According to one of the comments on that blog, which I read before it finally crumbled under the weight of slashdot, commenter 'Rick' claims that Google Deskbar uses Google's own fab, internally written browser. This internally written browser is apparently 'fast and incredibly compatible'.
Sounds great! Problem is, the browser component in Google Deskbar == Internet Explorer.
Hilarious. So, by this token presumably J2EE would be 'a version of COM+', given that J2EE shares some of the goals of COM+ but is otherwise completely unrelated to it.
At the risk of appearing impolite, what a fucking idiot you are.
I went and read the first article - 'The faith-based encyclopaedia' and thought that it made a lot of valid points about the potential shortcomings of a publically editable medium that is intended to hold authoritative information.
I tried reading the supposedly 'intelligent rejoinder' but quickly realised it was written by one of those tiresome tinfoil-hattists that just loves to squawk about FUD at the drop of a hat. I must admit that as a result, the guys message, whatever it was, didnt make much of an impact on me. 'Faith-based' seems to be an excellent term to use.
iPod shuffle owners are more likely to be credulous orange sunglass wearing gimps. This is easily explained by the fact that, to be an iPod shuffle owner, one needs have looked at the range of available MP3 players and then purchased an iPod shuffle.
Not only is it not really free - XP Firewall only works on XP. I only found this out after shelling out for a copy of XP so's I could install the firewall on my Linux box. What a total rip-off.:-(
Why? Why should internet technology forever be frozen "pre-Javascript"? Is this a new form of the Amish tradition? Why not roll it back to pre-images? No site should require that my browser display images.
Christ yeah, deliver us from these tiresome neo-luddite elitists. Gmail provides a good example of javascript used to deliver a much better web-app UI than would have been possible with HTML.
So what exactly is this going to get me over say something like using Python and the soon to be released gpl qt for windows?
Whenever I try and program in python, the whole process takes much longer, because I make loads of mistakes that dont get caught until runtime. And it takes much longer to write code, because I have to type every character, instead of letting the computer type 80% of it for me, through the magic of 'intellisense'. And I cant use refactoring tools.
So, to summarise, python is more productive, but only for geniuses like yourself.
Having read all the damning evidence on this thread that proves that Windows is hopelessly outclassed by Linux, what do you now expect to be the relative market share of the two operating systems 'on the desktop', in five years time:
Windows will be: A) still much much much more popular than Linux. B) much more popular than Linux. C) 'a lot' more popular than Linux. D) definately more popular than Linux by a large margin.
And, if I may, a supplementary question:
The coming change in popularity of Windows (or lack thereof) will be as a result of: A) Populace still brainwashed by Evil Billy Gate$ and Sweaty Ballmer'$ FUD against Linux. B) People FORCED to use Windows because all their recipes are in evil proprietary MSWord 'doc' format. C) Everyones broadband internet connections fail due to Windows Malware, meaning no-one can download ISOs for desired linux distro. D) Excitable portion of the Linux advocate population guilty of exaggerating Windows' shortcomings, juuuust a smidgeon.
which would you rather be supported by, a noisy, demanding minority who expect everything for free or a quiet, servile majority for whom putting their hands in their pockets is pretty much a reflex?
Final question, do you by any chance know any children?
Why, you insensitive person. His children were killed in the massive famines which swept the developed world in the eighties, killing tens of millions. If only people had listened to the predictions, back in the seventies.
I said I feel I must point out that Cringely is a towering, drivelling arse of mammoth figurative proportions. [Modded 'Troll']
Please forgive the previous unwarranted and churlish outburst; I stand corrected. Robert Cringely is an eminently sensible gentleman who has never spouted risible bollocks in his life. I hang upon his every utterance. As, I believe, do we all.
IF the climate was to get warmer, and the polar ice caps were to start melting, especially the North Pole, this would distrupt the Gulf Stream which hits the UK, and parts of Europe... If the Gulf stream is disrupted, The UK will turn into a scandanavian country, with huge snowfalls, etc
Theory stated as fact. Some people think it might happen so therefore it definately will.
They might be able to tell you how likely it is that you'll pick up an infestation of spyware (Hint: It's somewhere between Buckley's and none).
Of course, the small space between 'Buckleys' (whatever that is) and none is large enough for key beardy open-source advocate Richard Stallman to get his servers owned by unknown nefarious baddies.
For months.
Total server compromise - somewhat more serious than 'spyware', some would consider.
He must have been running Windows NT without key security updates or something. Maybe he was running an unpatched SQLServer instance...
Im not an American, but didn't the Boston Tea Party consist of tipping some tea into the harbour? I'd like to see the current realistic definition of 'Terrorism' that encompases that, not including legalistic definitions twisted to fit.
It's true - it was a happy land. They had happy children flying kites and happy men drinking in happy cafes.
(BTW, the 500,000 children that were once claimed to have died due to sanctions - erase that fact, it's no longer useful and couldnt have happened in the actual Happy Iraq that is what Iraq actually was in fact, honest)
I saw it on Fahrenheit 9/11 so it must be true.
Even the dead tens of thousands lying in their mass graves grinned happily.
Now the CIA are dressing up as religious fanatics and Baathists and blowing up children and infrastructure - no more happiness.:-(
The enemy has twenty missiles and you have fifteen anti missiles. Well, there are five missiles that will get through. If those five missiles are nuclear, we have a problem! Ok, less than twenty, but five is enough.
Java [...] always will be faster since CLR "assemblies" prevent the most effective dynamic optimizations.
.NET python also faster than the main version of python implemented in C!
If this is true, then why is the CLR's python implementation (in pre-alpha) ALREADY faster than the (mature) JVM implementation?
Arent you talking rubbish?
PS: they were both written by the same guy.
(performance figures: pystone benchmark)
PPS: the same benchmark has
Ho hum, I wonder when the CLR will catch up with that pesky JVM...

A new version of COM+, wow how exciting!
Hilarious. So, by this token presumably J2EE would be 'a version of COM+', given that J2EE shares some of the goals of COM+ but is otherwise completely unrelated to it.

It's funny when you say the verbs like they're present tense and stuff.
He's probably assuming that the WinFS API resembles the one MS handed out back in 2003.
Maybe he should be using the past tense.

I hope this clears up your confusion.
As far as Windows.Forms is concerned, they are mostly just a thin wrapper of managed code around the cruft of Win32/MFC
Windows.Forms contains zero percent MFC.

Be realistic, Mac users arent the majority.
Well, I chuckled.

Everything is your fault - all that remains is to build the computer model that proves it.
