    "You right, but if you do not provide raises, make working condition miserably by giving more work then is humanly possible, give no hope of promotions to most and never back fill."

    Then you can raise a hue and cry about how inefficient and lazy US employees are, that they deserved being let go and replaced with bright, shiny overseas workers who will work cheaper, longer and so much more profitably. Never mind the ramifications. Less money circulating in US economy, less taxes being paid by US employees. Good move, management! All the while, continue to drive for shifting tax burden to those who are losing jobs ( no, not as IBM management, but as individuals supporting current right wing ideology )

    In "Princess of Mars" ( book ), Dejah Thoris was described as naked except for a few ornamental items.
    In the "John Carter" movie, she was clothed through the whole movie. They can find a way to handle it.

    Being treated "pretty good, relative" does not mean things are good.

    Company A, keeps shackles on the ankles of employees and houses them in prison barracks and feeds them less than the minimum required to sustain life, replacing them when "worn out".

    Company B, all as above, except they feed the employees enough to sustain life and, maybe, have a few kids ( so they can have more "employees" ).

    Better, but still not acceptable. ( Yes, my example is extreme, move along ).

    Daisy had to backpeddle and retract, but might or might not be a liar ( cant prove it by sources != liar ).

    You are assuming the guy jamming would know about it.

    If he/she/it were sitting in the front of the bus, facing forward, and someone was having a (nice quiet) heart attack in the back of the bus, he/she/it might not know. There are other scenarios possible as well. Person needing to talk to their kid about where to meet ( so the kid is safe while waiting ), etc, etc
    And the person trying to dial out would just be getting signal problems, he/she/it would not necessarily know it was due to the jamming device being in operation.

    Also, might not the jamming device be on accidentally?

    It would be easier to sign a treaty. If only that would actually work.

    There is friction over trade issues. I still don't get why America allows the pegged currency to continue. It should be
    "float your currency ( let the market decide the value ), or we wont trade with you". And make it stick by doing that.

    What about the Taiwanese? They don't seem to want to be part of China. Should they have to be?
    How has integration worked for the people of Hong Kong? If you could poll them, would they rather be with China, with Britain, on their own?

    On integrating North and South Korea. How would that work? Do you think they will be able to convince "fearless leader" to turn over control?
    Would we have North or South Korea forming the government of the combined entity? If North, my opinion

    The richer they become, the *more* conflict there will be. Over who is top dog, resource allocation, pricing, trade, power, prestige and politics in the wider world and other things.

    Also, just remembered, in "Footfall", Niven/Pournelle send their Orion craft into space loaded with ice for cooling, IIRC.

    In "Sundiver" David Brin posits the use of a laser to cool the ships headed into the Sun.
    I don't know if the physics really work,but it seemed plausible to me.

    3. Recoil is easy to solve. Fire a blank in the oposite direction for every round.

    What if you have multiple ships on your side behind you? You will be firing at them, potentially.

    Right, and laptop prices fell. Yes, they started higher, but fell. With the number of units sold on cell phones, including high end ones, the prices should fall faster.

    Except there is now no price competition on the phone and the service, so the carrier is free to tell you the phone is 600 when the market would bring the price down over time. Cell phones are so common, even smart phones, that I cant see what supports the high prices.

    No condolences needed.

    The van is great for camping. It has moved more people that I care to remember. The seats come out and it will fit quite a bit.
    I bought it in 1999, it has 183xxx miles and is still going strong.

    The downsides, safety, as you note, and gas mileage. Which is why I have another car now as a daily driver.

    As an example, I have a GMC Safari, no lockable storage in it.
    Hatchbacks might have similar issues.

    I agree completely.

    If you do have to leave the stuff in the car, seems to me that you should put it in whatever area of the car is safe and bury it *when you leave*, not when you arrive. In my mind nothing would say "there's valuables here" than futzing around with those things at the destination.

    The market works wonders. Pay engineers more, and you will see people start to enroll in those courses and graduate with those degrees. As long as you dont play games and devalue that work spent getting that degree by outsourcing those jobs....
