it being A Good Thing rather relies on that stuff being the right stuff, which is generally accepted as being unlikely.
Not really at all. Parties are elected on their Manifestos and any bills suggested that sit outside those manifestos would be open to a free vote. It's unlikely for example that a Labour government could pass a bill on tax reduction for bankers as their own members wouldn't vote for it.
34% of the population voted for parties that did not have a chance of winning an overall majority, so they're probably not too opposed to the idea of a coalition government.
...or an opposition party - there's nothing shameful WHATSOEVER about being an opposition MP. It's an essential part of how our government works and this attempt by the LibDems to wangle their way into power is forgetting that.
...but it does mean being able to say anything you want.
As pointed out before, if that was so then:
it's OK if I decide to shout "Fire!" while watching a film at the cinema
It's OK if a friend adds your name to the Sexual Offenders list - just for a laugh of course!
The girl is lucky she only got suspended. If I was the Headteacher I would have expelled her and I would have been well within my "rights" in the UK. Student/teacher relationships need to be re-evaluated as they are not working at the moment. Students have no "rights", just privileges granted to them which can be taken away.
...In most places with a lot of speed traps, corruption is rampant and the magistrate / judge is complicit in the fraud...
"In most places" ???? How can this be modded "informative"?? Surely it needs at least a link to back up this nonsense claim before people will pay any attention to it. Let alone mod it up!
It's like falling off a cliff, it's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.
it would be like that only if you put your neighbour's child at the bottom, exactly where you are about to land. Then compare that to tripping over and falling on to the same child.
Both scenarios have a sudden stop involved, but one goes on where the child cries for a bit, gets up and goes back to playing in the garden.
...but honestly, if the 80 MPH crash was going to kill me, the 55 MPH crash probably would too...
No difference between 55 and 80? Don't you do any investigations into accidents in the US?
An ongoing road safety campaign in the UK hi lights the difference in the chances of survival if you hit a child. At 40mph there's an 80% chance of fatality. At 30mph (the speed limit in most urban areas) there's an 80% chance of survival.
I also agree with many people that the difference in speed is an important factor, but ONLY when talking about hitting a moving object (and one moving in the same direction as you!). If you hit a pedestrian, car pulling out or even a car coming in to opposite direction, quite frankly it doesn't take a genius to work out that driving slower will help everyone's chances of survival.
But they do use it. It's available in every branch of WHSmith's and Woolworth's in the country. Just because they didn't have a Facebook app of it does that mean that they aren't using their trademark?
Does that mean they now need to create a mySpace app, a google widget etc just so they can stop this from happening further?
I absolutely agree. Banning by IP is hugely effective especially for short periods of time. You can always "release" the address after a day or so if you think the troller has stopped caring / has served his punishment.
Tachy means somethign like "speed" and the phrase "sent to Coventry" means ignored. "Quickly Ignored" ??
Anyway, I'm not sure that this is the best solution as the trolls will notice pretty much immediately. I'd close any of the offending threads allowing you to have the last word on the subject. Then ban IP addresses if it persists.
AoC has absolutely nothing to do with the talent spec of Death Knights. What's more it was the first post - if the guy had waited for others to post first, I wouldn't have had to scroll down half a page of even more offtopic replies before I finally found someone who ON-topic!
Posted 3 minutes after the story, the guy probably didn't bother with the article and just decided to get his flamebait in asap.
The only reason why devs are "always right" is because when they do make mistakes, they can cover it up and blame the end user.
It's amazing how many people will willingly believe you when you say "but you must have clicked 'Cancel' - don't you remember?"
Cue final post to this thread, Mormon supporter getting the last word in by default... If this is indeed the final post, then who are you calling a Mormon? I, my friend, am an Anglican.
You're right of course, but today Scientology certainly poses a greater threat than Mormonologyism.
Dammit! I was sure it had SOMETHING to do with trucks! Grrr!
Oh, and that whole thing about pipes - was anyone else thinking about their intestines at that bit? No? Not even when he says they are filled with an "enormous amount of material" ??
Matthias: Look, I don't think it should be a sin, just for saying "Jehovah".
[Everyone gasps] Jewish Official: You're only making it worse for yourself! Matthias: Making it worse? How can it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah! Jewish Official: I'm warning you! If you say "Jehovah" one more time (gets hit with rock) RIGHT! Who did that? Come on, who did it? Stoners: She did! She did! (suddenly speaking as men) He! He did! He! Jewish Official: Was it you? Stoner: Yes. Jewish Official: Right... Stoner: Well you did say "Jehovah. "
[Crowd throws rocks at the stoner] Jewish Official: STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT RIGHT NOW! STOP IT! All right, no one is to stone _anyone_ until I blow this whistle. Even... and I want to make this absolutely clear... even if they do say, "Jehovah. "
[Crowd stones the Jewish Official to death]
Surely they are somewhere between 'mingets' and 'maxgits'...

Excellent point. Another fact proving that vegetables truly are the source of all evil in the world.
I can assure you there were no vegetables in my sausage and egg [Insert Brand Here]Muffin meal I had this morning!
Reminds me of after we all had a vegetable curry for lunch at work, my collegue got up from his desk saying he "didn't feel too good".
I got up soon after and went to the loo and when I got there he was still in the cubicle making an awful smell! So, as the great friend I am, as I left I shouted "Holy crap! That stinks!"
Rather amused by my own wit, I was supprised to find that when I got back to my desk my colleague was already there - he hadn't been to the bog but instead went for a drink from the water cooler.
I never did find out who it was that I shouted at, but my boss had been funny with me for weeks after!

Girls in sex ed are the easiest girls to get into bed with.
Do you still find that the case?
If students had no rights, schools would be permitted to use any means necessary to ensure a students compliance, including torture, murder and rape.
I'm pretty sure those are already covered in other laws.

"PornBrowsing®" is their next feature. It's like private browsing, but "goes deeper".
or donkey porn. I wouldn't want my wife finding out about the donkey porn!
...especially if it was going to be a present for her.
Mistakes on news.bbc.co.uk are commonplace now - especially spelling and grammar.
Recently they've started putting up half-stories, unfinished and unpolished, straight away and then amending them later. It annoys me tremendously.

At a dollar a year, that's a bargain! Count me in - and my wife!

Actually that's the best idea yet. That way ALL paper could be recycled at the office without needing to be sent away.

If that's true, it's possibly one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
/. gets so overexcited anytime someone mentions one of the magic keywords (censorship / google / apple / "kill bill gates" etc)
It puts that whole Google censorship thing in a whole new light. (Americans aren't allowed to see that video.)
Thanks to Websense, neither can I (UK).
