  1. Can they target political fanboyism? on Facebook To Stop Ads that Target, Exclude Races (usatoday.com) · · Score: 0

Seriously, it's as though there is nothing else going on in some people's lives that they are constantly posting some political commentary. Guess what? Nobody asked for your opinion.

  2. Please don't inflate Zucerkberg's ego on Donald Trump Won Because of Facebook (nymag.com) · · Score: 1

His head might assplode (then again, maybe that would be a good thing). It's bad enough that he thinks he's all that and a bag o' chips.

  3. House cleaning on What the Trump Win Means For Tech and Science (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 1

Chances are good that there will be a house cleaning of some government-funded projects. Given his speech last night about rebuilding our infrastructure, which is usually a major tenet of the Left, it's entirely possible that funding will be increased for broadband projects. The question is whether or not there will be quid pro quo for such funding.

Trump does love grandiose projects, though, so I would expect funding for crown jewel stuff that makes for good PR such as NASA.

  4. Crowdfund a test in space on Leaked NASA Paper Suggests The 'Impossible' EM Drive Really Does Work (sciencealert.com) · · Score: 1

We need to crowdfund a SpaceX launch with a test platform. Enough with this endless ground-based testing that can easily live or die by politics.

  5. Symptom of a larger disease? on Gawker Pays $750,000 To That Guy Who Didn't Invent Email (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 1

Was it a case of Gawker believing their own premise (and that of many other people in the media) that revisionist history is always right and reparations must be made?

  6. Because creativity on Ask Slashdot: Why Are American Tech Workers Paid So Well? · · Score: 1

If you give a detailed and precise specification to an overseas vendor, they will dutifully create what you asked for. But if you say to them that you want to build X, that they need to work out the details, and make it look cool, you get garbage.

  7. Does it track flesh tones? on Nvidia Adds Telemetry To Latest Drivers (ghacks.net) · · Score: 5, Funny

  11. Low-hanging fruit on Judge Refuses To Block New York 'Ballot Selfie' Law (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

IMHO, this law, the lawsuit, and the ballot selfie itself are pointless distractions. These days, everyone know who the political fanboys/fangirls are going to vote for so the selfie is old news. Voter ID, on the other hand, is a worthwhile endeavor if you can find a way to convince people that a free government-issued ID is not a poll tax. My question is how the hell you function in life without a photo ID these days.

  12. Can it add subliminal suggestive messages too? Of course, I'm being facetious but when, not if, this technology is misused, wouldn't it be a good idea to embed subliminal audio watermarking so that juries and the media will know that the audio is faked?

The government wants you to believe that inflation is low but how is it that every monthly expense I have has gone up (with the exception of natural gas) every year for the past decade and in some case e.g. health insurance, has outpaced inflation by significant double digits? Take the red pill, folks. They are blowing smoke up your collective ass.

  16. Correlation != causation on 'Robocall Strike Force' Proposal Could Stop Caller ID Spoofing (onthewire.io) · · Score: 1

That drop in IRS calls could also be due to the recent bust of the Indian scammers behind it all. As for the DNO, what's to stop some company setting up an automated phone routing center in BFE South Dakota? VOIP from India to the routing center where the calls would originate.

  17. IMHO, this would be an ideal use-case for telerobotics and augmented reality. There would still be human operators but they would be in a control center up on the surface.

  24. Irony is lost on some folks on Project Include Drops Y Combinator As Peter Thiel Pledges $1.25 Million To Trump (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

Oh, the irony of a so-called inclusive project that seeks to exclude folks it disagrees with thus proving that inclusivity is not their goal but rather the power to force others to do their bidding.

  25. Sounds to me like this guy doesn't want to work hard for his constituents. The basic premise is that you should be paid for gracing the world with your existence. Accomplishments and merit are irrelevant to them. Oh, you showed up to work for 40 hours? That's nice. Did you accomplish anything? No? Tell me again why you think you're worth more money. Never cave to these people. Nothing is ever enough.
