deeper level than feeling up interns or pork-barrelling. The illusion is multi-faceted in order to take in marks on both "sides". Our government is using a contrived crisis in order to create social/economic/moral change. We laugh at conspiracy theories and choose to live fat and comfortable in denial. http://www.infowars.com/index.html

If you're not having to reinstall at least weekly, you are most certainly not hacking....

If one side/bank of fans quits, do you think it might flip over? Dennis
