Who is to say that when element 139 or 155 is discovered, it wont be stable and useful?
If there is even the slightest possibility of a new element being useful, the reasearch must go on. What if the next element found turns out to be a safe efficient fuel source? Anything is possible.
In that case, how is a new atomic element created? Do scientists try to find a combination of existing weights(individual elements) that add up to a specific new atomic weight?
If elements 113 and 115 were created by these scientists, what prevented them from creating 114? Was it simply that they could not create a stable element with the correct atomic weight? I am no atomic scientist, but if I could create elements with atomic weights of 113 and 115, it wouldn't be to long before I could create the perfect combination to reach 114.
I guess I should just be thankful for our scientific community.
I know I am missing a lot of the fine mechanics here, but is it the pursuit of the correct combination that is so hard? Or is it just minor alterations to existing elements?
Perhaps this rover got close to a large deposit of iron or some other unknown metal. I am sure the iron could cause at least a little bit of distortion.
Perhaps a solar flare could be causing the communication errors. I suppose we'll have to wait for more details.
So far in Canada, artists have not been paid a cent from the CD-R royalties we all pay.
Where does it all go? Well, at least we know where it doesn't go.
In the News: Google Smashes SCO's Darl with Mech

Your Own Mecha

Given Google's current predicament with SCO knocking on their door, it's only a matter of time before Google purchases a Mech for self-defense.
Google certainly can afford a Mech, using the money that SCO would otherwise get (or not get). This Mech could first be used to end SCO's reign of evil, while providing the Google executives with an exciting new bodyguard!
On a side thought, imagine one of these Mechs being entered into a round of Battlebots... Carnage!
My mother had to purchase a fax machine for her home office last year. I looked at every reaonably priced fax machine at a Staples/Office Depot. Every fax machine on the shelf was 14,400 bps and under $200.00.
Perhaps the more expensive laser/enterprise machines are the quicker ones?
Many companies reply on Fax to get signatures, or approval for a project and etc.
Faxed documents are used as practical legal documents in Canada, AFAIK. Companies rely on Fax to get their work done, which should keep Fax around for a long long time.
One question though, isn't it about time to move up from 14,400 baud Fax transmission?!
After reading the linked article, it would appear that this "product" is nothing more than a quick way for HP to place all of its products throughout a company. The Adaptive Computing product itself is nothing but vapourware, a cloud of smoke.
While HP does have some excellent products at their displosal, it just does not seem proper or accountable to create a "product" out of thin air.
Adaptive Computing is obviously a new method of getting HP's foot in the door, which would then lead to every IT component being from HP's stock or products.
Perhaps HP should use a more "Adaptive" name like HP Adaptive Business Solutions.
Maybe we should get some images of the supposed cydonia region where extremests say that ruins exist..That way when we find nothing, we can tell them to get lost.
If you really want to use rechargable batteries and get a great bang for your buck, try rechargable Nickle-Metal Hydride batteries.
You can buy a charger and two AA batteries for about $15 or less at Walmart. I actually puchased the Energiser Nickle-Metal Hydride charger with AA batteries for my digital camera.
I have never seen batteries last so long as these. Great for long term and for high drain, can't miss. The price is nice too.:)
I cannot see Microsoft trying to gain an edge over the cable companies. I do believe that Windows Media Edition will benefit, in the long run that is.
Tivo will likely be hit hard by Microsoft if this patent is legally pursued. Microsoft will wait until Tivo is low on funds from court appearances and assimilate them into a Windows Media Edition product.
Tivo will undoubtibly be in for rough times.
Wouldn't Pay Per View services on cable and satilitte TV constitute some sort of video on demand? Everyone watch for Microsoft Tivo, and the PPV expansion of MSNBC.

Wow my head hurts.
That was the 5th element. :)

Does element 114 already exist?
Two new elements AND a new form of matter? These latest breakthroughs are simply amazing!
I for one salute our science community. Keep up the good work folks.

Indeed it would have to be.
They could have made a large 600 part tarball and bz2'd the data....
Can't SCO get into trouble for lying about 6 million lines of code when the code fits into 6 pages?
There has to be some type of legal mechanism that would penalize them for this. Quite the oversight if you ask me.

The last outbreak of Madcow desease prompted a thorough investigation, in where they found the tainted cattle to have come from the USA.

Finally, I can fill the void between my Tim Horton's XL Coffee, and the first espresso of the day!
