And, for some reason, none of my credit cards will successfully swipe at their registers. Not even the one that was only 2 weeks old. That makes paying a real PITA.
There's no reason it should be a PITA for you; make the sales jerk type it in!
I thought that for a long time. After seeing The Dark Knight I can't agree with it anymore, but I would say that Adam West's portrayal is incomparable with any of the others.
Google is claiming it's bad because it makes it harder to hire [gay] people, but it just laid off a bunch of people so it's not doing any hiring anyway.
They say the main impediment to speech and writing in babies is motor skills, not understanding. So it's not unreasonable to think that if the kid can physically manage to press the keys he could communicate, even if he can't yet control his vocal cords well enough to do so verbally.
And has her high school not taught her anything about computers?
Now that's one part of the story I could believe! Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, every normal (i.e., not gifted program or CCNA) computer class my school offered consisted entirely of following lists of instructions by rote. No understanding was required, and no understanding was created. Anybody who had any actual computer literacy whatsoever either avoided the classes because they were useless, or used them as free slack-off time.
Look, there's usability problems, and then there's PEBKAC problems. This was a PEBKAC problem. This exact same chain of events would have occurred if her computer had been running OS X (because it would also not be able to run Verizon's Windows software or the Windows version of MS Office). Does that mean OS X has usability issues too? Of course not!
The real problem here is that she doesn't have the basic competence to use any computer, Linux or not. Computer literacy is nothing more or less than the ability and inclination to try stuff until you figure it out, or at least have explored enough to ask reasonable questions. It's like regular literacy: literacy is not about being able to glyphs with phonemes, it's about understanding the ideas being conveyed by those glyphs or phonemes. Rote memorization of tasks (e.g., "move the arrow to the blue 'e' and press the button to start the Internet") is not understanding, and is not literacy.
Aye, that's the rub! She didn't agree to a legal fee; she got duped into it!
It is not unethical to refuse to honor an "agreement" made in bad faith, which is what occurred here. The only unethical party is the scammer she downloaded the software from.
Why would you program in C# on Linux? Mono support is years behind the feature sets that MS is rolling out. There are a variety of languages/frameworks that are better supported than.NET.
Because C# is nice, and you don't have to use.NET with it.
It also means that they'll never be able to change the license again in the future -- no worries about future versions going to a proprietary license (or even back to regular GPL).

I missed the part where distributing.o files (i.e., not source files) for a closed program is inherently a problem. (I can see where it's perhaps inconvenient, but that's not a deal-breaker.) You could even mostly pre-link the thing, so that all the user has to do is link together my_closed_program.lib and KDE.lib.
Finally, while both are object oriented, GTK is written entirely in C. Object oriented programming in C is pretty harsh, and the only other option you really have is to use the Python binding, which introduces a whole new set of issues.
There's also GTK#. C# is nice, despite being created by Microsoft.
You should also consider that Montalban's character was not Latino (Khan was a Sikh, according to Wikipedia). Neither was Beltran's, per se, but a Native American character is more significantly diverse than a Latino one anyway, since Latinos are just half Native American and half European.
If you wanted to run a heater (2000W) that would mean 170A of current, which would require large impractical, expensive bus bars in the wall.
Heaters run on 120VAC already anyway. I wasn't proposing replacing normal 120VAC wiring, but wiring the house for DC in addition to it.
Finally, you could possibly run 2 sets of wiring, one as low voltage DC and one as high voltage AC but this increases the overall cost, and you sitll would need to determine which DC voltage would work best, otherwise electronic stuff would still require DC-DC power supplies.
It's not even a Real Person that calls. It's an automated recording, and to reach a Real Person you have to press a button (which they'll of course claim means that you "accepted" the fraudulent call), and then wait on hold for about 10 minutes!
I was thinking of power for devices slightly larger than that, such as my router, cable modem, (powered) USB hub, speakers, clock radio, game console, cable converter box, etc. Maybe even the stuff that has its power supply built-in, like the PC, monitor, TV, and laser printer too. I would also want it to be a 12V or maybe 48V standard, not a 5V one.
Who the hell has TiVo, but not cable or satellite? What would you record?!
Besides, the "ads" he's talking about are the kind that scroll across the bottom of the screen like stock tickers or NWS storm warnings. They occur during the show, so you can't skip them with TiVo (unless you want to miss your show along with it).
There's no reason it should be a PITA for you; make the sales jerk type it in!
That's okay; Ein upstaged Spike a couple of times too.
Shut up, fool! If the producers read that they'll take is as a challenge!

It's not my logic, it's theodp's. I was just explaining what he wrote. If you have a problem with it, take it up with him!
Look, I was just explaining the blurb-writer's reasoning to stoolpigeon. If you have a problem with that reasoning, don't take it out on me!

This is the link you were looking for.

If so, then they're about a decade behind schedule...

Try "-1, Offtopic" for the guy making the political joke instead.
