    On two occasions in the last few weeks I've tried to use the point-to-point directions based on post codes.

    The information is utterly incorrect and extremely ambiguous.

    Take note, fellow UK /.ers, it's an alpha release for us.

    I sometimes wonder what will happen to the economy if MS ceased trading altogether. The fall-out from the vendor lock-in alone could cripple a vast swath of the global economy.

    The companies hanging off its coat tails are in the umptybillions too....

    My point was, it's relatively simple to contact large numbers of people via email, with nothing much to stop that from happening.

    Dunno what the answer is though...more's the pitty.

    Then again, like the average hitch hiker, I'm not really sure what the question is either.

    The best ones usually have a huge network of contacts where small businesses buy "opt-in mailing campaigns" or some such rubbish from a third party, who then subcontract someone to harvest or buy a list from the Internet and then give it to a another spammer who sends the actual spam.

    How about someone figures out how to write an incremental list generator, searches for and finds an open relay and sets a bot loose?

    There's more than one way to skin a cliche, so to speak.

    What good is technology if it's locked up between a few corporations? How will that help anyone?

    I know I ask more questions than I answer, but that's just me.

    If I didn't support OSS, I wouldn't be true to myself and I wouldn't be true to my kids - for better or worse.

    After all, how can my kids learn how something works and develop it further if the guts of that thing are locked away in a capitalist vault serving only that tiny minority who supposedly 'owns' it? A tiny minority, I hasten to add, which seeks only to improve the lot of itself at others' expense.

    Ownership is a fad; knowledge, or lack, is perpetual.

    That's pretty much why I subtly push my shit down other people's throats.

    I've convinced my entire company to make the change to Firefox. They had to keep IE for online banking and other sites which use Active-X. I've been using Linux for 6 years, but I really can't think of a way round this. Other than making the vendor change the way they do things for a minority, is there any simple way?
