I live in a heavily traveled tourist area fetauring mostly shopping that caters to youn families and seniors. We are a very small town with an amazing amount of hotels. I think that there are 5 in less than a mile and at leaste 10 within 10 square miles. The first 5 I mentioned are directly off the expressway. During the weekends all these hotles will sell out and during the week we do a good trade in buisness travelers because we are located halfway between Saginaw and Flint MI.
Only one of these hotels have High Speed Net access. The buisness travelers are usually horrified because on the phone lines they can only pull 28.8. On the weekends the board husbands are looking for anything to do while their wives shop for 10 hours straight.
We do have a Starbucks in town and their $10 an hour Wi-Fi is not up and running yet. If I had the money to start my own shop I think I could make a mint off these people.
I would set it up as a coffee shop/snack bar. I would offer free 802.11b wifi access to anyone with a laptop. I would have several (~800mhz) terminals running Knoppix with a hard drive for SWAP and file storage. Rent out the useage of my terminals on a half hour rate. For the buisness guys a laser printer at.05 a page (I have heard many times, "What no Kinkos around here"). I could even possibley get into some (emergancy road)repairs, or create a second half to the store that sells hardware and does repairs.
The point to all this is that in this location it would work. There is no Library, no Kinkos, no 80211.b hotspots, no net at all.
I go to a small Community College. Our bookstore fees are enormous. I am one of the few students that buys my textboks from Amazon. Best example is a Geography book that I paid $16 for used that everyone else bought used for $70 or new for $90.
There are several reasons that this is a joke. Being a community college the students only have one choice (besides the web) to buy their books, the Campus bookstore. Many students are low-income and you can buy your books at the store directly from your student loans or other forms of fincial aid. Even if a book is $60 on the Web and $90 in the store, if you dont have the $60 you are SOL. Student loan refunds are not processed untill a month after classes start. Another problem is that when we enroll we are not given the ISBN's of the required text. I asked in the bookstore and was blatently told by the Manager that they do not give out that information. I was able to get it, but I had to track down each professor to get the info. The lack of used textbooks, well even for a book that is in high demand they only give you 10% of you purchase price. Most students figured that they spent $100 on a book and the bookstore only wants to give them $10, its not worth it, they just keep the book.
The last thing is relating to our bookstore anyways, I say a blurb in the Campus newspaper stating that the bookstore had a $10,000 shrink level. Now I am not a buisnessmajor, but even I know that is completely unaccaptable. Thats when you start hiring armed gaurds to post at the door.
Heh, Starbucks
All I want is a large coffee. Not a Venti coffee, not a Talle coffee, not a biggie coffee, not a grande coffee. Just a large black coffee.
"Do you wnat room for cream, sugar, carmel shots, donuts floating on top?"
"No lady, all I want is a large BLACK coffee"
Why is this so hard to understand?
Just north of Flint (and south of Saginaw) is one of the best "commerical" theaters in Michigan Cinema Hollywood
There are hardly any kids there, except when school is on Vacation for Xmas. The theater is clean, stadium seating, full bar, and the sound is perfect. Thay also have a digital projector for films like Star Wars. The cost of tickets is only $6.50 too.
Allofmp3 does have its paperwork in order to stay in compliance with Russian laws. The RIAA is completely aware of Allofmp3 but has not been able to take any action so far.
We think it is safe to say that Allmp3 is a legal service.
If you would like to do a little research yourself. Use the Altavista Toolbar to translate the Russian pages at www.roms.ru
Is using Allofmp3 legal? In the User Agreement Allofmp3 states that you may not use the service if it is in conflict with the legislation of your country. Of course Allofmp3 has added this as a kind of disclaimer.
Who can tell if using Allofmp3 is against the law in your country? We doubt if anyone can in the current jungle of legal issues on copyright and internet.
I am with Charter also and getting 2048/256 also. But I was forced to call them today because they thoufght I was behind on my payments (they were wrong). Turns out that they don't offer the 768/128 price plan anymore and because I called I can get the 2048/256 rate (that I already have) for $13 a month cheaper. So they mande it retroactive and credited my account.
As for bandwith, on that 256 upload In September I transferred over 20 gigs, and they never said anything.
wow, i freaked out when I saw no post at all. Wonder if I'll come in at #5
