Stop using religion as some sort of magic cop-out to explain away all the woes of society. In some sense, I think we are victims of technological progress. Microchips came along and replaced the printed circuit boards and the wire-wrapped Heathkit projects that made building and learning more about electronics fun and enjoyable. Back in the 40's you could talk to people around the world by going down to the old TV repair shop, and picking up a box of used parts and wiring up a ham radio. Or how about those old "100 in 1" electronic kits you could get and wire all kinds of oscillators and crystal radios with? If they weren't racists, then his race wouldn't even be something thats brought up, and he wouldn't be getting so much attention in the media.

CB radio has its advantages and disadvantages. More serious radio users got into ham radio where users were more serious about radio communications, you were identified by a license, and it was highly regulated by the government. With the regulation came improved communications.

CB is good for some, ham radio good for others. So too with this. They should have a general Internet like the noisy CB band, and the other Internet with more regulation and better communications.

Just like providing power from a power plant, working at an internet company requires a lot of resources, and a lot of work from skilled people. And yet strangely enough, so many people feel as though they should get the benefits of all of this without having to pay for it. Where does that idea come from? And why don't we have that same sense of entitlement with other services and utilities? I don't see a fundamentally significant difference between the industries.

Were you aware that one of the fathers of the scientific method, Rene Descartes, was also not only religious, but wrote about various personal interactions with God? His highly logical mind was also capable of faith in God, and his strong faith was not incompatible with logic.

The focus of the attack is all wrong. This isn't an operating system problem (which is proven highly stable and configurable from a technical perspective).

I think the primary problem with these Linux vs. Windows evaluations is that end users testing out the software all have a take it or leave it attitude. If they try it and don't like it because there isn't enough multimedia/office support, instead of complaining to software and hardware vendors about it...they blame the operating system and drop the ball right there.

If progress is going to be made, those users need to, instead of just abandoning the operating system, actually WRITE to these hardware companies asking for drivers...actually CONTACT these companies and ask them for multimedia software.

They should complain to nvidia about their poor Linux support...complain to HP because they don't have a Linux driver for a particular model printer...ASK large software companies for support for Linux.

And the MS Windows user inquires: "Why SHOULD I have to do that? Whats in it for ME?"

A valid question...if you would like to have free software, user, (and yes, free as in Free BEER), there is in fact something big in it for you! Consider spending $100 for Windows XP, and $350 for office software. Where is the advantage? There are some pretty substantial cost benefits involved, wouldn't you say?

Its unfortunate...so many Windows users who try the operating system...find it too difficult, or lacking software/hardware support...and who just chuck it claiming it is still underdeveloped. Only when they stop blaming the operating system, and start blaming companies for lacking driver and software support, will there be any progress made.

I wonder why your post has accumulated mod points, because you're really not saying much. Can you explain WHY no single country should control the Internet? Part of the problem here is that for some reason, many people tend to think in terms of power==bad. If we've got the power, then we really should give it away, because there is something wrong with having power over things. But this really isn't the case. Power isn't a bad thing...it's the abuse of power. Another poster here stated how fearful they were that the US government would abuse that power. Well, the US hasn't abused it's control of the Internet, despite whatever fears you may have about what could happen. With the US in control, and maintaining it's power base, there has been no appreciable amount of cencorship or bias against any kind of content or protocol. I can imagine quite a number of other countries, such as China, who have proven they filter content, where such power would be in some bad hands. But then this still begs the question...who has the right to decide which countries should be in control and which ones shouldn't? Who can decide if China should have control, or how much control, etc, they should have? If the US is in control, you'd have to do more to back up any reasons why that is such a bad thing. Power, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. The power should go to the governing entities that will bring the most benefit to EVERYONE. Don't be so afraid of power.
