It's a lovely thought, transparency. But it won't ever happen. How many world 'leaders' would agree to 24/7 public surveillance? Close to none, I'd wager. Yet these few people hold power that really, really shouldn't be held by individuals. They're human, they can't be trusted with such deeply important things.
The same goes for democracy - there's no transparency - fuck's sake, there's no democracy, let alone transparency - see where I'm going with this? - opaque 'democratic' systems, where a so called majority votes in a group of quasi-dictators for 4-5 years, having almost no say whatsoever in the actions of the body politik.
Transparency? Democracy? My arse is more democratic than the US and UK put together, and probably more transparent too.
I know the parent was modded funny, but I think it's insightful. If I had mod points right now, that's what I'd give it.
Ownership could very well be something we have to forget about when we really start going extra-solar. Unless, of course, we intend to go out there sticking our pointless, pathetic fucking flags in everything.
Ownership in this instance is a path to conflict - assuming a long enough timeline and, obviously, other lifeforms.
Similarly, extraterrestrial intelligent lifeforms are a sociopolitical nightmare - after all, we can't even share what we've got.
Anyway, whether it was intended, I thought the parent was better than funny.

I think you've pointed out rather nicely how closed systems continue to fail.
MS wants to know what its users are up to, yet it doesn't want its users to see what it's up to, leading to, at best, an opaque data exchange, at worst, an almost impenetrable barrier between provider and consumer and, ultimately, distrust.
Then again, the same goes for most plutocracies - lack of transparency leads to a lack of accountability, to a lack of trust. Most people won't accept that though, indoctrinated as they are [again, the comparison is very similar].
Peoplesheople should eschew Windows and go Linux. If they don't, they're nothing but Mac users.
Claimed to be optical - why does it have a wire coming out the front?
Also, I recently bought a 'Trust' mouse/keyboard optical combo [£30] which had a mouse shaped rather like that - the lack of angle up the sides [not to mention the side buttons I kept clicking accidentally] combined with the weight of the batteries making it amost impossible to lift with one hand without slipping out.
Needless to say, I no longer trust 'Trust' [not that I particularly did] and the side buttons are covered over with friction tape.
Contrary to what Flexbeta says, I suggest it's a better idea to first get the new firewall package, disconnect from the internet and then switch the firewall off before installing and initiating the new one.
Switching the firewall off [no matter how weak it is] while connected to the net will open your machine up to all sorts of problems.
"If you do accidentially strangle someone during sex, you can try to implicate that website just as you would a book about sexual strangulation. If you met the girl through the website, the site owners may (or may not) share some liability. The same goes for whipping."
I reckon it'd be a struggle convincing a jury that you whipped someone to death by accident.
The first thing I thought on seeing the setup was 'That'd be great for virtual reality'.
There's resistance and freedom of motion for simulating a variety of environments. Augmented with, say, a servo-assisted suit for resistance variables.
Pipe whatever into the helmet and away you go...or not, in this case. Imagine all those UT2K3-VR[tm] gamers thrashing around in a pool:)
Might be worth employing some sort of anchor, too.
Comparing the results between google and accoona for 'chinese dictatorship'.
What about Angelina Jolie?
Oh, wait....

Everyday's a sad day. Welcome to reality, you must be new here.

If that list is bona fide, I'm surprised soy beans aren't on it.
Check out the awesome images of Japan/Kyoto. IMNSHO, they're far more interesting than the optical illusion stuff.
Thanks for making them available, Mr Kitaoka.

Do you genuinely believe in the open source movement?
If you do, why?
Do you see it as a source of revenue, something that will benefit humanity or a mixture of both...or neither?

And the people already in it are going up and you want to go down?
