Aside from pushing somebody's political agenda... why is this being posted on Slashdot? It doesn't seem to fit into the normal type of news that gets accepted to the site. Your site, your rules... it just seems out of place.
Slashdot probably posts what's popular to nerds/geeks/others who are the target audience.
Since there are over 1000 comments on this thread, it seems like this was a smash hit.
Actually, you should see what sex offenders go through. Having to register in their neighborhood, etc. To me it sounds like someone figured that once sex offenders are guilty, they are always guilty. I'm not sure this is the best way to rehabilitate someone and bring them back into society...
In fact, any good (read: not Red Bull or Rock Star, which are basically just sugar and caffiene, which will leave you in a blood sugar drop a few hours after you drink them) energy drink will have a high ammount of B12 in it.
OK, what is a good energy drink then? What should we drink?
Game controls
Progress Quest belongs to a new breed of "fire and forget" RPG's. There is no need to interact with Progress Quest at all; it will make progress with you or without you.
You can quit Progress Quest by using the window close box, or by hitting - (hold down the key while hitting ), but there is really little need to ever do so. Please note that your character will not make any progress except when Progress Quest is running. Your character will make no progress once you quit the program, until you start Progress Quest again.
I've just never caught on to the idea. I don't read celeberty blogs, I don't write one (who the heck would even care what I think).
I am in full agreement with you. I don't really care what you had for breakfast, sorry.
But it's clear that there's a large subset of the population that cares what Britney Spears had for breakfast. Look at all the folks who watch celebrity gossip, obsess over the lives of their idols, etc. We've even seen new idols created in front of our eyes (Survivor, The Apprentice, American Idol, et al), and I think that we're seeing much of the same with blogs. Check out some of the more popular blogs and I'm sure you'll find the same kind of pattern.
I hate blogs. Why must everyone in the world think their thoughts are a veritable goldmine of entertainment? I don't get it.:-\
You do realize that slashdot is a blog, right? Journal entries, check. Comments, check. That's pretty much all we have here...except for the community, of course.
And if you counter that slashdot is a news site, look at all the editorializing that goes on in the posts/articles. Plus if you just read slashdot for the comments, you're basically reading folks who think their thoughts are important enough to be read by your eyes.
So this means that laptops will still have the same low battery life as they do now. Why dont they make low voltage processors with larger batteries so you can get more than a few hours of runtime.
Theoretically, so it weighs less. I am considering buying the Sharp 2.0 lb notebook based upon its light weight...so seeing an AMD with low weight is encouraging because I know AMD has done well with performance in the past.
wow, interesting, thanks. makes me want to go out and grab an athlon.
The Transmeta efficeon is that company's last, best chance for survival. Moreover, it represents the acme of ideologically pure VLIW development. Featuring a laundry list of very real architectural advances beyond the Crusoe, efficeon raised the hopes of many that Transmeta had finally turned the corner on performance.
Unfortunately, the efficeon is a staggering failure by nearly every measure.
snip
We suspect that the reason efficeon throttles so horrendously is because Transmeta greatly desired to reduce its recommended Thermal Design Power so that it could secure fanless 1GHz designs. The problem is that as soon as you start needing that 1GHz that you paid for, the efficeon is throttling down to 933MHz, 800MHz or even lower.
In other words, the 1GHz fanless efficeon appears to be outright hucksterism.
Transmeta projects that the maximum clockspeed that the 0.13-micron efficeon will achieve is 1.2GHz and, beyond any length of reason, positions this chip against 1.7GHz Banias and 1.8GHz Dothan! Well you can't claim that Transmeta's marketing folks are short on outrageous audacity.
the size might be killer though, so not counting the sharp out on that factor. after all I do own an ipod:)
you do realize that while driving, you are on a government-subsidized road. in fact, the government probably paid for the whole road, however many millions it cost.
You're joking, right? That "telephone" thing seems to be working pretty well, as well as my "computer" and "car".
Just because social engineering may be the best way to solve a number of problems doesn't mean that technology can't help. (or hurt!)

sounds interesting to me, I'd like to check it out. email me.
which would you pick to study abroad?
I only speak English.

Nice.
whew, one of the few "Insightful" comments that were actually Insightful. kudos.

red bull tastes like candy...
reminds me of that old joke:
A mathematician is a device for converting coffee into theorems.

you do realize that this is NOT a zero-sum game, right?
it's in the article. RTFA
holy shit man. I wish I paid attention during High School Latin.
now doing applied math at berkeley. wish I paid attention here too!
Do you think that modification was censorship?
If so, do you think that Google is violating the said "Don't be Evil" philosophy?

But recall that modding does not imply coolness. Exhibit 1. Exhibit 2. Exhibit 3.
*waves hand*
these are the benchmarks that you are looking for.

couldn't find any thinkpad t600 models...any references?
The competitor that comes to my mind is Sharp and their Transmeta Efficeon processor. That notebook is quoted as being 2 pounds and 1GHZ/512MB/20GB/10.4" for $1499.
I do want a laptop for class and just having around, so I was strongly considering getting the Sharp, but constructive suggestions welcomed..
don't drive. then no scan.

has anyone tried writing math on a tablet pc?
I suspect that there's more to this than your comment might indicate.
