.. you assume that global warming simply means everywhere gets proportionally hotter, all year round. It doesn't.. Some places will get colder ...

The term is Global Warming. A combination of "global" and "warming". Which obviously means warming on a global scale. That's what the '"global" means. Globally so to speak. And no cooling either, just warming. Otherwise it'd be be called "global warming and cooling". Or local warming.

No, it's much simpler. Let's say you have to measure a 1 kilometer road. in meters:1,000 meter. Now do the same calculation for a 1 mile road. How many inches? What about a 4.2 mile road? The possibility for conversion and rounding errors is eliminated with the metric system, and that makes it superior to the imperial system.

In the EU (and probably elsewhere too) there are VERY compelling reasons to do so. ISPs are required by law to store all your e-mail (and other) traffic and make it available to the government at a whim. So much for the basic human right to privacy and private communications (but hey if you're no turrerist you've got nothing to hide eh?) They are still snooping port 25 and probably reading it at the receiving end anyway, but I'll be doing anything in my power to hinder the government from snooping on my private communications.
