  1. Idea on Extreme medicine: Head Transplants · · Score: 1

I have an even better idea. Forget about the other body. Why don't we just connect the head to a bunch of machines and put it in a jar. That way you won't even need work worry about a body at all. It could be attached to a little scooter and paralysed people would have the ability to scoot their heads around with brain waves.

  2. Alpha on Alpha Can Live Without Microsoft · · Score: 1

I was interested in the comment above about Intel pushing technology that is 15 years old. I don't believe that is correct. People have been working on Merced for 7 years to get it finished. They didn't develope it 15 years ago. I think Merced and those that follow will make damn good processors. Up until maybe the latest AMD processor, no others have been able to compete. Intel doesn't try to monopolize anything. If they wanted it bad enough, when they bought half of digital they could have taken the Alpha and put it to bed. It seems everyone thinks that every company wants to have a monopoly. I doubt that is the case. I heard from Craig Barrett's mouth that he would rather have AMD around. Without competition companies are not as productive.

  3. Hmmm on Ask Slashdot: Could E-Mail ever Replace Snail Mail? · · Score: 1

I think it will probably take a long time before snail mail is replaced. Besides the authenticity issues, there is also issues of regulation. If we start making email authentic, it would start being regulated by someone like the USPS. So what happens then? If someone was stuffing a 100 envelopes in your mail box, or reading your snail mail, it would probably be a Felony. It sure would give more of a reason to charge people who messed with your email or authenticated online materials. :)

  4. Rant & Rave on New Ruling Makes Domain Name Theft Harder to Prove · · Score: 1

I think it is bullshit. "A man who doesn't work for his money ain't worth shit." Maybe there are some instances where it isn't clear. But when people take domain names like disney.com or intel.com or something that obvious, I think they shouldn't get shit. It is stealing. For example some companies (i.e. Intel) give a profit share to every employee based on profit. If they have to spend money on a domain name, the person who gets that money is taking money away from every employee of the company. It is an exploit and all those who try to get rich quick from this are worthless in my eyes. And I'd imagine many others think the same.

  5. Nonsense on Black Futurists In The Information Age · · Score: 1

I think that whole article was pointless. We might as well start giving everyone Ferrari's because it wouldn't be fair. More White people own them. Give me a break. Computers cost money. If you don't have money, you don't get a good computer. Although they are so cheap today you really have to be serious poverty not to be able to afford something good enough to access the internet. I think the problem is people's desire. I'm only 21, but old enough that when I went to school I didn't have the internet to use for educational purposes. Learned as much as I could through books. They are free anyone who wants to can walk into a public library and read enough to get a college degree. And minorities have more than an opportunity to go to school. I, with help from my parents, pay for every single cent of my education. And they don't make enough to make it no problem to pay. I think that people bringing up race make it worse. I don't know how it used to be, but people of my generation don't give a shit about race. There are different classes of people but money has not one thing to do with it. I'm talking about a class of life. There are people who want to learn and better themselves, and there are people who don't want to do anything but sit around for the rest of their lives. I know people who are dirt poor and keep their houses emaculately clean. I also know doctors who's houses I think are filthy. Start looking at the individual not the whole. Now I do agree that many minorities have problems. Especially since most of the minorities come from urban areas. Where it isn't the greatest place to life. Most don't have any desire. I don't know how to change that, but making issues about race won't help anything. Example... Ever have a test (especially in College) where everyone bitches about how hard it is and you get a feeling of helplessness. "why not just give up?" So that doesn't solve anything, now people just loose hope because they feel like they can't win. Anyway I'm off track. If people really want to access the internet it is possible. I'm a computer engineer so I love it, but I imagine is I was in a labor part of industry I could care less.

  6. Intel on Quantum Computing for Dummies · · Score: 1

I went to an open forum with Craig Barrett(CEO Intel) and someone asked him a question about quantum switching. I just thought this would be an interesting input on the subject. Barrett thought it would be at least 20 years before they started to explore that option. Because according to Moore's Law they will be able to reduce the manufacturing process to about .05 micron. Right now they are at .18 micron. Then after it has become that small, they can start using 3 dimensional layers of transistors. So the transistor still has a long time ahead of it.

It was a little off the norm, but it was different. What other horror movie did a lot of people go see? Scream. Why? Because it made fun of the same old shit you see in every horror movie. Some stupid people running around getting killed by some unbelievable senario. If you don't like this movie I don't see how you could like any horror movie.

What is wrong with Witch? Do you pratice black magic or some shit. Here is the definition of Witch: "One who practices the black art, or magic; one regarded as possessing supernatural or magical power by compact with an evil spirit, esp. with the Devil; a sorcerer or sorceress; -- now applied chiefly or only to women, but formerly used of men as well." This word has been around fro 100's of years. Let's see some evil spirit chasing around people in a haunted woods. I think the title makes perfect since. Maybe if you practice witchcraft you should have looked witch up in the dictionary too. It is totally different from the other examples that were given. a black person did not chose from someone to call the, excuse this word, but "nigger." If people today still follow Hitler and call themselves Nazi's, they have a repuation that will follow the name. Get over it.

I think lots of people will bitch about having all this information about them on a car is terrible. Well if you don't commit any crimes you don't have to worry about it. They aren't going ot come to your house to arrest you for a pirated CD. Some of that is useful. I had my finger prints taken as a child for help in a missing persons case. Reguardless of what I have heard on previous discussions, a fingerprint like that can't be used against you in court. That is so parents at the time wouldn't be unknowingly signing a death warrent if a crime was committed years down the road. A car with that information could be used for all kinds of useful security. Maybe I wouldn't have had to be running all over fucking indian reservations today to get my car back because some worthless bastards stole it. :)

I work at Intel so obviously I like Intel chips better. I've never had any problems with them and they are very well made. I know several people that have celeron 300's overclocked to 500 Mhz. The reason that AMD has trouble taking on Intel is because they don't have the ability to mass produce what they make. Intel can refit their fabs while they are still running, so there is no downtime between different processors. I think AMD is good though. Its a love hate relationship. Without them there is no competition. If they were not around the government would be all over Intel because of such a high market share. Anything that keeps us engineers on our toes is good.

And the only place you can find that many shares with fast connections is college. At my school almost every computer that is shared has mp3's available. I can't even imagine how many mp3's there are available on the school network. As long as you don't put up and ftp, they school doesn't stop you. I know from experience. Check out www.scour.net. Their site searches shares. But make sure it is during a semester. Summer isn't to great but you can find some stuff. Fall and Spring you can find anything.
