Hi!
I have written a set of programs called dum-utils. Here are the basic functionality:
average: A program that will print out a random number between 0 and the sum of all input.
bound: Will bind two number together, e.g. if you bound 6 and 3 then 6 will effectively be a 3 in all subsequent calculations and vice versa.
interval: Will give you the time from you started using this tool, until you stopped using them, (the shorter the time, the smarter your are!)
dumgrep: Will grep input or files for dumb names like "Brian", "Stevo".
dumprocess: Looks for other dumb programs like "ed" and so on.
dumsum: The sum of all dumb people on the planet, will contact ftp server of distro and get download count.
randum: Generate a random dumb sentence like "Why do people eat food when there are stones?".
range: The range a dumb person needs to be at to get shot with a rifle, currently about 400 meters.
round: Draws round circles all over the screen.
The utils are written in Befunge-93 and will be available shortly.
ehrm, if you are planning to go into the bsd's you should stay clear of GPL. Another thing people don't mention is to get it added to the ports tree of bsd's, get it into apt-get and so on.
The different web sites have a lot of info, here are my feelings..
I have an NEC ND-1300 multiformat dvd writer. I am very happy with it, and ue it for writing dvd-r, dvd+rw and cd-r/rw's. It works fine.
Regarding differences between - and +, my experience is:
* most dvd players read both.
* - media seems a tad bit cheaper these days, but I wouldn't worry too much about that.
* One major + advantage is reliability at higher burn speeds. if I burn a 4x - it's not nearly as reliable as a 4x +.
* also the + media seems more scratch proof.
* + standard supports mt.rainier which will make you able to use your +rw media as a floppy.
* nd1300 supports mt.rainier (mrw).
* apple macintosh only supports -, so that may be an issue to you.
* new pioneer drives A06 will support both formats.
* laptops are only able to burn -
In conclusion I think that the -R and the +RW formats are the best.
Regards, and good luck.
SMP is not supported, although there is some work on it. One of the reasons for this is a whole new set of security problems arising in such an environment.
All the bsds exchange code, in fact nearly ALL modern OS' use the bsd networking code, that is including Windows, MacOS and linux. nearly all "unix" implementations use OpenBSD's ssh implementation, and most of their security patches to other apps like Apache, and named are applied to their respective source trees. Isn't this the point with "Open Source"?
does it draw power from the usb bus or does it require an external power supply?
This is like saying: In the future, food will be free, you will pay for a recipe subscription instead.
But then again, you could set the password before you flashed it.
If they don't owe creditors any more, previous sheareholders are beneficiaries.

I seem to remember a norwegian guy who built dvi outputting dvd players about 3 years ago (!) I believe they costabout $5000. Not sure though.
When did berkeley become a separate country? did I miss something here?

Well, I'm sure you will be glad to know then, that the C3 uses about 10W and the whole motherboard (w/cpu) about 20W
