    Considering how much of the modern internet consists of worthless clickbait sites, expecting people to pay for those is asking an awful lot. So those sites either go bankrupt or survive by using abusive advertising.

    Yep. $100 million is a lot of money to spend if a case truly has no merit. It doesn't cost nearly that much to pay attorneys to litigate something to death. They paid up to avoid further damage.

    Blaming parents is a cop-out.

    No it isn't; it's the crux of the problem. In school districts with lots of involved parents, the schools are good because the parents insist on it. Kids that come from homes where parents do not value education hardly ever succeed academically. There are always occasional exceptions, but by in large parental involvement is the single biggest predictor of academic success.

    Every state in the United States has the same set of laws banning anyone from selling new cars except members of the Dealer Cartel. This way they can outlaw any real competition. Car dealerships are second only to farmers in terms of congressional lobbying effectiveness.

    Exactly. I've been saying for years that the cause of traffic congestion is stupid people, one way or the other. They change lanes at a bad time and slow down 2 lanes of traffic at once, they don't pay attention and go when traffic moves in front of them, and they don't stop in time and cause a crash which really screws things up. Get rid of the stupid idiotic human drivers and automobile travel will be truly awesome. Of course the only way this would work is for manual-driving cars to be banned as soon as autonomous cars become widespread enough.

    Every US state with a sales tax taxes stuff you buy out of state (in theory anyway). They just call it a Use Tax, but it really amounts to nothing more than imposing a tax on commerce that took place in another state.

    OK, so take this another step farther. Move you and your money to a country that does not have reciprocity with the United States, or where that reciprocity would never be acted on in practice. There are plenty of these countries.

    Most lawsuits are settled, with non-disclosure agreements as part of the settlement. Only if it goes to court and gets publicity will the next employer be likely to find out.
