Wow... what is more sad? That you wrote that all or that I read that all? I don't think I agree that a machine, however intelligent, has any rights, other than the ones we expressly give it for whatever reason we see fit. Remember, self awareness != feeling/emotion. Just because they were "oppressed" (a notion I think I'm going to have to reject, because in my eyes it's like oppressing an overglorified hammer, computers are tools, not people) doesn't mean they cared or felt bad about it. Well maybe Data's brother (what's his name?) would care... But he's an evil bastard.

Fortunately my experience with *nix hasn't been that frustrating. However, from just trying to install software on a Solaris box I can tell you, I don't like it one bit. When I install software, I don't want to have to manually copy files and go in and edit config files myself. If this was 1980 I wouldn't mind. In Windows I can install your average piece of software in about as long as it takes for the installer program (something I have not found for any bit of software I've installed on *nix) to copy some files and update the registry. On *nix I have to spend an hour reading the goddamn installation instructions of every new piece of software, sometimes having to compile the damn thing myself. Unix may be rock solid, and Windows may be full of security holes, but at least I can get a Windows install along with all my favorite programs up and running in an hour or two (depending on the speed of the machine) and trash it and start fresh with ease if need be (something I've only had to do once for mtself in 10 years to be honest).

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about all the jobs being insourced? Those are the real tax cheats.

Uhhh, us on the far right (myself included) realize fossil fuels are limited. We realize alternative fuels are a must. We just don't get all paniced when we talk about fossil fuels running out. "And half of them probably would say "Poppycock; there's no way we could run out of fuel. God wouldn't let that happen to us!" It sounds like an anti-religion troll, but I seem to recall actually hearing rubbish like that from the far-right..." I don't know anyone who would honestly say that unless it was meant to poke fun at leftists who actualy think we think that. "At the moment, to the average Merkin, it will sound amazingly ridiculous to "waste" a 100x100 mile area "just so some pinko environmentalist wackos can stop using oil". (I'm sorry, but that's how the right-leaning folks in this nation will interpret it.)" Again, us right-leaning folks wouldn't mind at all so long as a good cost-benefit analysis is done. If the benefits outweigh the costs then I say let's start building algae tanks. Contrary to popular beliefs us right-leaning folks do care about the environment and about finding alternative energy. We just don't freak out and come to the premature conclusion the sky is falling. We all want clean effecient renawable energy. But, what we don't want, is that to come at the cost of human progress (which actually will include alternative fuels if you ask me). So many environmentalist wackos out there would rather save the spotted owl than save mankind. It's that kind of view that we cannot stand. So don't go assuming that we are against alternative energy.

I knew a guy who worked at one of the local Best Buy's. A lady, in her lat 30's came into the store with a computer that wouldn't boot. She asked the guy I knew to have a look at it. He took it back and realized the power supply wasn't working. One of his co-workers convinced him it would be rather funny if instead of telling her what the problem is and fixing it they tell her a BS story and see if she buys it. So they take the computer back to her and inform her that her computer is in need of a new flux capacitor. She apparently has no idea what they are talking about and they decide to run with it, the guy tells her that they do not have any flux capacitors in stock at the moment, but the Circuit City across the street usually does. Well the lady takes her computer over to the Circuit City and apparently tells them what she was told. About 20 to 30 minutes later the lady comes back into the Best Buy with her computer and tells the guy and his co-worker that Circuit City didn't know what she was talking about. They tell her they'll take another look at her computer and take it back and about 10 minutes later come out and say that they were right and she does in fact need a new flux capacitor. They suggest she take it to the Best Buy in the town just north of where their location and ask them, visibly frustrated at this point she leaves the store. About an hour later they get a call from the lady, who is furious and screams over the phone something to the effect of "YOU LITTLE ****ERS! A FLUX CAPACITOR ISN'T ****ING REAL!!! IT'S FROM A ****ING MICHAEL J FOX MOVIE!!!! I will NEVER shop at Best Buy again!!!!"

Unlike a lot of people I don't make excuses for my illegal filesharing. I'm a pirate, and I know it. Let's put it this way: If this was the 1700's and the RIAA was a ship I'd have approached it with a white flag flying, set off my cannons at point blank range, boarded their vessel, taken all their treasure, raped their women, killed their children, and tortured their men, then scuttled the ship. I don't complain about outdated business models or unfair laws or corporate greed (I happen to like big corporations, they happen to employ people who pay for my tuition). I don't claim that filesharing is a right. I don't claim copyright laws are bullshit. I don't go off on rants about how artists are getting screwed by the record companies. I'm not gonna lie, I downloaded 1.08 gigs of music illegaly TODAY alone. And I'll do it again tomorrow. Why? Because I like music and stealing it costs me nothing, and much like pirates on the seven seas in the days of old it's more fun, easier, and faster than obtaining it legally. I wear my pirate hat and my hook and my peg leg with pride. Filesharers should stop making excuses and fly their Jolly Roger's with pride, just like us pirates did in the days of old. Now if you'll excuse me, a band I like just released a new album. I'm a pirate, are you?
