Atheism is a religion, a godless religion. Atheists have faith in a belief system that can't be proved. Purely rational people must be agnostic if they are honest with themselves. But, we have a lot of atheists and other religious people because so few are purely rational. And, if you are sitting on the fence, you can still be agnostic even if you aren't purely rational. You might simply be undecided. That's completely understandable when the facts aren't clear.
Back to your atheist friend, most atheists that I know are stronger in their faith than most who claim to be Christian. So, I'm not surprised that he/she was offended. A lot of terrible things are done in the name of religion. That is a fact, and it confuses and bothers a lot of people, religous and otherwise.
I almost didn't want to mention the organized religion "cop out". The religious activity in games tends to be organized and state supported, which adds another layer of confusion. I don't mind confusion in complex games, it's part of the fun. In a game context, i don't see it as a religious commentary.
Why in this day and age do they still have ads and tv shows with dial up noise whenever a computer is supposed to be going online? I know, some people still have it in there homes, but why must it be on the TV?
Thanks to you, I was persuaded to read the whole article. It plainly said that it relied on the inverse correlation between age and testosterone levels, then it never said anything about actual blood tests. Relied in this sense is a very strong word, it means the whole study depended on this fact. So I read the article making the mental substitution of inexperience for high testosterone and it made perfect since, Inexperienced CEO's make more mistakes. WoW! If they conducted this same experiment with female CEO's, would the younger ones make more mistakes? Would they then theorize that the young female CEO's had high testosterone? Females would have made an interesting control group. Did they even have a control group?
It's a byproduct of the agricultural price support programs. The government buys the stuff and then gets rid of it by selling it to the schools below cost. Unfortunately, the supported foods are nasty stuff like corn, corn syrup, and corn oil that humans wouldn't ordinarily eat if they had a choice. Corn industry must have a great lobby. If the schools served good food, the price would double. Have you ever tried to pack a lunch that was as inexpensive as the cafeteria meal? I tried, couldn't do it, then decided my sandwich was worth the extra cost.
Rackspace is certainly not the only hosting company around. It's more akin to a publisher than a blog or a magazine or even a phone company. There are enough of them around that they can have standards. It's not like a phone company where there are still only a handful in town. You can usually find somone who will host you and if you can't, you can set up your own server.
But, if they aren't smart enough to move their website, there's always Google:
Jones says he intends to offend radical Moslems. He dosn't care if he offends other people. But, I don't understand why he needs to offend radical Moslems anyway, aren't they already hot and bothered? I believe it says more about Jones and the incredibly small group of people who follow him.

The military has always designed realistic war games for training purposes. They have some people who play the bad guy. I suppose the difference is that they aren't doing it for entertainment, but does it matter?
AAFES or GameStop or whoever it is should keep it under the counter and have no in store displays. If people want to know if the store has it, they can ask, get carded, and then have the game sold to them in a plain brown paper bag. No one can be offended or traumatized if the only way to know it's there or to even see it is to ask.
He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four, He fights with missiles and with spears. He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen, Been a soldier for a thousand years.
He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain, A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew. And he knows he shouldn't kill, And he knows he always will, Kill you for me my friend and me for you.
And he's fighting for Canada, He's fighting for France, He's fighting for the USA, And he's fighting for the Russians, And he's fighting for Japan, And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.
And he's fighting for Democracy, He's fighting for the Reds, He says it's for the peace of all. He's the one who must decide, Who's to live and who's to die, And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him, How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau? Without him Caesar would have stood alone, He's the one who gives his body As a weapon of the war, And without him all this killing can't go on.
He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame, His orders come from far away no more, They come from here and there and you and me, And brothers can't you see, This is not the way we put the end to war.
You need more news sources than Fox or anyone else you think is being unfair to the Taliban. If you can't find support for the Taliban in any respectable news source, than maybe Fox is telling the truth. Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.
Spouses and children live off base as well. Why should only families who live on base be protected? The only thing special about the exchange is that you need a military connection to shop there. Even families who live on base are allowed to leave the base. They aren't prisoners.
That could go down a really scary slope since your argument basically says that companies should refuse to sell goods to anybody because some might have a reaction to the content.
Think of all the school shootings that wouldn't have happened if Black Sabbath didn't exist, or all the backseat conceptions that wouldn't have happened if the radios hadn't played all that rock and roll.
We should make our world as bland as possible, especially for the children and the veterans, because some of them are much to delicate to deal with entertainment and art that is interesting or disturbing.
Not hard to get, just less convenient to get. If they want it, they will get it. GameStop won't lose many sales. I'm not sure if they were trying to quiet the controversy that already existed or start a new one. But, it gives gamers in the military one more reason to talk about the game. The publicity can't hurt. I just wonder about soldiers in Afganistan - will they be able to find the game in Kabul?
After reading the Gamespy article , it does seem that the game was pulled out of RESPECT of a request by whoever runs the AAFES. But, then the GameStop spokesman, apparently wanting to convey the impression that GameStop thinks for itself, came up with the statement about respecting the soldiers.

Why sugar coat something when the efficient bad words are commonly accepted?
You are right . I find sugar coated shit even more disgusting than the regular kind.
interesting, on /. you have not color so I don't know whether I should taken offense at your remark.

It will be a paradise for anonymous cowards. We can hang out anywhere in that 50 mile radius. Really important if that radius is around Beijing or LA.

That would fix the withdrawal rate problem.

Have you mistaken /. for an ordinary intelligent scientific discussion?

Maybe it uses a security question, and works like a password reset.

What about the troops in Afghanistan? Does Amazon deliver there? I wonder how popular this game will be with the real Taliban.
I think he would prefer a better behaved Taliban, one that treats Afghan women with respect and only attacks American soldiers.
