"America does give billions of dollars to Egypt to support a regime which suppresses political action of all kinds, including Islamist parties."
And if we stopped giving aide (not only to Egypt but any nation that suppress their people) how long do you think it would be before the left cried foul?
In case you missed why I posted that it's because MS is not the exclusive provider of any kind of good or service nor have they ever been. There are dozens of alternatives.
That's more or less what I do. I refuse to spend any more than $4 on an EP/LP if I haven't heard it at least 3-4 times. Nearly every record or CD I've bought I downloaded first. The few where that's not the case I only payed a couple bucks for and most of those are demos that I bought from the band themselves. If I'm gonna spend $10-$12 on an album I better know for a fact I like it. Last month alone I spent $450 on music, not including shows and merch like t-shirts.
Can we have ONE thread on slashdot where people don't start talking about Bush, Iraq, War, etc. when it's completely unrelated to the topic? It's really starting to make reading the comments painful.
How the hell did this generate to a discussion on far right vs far left in American politics?
Listen, there are wackos on the right and wackos on the left, but they sure as shit don't have anything to do with censorship in Iran.
That's exactly why I sniped four auctions today alone. I dont just bid how much I want to spend right away, because there will be 20 people who will outbid me within a day. I let the price stay low, then bid my max within the last 45 seconds, that way I can keep the price low and ensure the item is mine. Bwahahahaha!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't care. Tell me when they figure out how to integrate copyright protection into vinyl and THEN you'll have my attention.
My record collection > your CD collection.
This makes me glad that I have a printer and paper good enough to print photos at the same quality I could get at Wal-Mart or CVS. Not that I ever really need it, but it's there on the odd ocassion I do.
Emphasis on "requiring they provide the option". The government has no right to dictate what options a business offers to its customers. And the government CERTAINLY does not have the right to tell businesses they must develop and implement or purchase and implement technology they do not already possess. That may or may not be the case here, but it is a trend I am seeing lately that scares me. The government telling companies, "you must have this technology or we will punish you".
As a member of the "rabid right" I'm glad the ACLU is stepping up on this one. I fail to see how this gives those of us on the right any ammunition against them. I would question anyone who claims to be a conservative who supports legislation of this sort. There is nothing right wing about it. A real conservative would think that government should stay out of this sort of thing and that forcing ISPs to restrict content is absurd.
Let me preface this by saying I have no tattoos or peircings, I'm deathly afraid of needles.
My personal experience has taught me that a persons skill, knowledge, and experience matter more than their personal appearance and that just because some bums have tattoos and some CEOs don't doesn't mean there is a casual relationship there. You can be a clean cut skill-less idiot or a tattooed up expert who knows a lot about whatever it is you do. The outside does not necessarily reflect the inside.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but around here, being a nerd/geek is considered hot. Yeah that's right, the ladies (especially attractive ones) love me for my brain. I talk about computers and they're all like "omg Sean you're so smart, plz2bethefatherofmychildrenkthx".
PS: I am being totally 100% serious. It scares me sometimes.
Anyone else notice how broken/. has been lately? Maybe it's just a false impression I'm getting based on a few incidents, or maybe I just notice it now. But it seems there's been a lot more duped stories, bot floods of comments, and entire discussions over mod points compared to even a month or two ago.
None of this really effects me since 95% of the music I buy is vinyl. The other 5% is mostly demo CD-Rs I bought from the band themselves.
I'll worry when they come up with a DRM scheme to keep me from copying my Chain Of Strength 7"s.
"We want to encourage the creation of new art, but Napster and its successors such as Kazaa have done an extraordinary amount of damage to the ability of artists to do so."
None of the musicians I know seem to be having trouble creating music these days.
Oh wait, you meant top 40 "artists".
If you want to support the creation of art, buy demo tapes/vinyl and go to a show and buy merch there.

Couldn't agree more. I got the MS wireless desktop elite keyboard and mouse ($99.99 at Fry's). It is by far the best keyboard I've ever used. What makes it so is mostly the extra buttons up top. I use the calculator one at least 10 times a day. And the volume control/play control/mute button for WMP (I use it, shut up, it works for me) up top is probably going to wear out soon I use it so much. Not to mention the customizable quicklaunch buttons. I got mine set to open the command prompt, Ultra Edit, the registry editor, notepad, and MSVC++. And it has buttons to open a slew of other things too. And lest we forget the browser forward/backward buttons with a scroll wheel beneath them?
And that's just the keyboard, the mouse is even cooler.
I personally prefer to lead a radically different life that is isolated from the majority of the population in my area. Diversity is overrated.

"Not to sound conservative or anything" Ouch, you say that as if it's a bad thing.
You sir have expressed my thoughts in a way I only wish I could.

My record collection is better than yours.

I just bought 3 cassettes today. Granted they were made in 1996... Hooray for Earth Crisis demo tapes.

The New York Times says a lot of things...
Methinks your outlook on humanity is a bit too optimistic. PS: profit = prosperity = better lives for everyone
