    If the Raspberry Pi was shipping when I was in the market for a small, quiet media player then I'd have strongly considered it. Oh well, that's life in the tech world...

    The MediaMVP looks a lot like the ScreenPlay, both size and feature-wise, but cheaper. Maybe I'd have bought it insteas of the SP.

    Ripping a movie DVD is, but setting up MythTV isn't, and products like this (which my wife+kids think is better than sliced bread) media player isn't advertised as much as it should be.

    That's why I still buy DVDs (on sale from Amazon, natch), even though the first/only thing I do with them is rip to h264 so they are accessible from the DVR.

    Most popular Linux filesystems are atomic and should not need fsck, unless something really bad happens.

    We struggle to even get test machines; there's no way that "they" would pay for all that kit to just sit there gathering dust waiting for a disaster. If anything, it would be our DR machine and we'd instantly flip production over to it.

    Why in fuck's sake would we (a) sabotage a scientific mission, and (b) piss off the people who carry us to the ISS?

    Chances are reasonable, intentional or otherwise, one of these stations may have unduly influenced the operation of their rocket.

    Highly unlikely. I know what they look like and dose them out myself weekly into a dispenser, and the side effects of improper dosage are pretty apparent.

    but that's all because the x86 chips just havn't been small enough to be efficient and use little power to keep devices going for a long while.

    I wonder why Intel doesn't rip out the x86 decoder from it chips and then write compiler back-ends that directly generate micro-ops.

    Since the decoder stage is large and power-hungry, the resulting chips would be faster than any ARM variant while also being much smaller are low-power than Atoms.
