I've seen experts in C++ break down totally when they encounter Prolog and LISP. I've seen people who are steeped in a C++ background who's code in Java looks like something out of a programmer's worst nightmare.
Quite. I think his point was that if you have to teach *one* language, C++ is a good one to do that in. You get closer to the hardware than in most, you can teach pointers, lots of stuff.
Personally, I would recommend a variety of languages. With a lot of "spread" on them. ( I.E. Dont use pascal and algol and C++, use Lisp, Cobol, C++ assembly, basic ).
I am in San Diego county ( Poway ), and my machine sounds the same. Printer ( looked like thermal paper ) on the right, had to press a button to "print ballot" a number of times, then a final "cast ballot" button.
Looked Windows to me. It was a Diebold machine.
Handling of the voting cards seemed lax to me. Polling personell put my card in the machine for me. For another woman that came in while I was voting, she was handed her card to put in the machine. I dont think she did swap cards, but the opportunity was there.
It's hard to make out what you are trying to say in your last line.
Are you saying that only a moronic fool would believe that people are the problem, or are part of the problem because there have been dramatic climatic changes in the past?
If so, that seems to be ignoring that we might be part of the problem. Climatic changes happened in the past without human input does not mean *necessarily* that *this* set of changes do not have a human component. Shouldnt we find out?
Also, lets say, for argument, that people are not any part of the problem at all. If there is a climatic change coming, shouldnt we figure out what the impact on people will be? If there is, and the impact is one that people will not survive, then we should know that, and prepare ( including moving people into space, modifying earth's climate deliberately, ???? ).
The issue that the Democrats have participated in voting fraud has been brought up over and over again. Didnt make it right when they did it, doesnt make it OK if Republicans do it now. Or do you think it does?
Excellent strawman on "liberal bias". Here is the Republican version of the boot screen. "Vote right or report to your local reeducation camp, dirty lowlife. Feel guilty for not making more money!". Stupid, right? Just as stupid as yours.
This issue is about how technology is potentially being misused, seems appropriate to have here.
And, finally, you realize that you have done what you decry? On two levels ( making a political statement, and lack of tolerance )
I dont know that it is so easy. If you tell the people what the passwords are, they may forget them. There will be more than just the Presidential election, there will be any Senators up this time around, congress critters, in CA we have other issues to vote on. Did you vote the right ticket? Need a different key for each. Cant write them down, or print them, otherwise, the vote interested party will demand access to the printed key document. If you dont print them out, they will need to be easy to remember, and probably, therefore, easy for the vote interested person to know already, or find out ( perhaps simply by voting themselves. ).
I acknowledge that you have a great point that the main responsiblity lies with the election officials, not contesting that at all. But as US and state and local citizens, I am of the opinion that the Diebold employees and management had a responsibilty to themselves and to the rest of the country that they failed miserably in holding to, if the allegations are correct. A patriotic duty.
The ones that are suspicious will be looking, paying attention. ( just means we should all be suspicious, like a good QA person ).
Another point, if some someone was looking to pervert elections ( and I dont disbelieve this from all the reading I have done ), it would be about as easy ( as far as I know ) to simply "misrecord" the vote to the backing store, and leave the UI alone. This would lead to fewer suspicions about the system.
I think the point being made is that these companies talk about free market, ra ra, but then do all they can to keep any competition away from them. The attempts by the companies to enact legislation ( where successfull, and maybe even where just threatened ) is where the issue is, and it seems to me to be a valid point.
Kentucky fried fingers. They're chicken lik'n good!
I hope it wasnt English...

They did say suborbital. Maybe it is *very* suborbital?

RTFA? I dont know, but it might work.

What are you trying to argue here?
Voting fraud is OK, because it was done in the past?
Because the "other side" did it?
Sounds about right.

Perhaps the airlines have been nationalized, and we just dont know about it.
You mean "Tongue in cheque".
Checks and balances?
Move elsewhere, where things are more to your liking.
Leave anytime you like.
Check the button *first*. Then write.
Right, but if you dont have a beard, then you dont have to shave.
Well, if you start

then go to
2,
then keep doubling, you will eventually get there.
Why buy retail when you can buy wholesale, and cut out the middleclass?
Why dont they let congresspeople in the library of congress?
They keep leaving the pages bent over.
