then paint the company "less evil" because Bill G donates money. So, it is OK to bully your competitors, and engage in illegal activity, and be convicted of crimes as a company as long as your CEO gives the money to 'worthy causes".
Welcome to U$A...culture of the buck....
MS "bundled" it's web browser as part of the OS. This decision was in part brought about by legal challenges facing the company at the time. In my view, this was a very poor engineering decision, and the resultant "marraige" of browser and OS have led to repeated security nightmares for admins, companies and individual users.
To my mind, the obvious solution would be to unbundle the two. But if MS did that, they would be admitting to perjury in court. I find this lack of judgement and integrity greatly disturbing, and this is a major reason I believe that Microsoft cannot be trusted to make the right, correct or best decision. This is not a hppy thought when it comes to my business.
My question is, given this past behavior, why should we give ANY credibility to statements concerning security from Redmond?
...I would recommend that you do the same. Looks like a full court press while the Republicans control everything...too good an opportunity for the greedheads to pass up.....
Actually, it seems to be a re-hash of eveything we have known that is evil about DRM for the last few years, just all prettied up and in the same place.
I despair that these arguments have much worth, particularly when you are talking to a corporate entity that has twice been convicted of monopolistic practices. It seems naive to me to even expect to be able to make such a difference. Since I live in the U$A, I know, no matter what the rhetoric, that it all comes down to money in the end. They will take a buck from anyone and anywhere that they can, and of course genetically they subliminally support the monopolistic practices of others.
Computing literacy will be the next dividing line between rich and poor......
Tesla sold his patents on AC to George Westinghouse for not a lot of money. Westinghouse was prepared to pay up to 20 million. Tesla then poured his energies into wirless energy transmission and was far more innovative than others in this area. Marconi got the patent, (which was under dispute until after Tesla died, at which point he was found to hold the prior art) and the profit.
Come on, the dinosaur economy isn't just going to roll over and die......and from having read/. all these years, I think I know FUD when I see it...please.
Shhhhhh! I'm hunting Hobbits.....
I was thinking about this earlier this evening....just exactly WHY is MS pushing DRM so heavily, particularly when it isn't really user friendly at all. And then I read the article about the RIAA suing that student, and now this about UCITA (which was passed in Virginia, even though I wrote the governor telling him he was doing a bad, bad thing)....and then it hit me. The blinding blue streak of enlightenment.....MS et al are going the DRM route, as part of a deal with the RIAA et al to shield themselves from massive lawsuits for providing 'enabling technology'. I mean really, why hasn't the RIAA sued MS et al for making software that enables such piracy...they certainly have deep enough pockets to make up for the 'damage'. Or Dell, Gateway and Apple for providing the hardware....
Or did I take the red pill?
Isn't Mae-East located in one of the C&W buildings in the Tysons Corner, Viriginia, USA area? I thought that was where the NSA had installed all of their Echelon sniffers. I bet there is some real back room skullduggery going on if this is true.....
This. You can also configure IPSec between the machines. This link gives you some specific info: http://www.it.cornell.edu/serv...
Fake post is fake..... As much as I find their behavior reprehensible, I can't really say trolling them this way shows any more *cough* maturity.

Dang, the page is borked. How much does Slashdot charge to NOT put links out to?
Family Entertainment and Copyright Act (Legislation) sounds like a loda of crap to me...

"Keeping the honest customer honest." That is their motto, if you look at the slide presentation. True political spin.

Because by the time I got wind of it, it had already passed the House, and was being sent to the Gov's desk. My bad, I know...
