It doesn't even "waste" any pixels unless you are using the entirety of your desktop to keep files or shortcuts, in which case you much bigger problems than a freakin' icon metaphor.
Trolleys/trams and trolleybuses are like electric city buses, many cities run them. Of course these utilize overhead power lines; I don't think batteries big enough to run a bus are very cost effective.
No, we're not up in arms because this is just some guy talking, not any government's policy.
The Gazans have a strange idea of freedom to me; when Israel gave them a chance to form their own government they decided to destroy their economy and shoot rockets at Israel.
Or Medicare Part D. I still don't understand how the new health care legislation, which gifts insurance companies with new members, is socialist, and giving away free drugs to old people is perfectly acceptable.
It has a pro video subsystem, a pro audio subsystem, a pro graphics subsystem, a pro Web development subsystem
I agree with you, but it is very difficult to have "pro" Web development subsystem if you can't run Java apps. The Amazon EC2 tools and the YUI Javascript compressor are two examples of staple web dev tools that are Java-based, not to mention the popular Eclipse IDE which some use.
If true, this is really sad. OS X really is a sweet spot for web development, and Macs have really caught on amongst developers. The POSIX environment is suited for web dev and the graphical shell, to many, is much more usable than Gnome or KDE. Most importantly, their laptop hardware is killer. You could run Linux on it, or another good laptop, but Linux does not get good battery life on any quality laptop I know of.
Both Apple and Linux. Microsoft has serious competition of OS X in the desktop space, and from Linux in the server space. The Microsoft server offerings got orders of magnitude better when Linux starting taking off.
When calculating a teacher's salary, please include the facts that:
They only work 9 months out of the year.
The tenure system all but makes it impossible to fire them for anything short of sexual misconduct.
The benefits are among the best available.
They have contractually guaranteed pay raises based on seniority rather than job performance.
They have guaranteed defined benefit pensions.
Then decide if teachers are really "underpaid." Being a public school teacher is among the best middle class jobs in the nation right, maybe *the* best because there is almost no accountability for the work they do and the standards are so low. All they need to do is show up for work and keep their pants on, and they are set for life.
and 3. whether man made or not, will temperatures rise enough to cause any problems so serious that we can't adapt? Even the IPCC report says one possibility is that temperature will increase 1C--hardly enough to contemplate taking drastic measures to attempt to avoid.
I can say with a high degree of confidence that it runs most applications flawlessly. Of course, you need to remove many of the new.NET crap, which is ruining the industry for everyone.
It is certainly not ruining it for developers who like to write high quality software in modern programming languages quickly. And it's not ruining it for customers that benefit from better software and shorter release cycles. So who is it ruining it for? People that invested their careers in cloning the Win32 API?
I'd be more interested in the Twitter "conversation" if they implemented threading and a sane form of tagging. How anyone can find it useful without these features, except by watching it all day long, is beyond me. (I'm an engineer.)
Qualified engineers do not rewrite well-tested, well-written, sophisticated toolkits! And why would you have to rewrite from scratch some open-source Javascript if it stopped being maintained? I would just build on the years of work already put into my library of choice.
In the vast majority of businesses, especially small ones, getting to market has a lot more value than building great tech. It doesn't matter how good the tech is as long as it meets the business requirements from a black-box prospective. You don't need three independent projects to do that. The resources are almost always going to better spent on sales and marketing.
I'm with Joel Spolsky on this one. Private offices. If you can't swing that, *please* do not do the round table. Programmers need to concentrate! Some here here.
As others said, most likely it was leaked or stolen, but also realize that in the Valley the level of tech knowledge is a lot higher than other places. There are a lot more people around that know about these things and if it really was left at a bar, that bar probably caters to the tech crowd.
The two tickets are not comparable--you are getting a discount on the open-ended ticket, which is quite expensive on most airlines. As parent says if you have fixed dates, the online price is the best deal you are going to get but is full of restrictions, with a notable exception being Southwest Airlines.
What are you talking about? People with "power" usually have money and thus don't need insurance to cover this.
Mostly it is people in unions (these days, primarily government workers and teachers) with excellent insurance for life.

Most Java apps people use on their workstations are not inside the browser, they are regular applications that happen to be written in Java.

The real WTF is why you don't have a password on boot and why you have Thunderbird configured to store your email password unencrypted.
A secondary WTF is why you are leaving valuable, apparently uninsured, items unattended in a car.
Laptops get lost and stolen all the time. My advice is to put some thought and energy into that reality rather than trying to try to catch this guy.
(NB: Thunderbird will store passwords encrypted if you assign a master password, which requires you to enter a password at launch.)
Mod parent up. Summary is plain-wrong.

More here, in the comments.
Ron Paul was in favor of bringing our troops home and closing foreign bases.
Perot was also info in favor of closing foreign bases back in 1992.
This would save a lot of money.
The code is GPL'd and on Gitbub.

I sweeten my coffee with HFCS, you insensitive clod!

You mean like Medicare?
I'm going to guess they will remain valid since this article is about actions that took place over 80 years ago.
