    I had a loan car the other week because my car needed repairs. It was actively paired with over 30 phones. Clearing the Bluetooth device list took less than 30 seconds.. people just don't care, and honestly I fail to see how this might be exploited.

    Funny how when Apple fucks up anything, their customers always start pointing fingers at Microsoft. "B..b..b..but Microsoft is INSECURE! And it CRASHES!" Meanwhile ignoring that Apple is overpriced crap.

    A Macbook Air is an entry-level laptop with a smartphone chip

    Apple is one giant clusterfuck of vendor lock-in. How many dongles do you need on a daily basis?

  7. Well then, the post office isn't liable if you send drugs through the mail. They would be able to detect that.
    A car company isn't liable if you cause a traffic accident. They would be able to prevent many but it's too expensive.
    A gun company isn't liable when you kill someone. Still, the use case for guns is extremely clear.
    Etcetera. You cannot hold utility providers liable for what people choose to use it for, full period.

    The mainstream media may intensify its one sided attacks, though both candidates are clearly questionable on a number of issues, and it only shows how biased their reporting is. This just shows contempt for the intelligence of their audience. The media should report, and let the judging to the people.

    I hate to be a party pooper, but just a lack of religion or belief in gods is not enough, that's agnosticism. I'd say atheism means actively rejecting the existence of a god and the supernatural.

    What if the programmer is an AI program itself? I'd wager that a self-aware computer won't make silly logic mistakes. What if that AI is residing in another layer of simulation?

  12. This theory could easily replace existing religions with something more believable than a bearded man sitting on a cloud. In this case our supreme being would be a software engineer. If we are made in "His Image" than it follows that this engineer is most likely human as well and we are in a "planet evolution simulator", built by humans in "base reality" (probably. Nothing suggests that the simulation itself isn't recursively running in another simulation, a case of AI gone haywire). All hail our prophet Elon!

    This is insane! Besides an enforcement issue (Will the government check this man's belongings to make sure there are no backups?) The photos are his property as he is the photographer. This is a disturbing ruling. Now the subject gets to decide on how the artist portrays it. I modeled nude for a painting class a decade ago, can I have all these paintings destroyed?

    Think of literally *any* activity, object or substance, and you can find a person who has serious addiction issues with it. Usually it has more to do with the personality type than the subject of their addiction.

    VS Code is not a web-based, but a filesystem or git based code editor and debugger with support for .net, node.js and other language stacks. Somewhere between Sublime Text and Sharpdevelop.

    When you build this on your own, there is no need to explain every step in the way to someone else, give regular demos, document, and process input and reviews from many sources. Besides, everyone involved needs to get paid, and they work only 40 hours a week max where this kid can pull 100 hours a week for free if he's dedicated. 500k may even be cheap for a one off.

    The VW cheating resulted in two positive outcomes for the public. First, buyers have to pay far less environmental tax. Second, since the engine runs much more efficient in normal mode, resulting in lower diesel consumption. So they did most of their customers a favor while pissing off the authorities.
    I'd say having a bad crash safety record is a lot worse than that.

    The EU is tied second with Canada in that graph. By the way, it's not just productivity that counts, worker satisfaction and output quality are just as important. You can hardly claim that European products are shitty, they're just polished with a different mindset, and damn expensive.

    I think it's brilliant. And if "both sides are degraded", what is the problem? Both sides may enjoy it very much. I'd switch jobs if such perks were given.
