Browser vs client would be more cross platform and doesn't require you to install some special software on someone else machine.
Who burns their stuff to CD? I don't wanna have to burn music to a CD just to be able to later put it into my MP3-player. But then I don't own one and I don't buy music.
It's still a nice alternative. Just a simple thing such as downloading music I've already paid for into another machine such as your work PC or new laptop or whatever will be a little harder if you have to install iTunes aswell.
Java client would be ok for me but that's just because I like the concept, most other people would probably hate it to death vs native iTunes.
Yeah, but mixed together with: "delivering a quality product every fucking step of the way. People simply will not shell out cash for anything less. No DRM. No PC-incompatible discs. No opt-out marketing bullshit."
As you already know it's inconvenient because you need to install iTunes, most files uses DRM, those files are compatible with more or less nothing, and even DRM-free AAC files aren't compatible with most music players.
iTunes is good and convenient if that's what you want to use, it runs in your OS and you have an iPod.
I guess sales only proofs the other solutions was even worse.
May be true, but also some people may not know that it's free, some people just wanna save them the bandwidth (I would) and hey, what do you know, people download music without knowing WHAT music they download or be THAT intrested and would probably never had bought the album even thought they fetched it.
Because they hadn't figured out how it would be done yet?
Or maybe they was even affraid that people would break the subscription lockin if it was available from the begining.. but uhm.. that strat failed anyway;)
But would I have needed OS X? When did the first MacOS come out? Also 83-84? And Steve left in 85? How long had it evolved then? What version was it? What says it wouldn't have been as good or better than OS X if Steve had been there the last 22 years aswell?
Since Bill is such a nerd of course he would start something new, and Microsoft would probably just keep on doing what they does. (But what do I know?)
Ah, this is my first mac and I've only had it for 5-6 weeks or so..
I wonder where Apple had been if Chris Espinosa hadn't convinced the others that they should get rid of Steve for 12 years:( So fucking sad, amazing feat of Steve to make a such good computer and OS, manage to do it again with Next, and then come back and still carry on and go throught all that shit with having to mix in Mac stuff into Nextstep. I wonder if it wouldn't had been much cooler if I could have skiped mac compatibility completely and just make OS X "nextstep" and nothing else.
So the last 20 years Steve has managed to develop three OSes with new ideas, during that time Microsoft has managed to buy DOS, copy MacOS into Windows, release NT and fail with Vista.
If people don't have issues with iTunes I don't see the whole "omg it requires iTunes"-point.
I run OS X now so I don't have much of a choice, so iTunes it is, it seems to work better here than in Windows thought, but I haven't added like 10.000 tunes so we will see later..
Personally I prefer Amarok, and in Windows I guess I would compare winamp, foobar2000 and kxplayer (or whatever the korean one is called.) Foobar2000 is probably your best choice it if places all your formats.
Sue for that? For paying more for music? Ok, that's a good case!
I'll sue my grossery store next time the lowers the price on apples, damn morons! How can they do that when I bought apples the other day!?
Bad luck for you thought, but I guess the companies which went DRM-free wanted more money, or Apple thought they needed more money to convince them, but once Amazon used the lower price they had something to tell companies to convince them that a lower price was necessary.
Bad luck and sad for you but clearly not something you can sue them for. I hope you where joking against those morons deciding that sueing Apple for lowering the price of the iPhone was a good thing to do..
Shouldn't the naming be the other way around? Normally companies brags about how the device supports extra security features as if that was a good thing;D
Well, the new info is that you will be able to code real apps aswell, the old info was that you couldn't and only web based widgets was allowed.
I suppose earlier they didn't know how to release the third party apps so the solution for the moment was web development only.
I'd still say it's not flawless.

But google would probably try to find a way to find your store if more people had the problem.
Anyway, I find this design-for-search-engine-hits-stuff lame.
And what percentage of the consumers don't buy an iPhone because they knew third parties had a harder time developing applications for it?
Because they hadn't figured out how it would be done yet?
;)

Uhm, why design a webpage for a search engine? The whole purpose of a search engine is to make it good in finding relevant pages?
If it fails with that the problem isn't with the webpage but with the search engine. Fix google instead.

Yeah, atleast everyone has paid once for it and they earn money on the hardware.
Not to mention protection against piracy never seems to work anyway, except games where you need a real key to be able to play online.
I'm betting there will be no authorization now either...
Sure it's a pain, but noone force you to buy it. And I have iTunes (I have closed iTunes store and has disabled it in the parental controls thought ;D)
;D
She didn't bought iTunes MP3s.
In other news almost all my music was pirated for free as MP3s so they work on most places. The rest are pirated wma and ogg
Ah, I can't tell others to do what I will do... But I could have given a clue.
Anyway I have already bought the overpriced ridiculously speced hardware, and as George Bush puts it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKgPY1adc0A
No, didn't know they had ever.
No, that is for reading the guide and convince people that you have all the other stuff you probably need.
;D
Linux is nowhere like that. Running Linux does not convince anyone anything but you may learn something.
Man is only a sad excuse for _THE_ guide thought
Sore skin on his checks from all the tears? (spelling.)
;)
KDE 4 runs on OS X and Windows too you know
Btw, exactly WHAT do you want them to "innovate" in the music area? Or where have they copied someone? What's your point really?
How is the first one Apples fault? Except pricing or something.
...
Yeah, Apple is just copying amazons music store! Without drm and all! Bad Apple bad!
Sue for that? For paying more for music? Ok, that's a good case!

iTunes plus songs work on any AAC player! ('cause they're, you know, AACs).
Atleast I guess they do =P

"'Le grille', wtf is that supposed to mean?!"
Seriously thought, you guys need to switch to SI units, what is a gallon anyway?
(I know google makes conversions easy.)
