I heard Gnome 2.14 is supposed to improve on its already impressive (and immensely popular) window maximizing/minimizing frame animations. In 2.14, the entire desktop transforms into "frame mode" whenever a user moves the mouse pointer. Elegant large black frames outline everything, so the user can easily see where one application begins and another ends. Gnome developers have been pouring over ui interface designs from the early 90s, trying to determine the most effective way to display huge black frames on the desktop.
Good point. On a related note, what's to stop someone from committing a crime in the privacy of their own home? Someone should be monitoring these "private homes", otherwise people could be using them to shelter all sorts of illegal activity.
I'm sorry, but the "very latest and greatest Linux distros" do not run well on Pentium IIs and the like. They run slower than an overweight grandmother with no legs. Sure, you can not use Gnome or Kde, but heaven forbid you try to open an application like firefox or openoffice: slooooww.
I don't see how your quote proves that the NSA is intercepting only incoming calls.
Also, what do you think the Attorney General is going to say? "We've been intercepting calls from people who we thought may have something to do with al Qaeda, but some of them actually have no relation to the group." Sure. Who exactly determines if there is a "reasonable basis to conclude" if someone is involved with al Qaeda?
The problem here is that there is no oversight to the program: no checks and balances. The way it's set up it can easily spiral out of control and run amuk over the 4th Amendment and the rights of innocent Americans.
Now Bushie doesn't want us to refer to this program as "Domestic Spying", but rather "Terrorist Survelliance". How's that for some Orwellian word play?
The worst part about all of this is the American people, once again, have demonstrated that they will allow their leaders to do anything, absolutely anything, as long as a couple buzzwords are tossed in. A politician can introduce a bill that sanctions the torture of grandmothers, and it will pass with little scrutiny as long as he repeats "terrorists" and "sex offenders" a few times.
I was under the impression that this wasn't about child-pr0n, but about a law attempting to restrict minor's access to good old everyday pr0n. It's a huge waste of time and resources by the government(what else is new). Good luck trying to keep a 15,16 year-old male away from pr0n!
To me it seems like a heavy-handed blow intended to fight pornography in general under the guise of the always effective "won't someone think of the children!" argument.
Before anybody mods this as a troll, I am directly replying to a modded up comment. Modding me down for simply disagreeing with your opinion is mod abuse.
Plus, anyone who mods you as a troll is unpatriotic, unamerican, and quite possibly a terrorist/child pornographer.
While I don't necessarily agree that the ACLU is biased (I think it's only "pretty well known" due to media concentration on certain issues in which the ACLU is involved), I think you make a great point about this selective party-based criticism.
Everyone needs to stop the, "but, but what about... Clinton... or Gore, or Carter, or Kublai Khan..." Who cares about them? The current president is wiping his ass with the constitution! I'm not happy that the last twenty presidents may have done similar things, but the important thing is to stop what is happening right now.
People need to stop buying into the two-party squabbling bullshit. Pick what issues are important to you, and fight for them!
Spying on american citizens without a warrant is indefensible; it doesn't matter who is in office.
Sure, this may be the year of the HTPC....

The Year of the HTPC

...but next year will be the year of the linux desktop! (no, no, seriously this time)
I thought the sarcasm in my post was rather obvious, but I guess not. Anyone who doesn't detect my sarcasm should face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years!

Bring on the frame-candy!

Obscure Southpark reference?

Well the opvious solution is to yous somthiong lighter (XFCE4 etc) With linux we at least ave a choice.
True, but I like using desktop environments that have useful features such as spell-checkers.
I kid, I kid...
Ah, but Gnome and KDE are big fat squealing ram-hogs as well. I predict that by Gnome 2.18 I'll need 2 gig of ram just to run Gnome-Terminal.
Nice try! No way am I going to visit that website and be labeled a terrorist by the U.S. government.

Blindly obedient much?
suspected terrorists
The key word here is "suspected".
Please name one, single, US citizen who has been so treated.
Yaser Hamdi.

Good thing I use Windows ME.
All bets are off when you're dealing with kiddy pr0n. It's the current media-scare darling, and in most cases you're guilty until proven innocent.

Finally, someone is thinking of the children!

America can solve this serious problem of kids receiving inappropriate emails the same way they solve other problems: long, long prison sentences!
If anyone is caught sending a child an "adult-related" email, they should be sentenced to 40 years to life in federal prison.
For the safety of the children everyone should be imprisoned!
