Every business and individual should have the right to end a business relationship that is not its best interests.
Not sure if you read the article, the summary or even the title but....
They are fully within their rights to end any business relationship for non-discriminatory reasons and still keep their Common Carrier Status. However if they want to enjoy the privileges of Common Carrier, then they need to abide by the responsibilities of that status.
...the last one being unnecessarily bundled with iTunes...
You can download QuickTime for Windows here without iTunes if you want.
...but at least it's a flimsy wrapper around Direct Show, which means you can easily program a new interface without knowing the first thing about video codecs.
The QuickTime Player is just a wrapper around the QuickTime Framework as well. I agree crippling the QTPlayer without QTPro is really stupid.
The only thing should be encoding support requiring QTPro if anything at all.
And for all you anti-mac people, make sure that everyone knows that mail.app has no such default ability, proving that Windows is the ultimate OS and mac is the POS. The best you can do is not display remote images, which will solve the web bug problem, but not the phishing problem.
Apple Mail can display the plain text version of an email by default:
Probably not using VRFY, more likely HELO, MAIL FROM:<>, RCPT TO: , QUIT.
We use the response to the RCPT TO: as verification if the email address is valid. As no data is sent, the receiving server should abandon the message.
Whilst i'm not totally convinced on the secure attention sequence idea, lets hope that if Apple do implement it, they make sure it works. Unlike Windows where its not secure as you can intercept it.
Apple's DRM method for your non DRM'd music is to erase everything from the device if you plug it into another computer (that's news I got from an actual owner I trust to get things right).
When you plug an iPod into a computer that it has not been connected to before, it asks if you would like to synchronize it with this computer. It warns you in no uncertain terms that this will replace the iPod contents with the current iTunes library.
The only way what you describe above could have happened would be that the user did not read the message, and clicked OK rather than cancel.
NB You can click cancel, open the iPod settings and turn it to manual update, then copy songs to the iPod from any iTunes Mac / PC.
So you admit to breaking the agreement with Google? You're only allowed one account.
Having just checked both the GMail Terms of Use and the Program Policy,
the only information I can find relating to multiple accounts is: "Prohibited Actions: Create multiple user accounts in connection with any violation of the Agreement or create user accounts by automated means or under false or fraudulent pretenses...."
which is under the Program Policy.
Where are you getting your information regarding only one account being allowed?
Just report it anonymously to the DPA. Sound advice. Part of my job can involve collecting information for an investigation within the Bank, without the subject being aware that we are looking at what they are doing.
However it is all detailed that the Bank *may* carry out Special Investigations should the need arise, in the employee handbook and with the DPA. If we run afoul of the DPA we are in BIG trouble and would expect an internal smackdown, not to mention the external repercussions.
You have to ask, if the company are willing to break the law with regard to the DPA, what else are they doing?
The basic idea is that you can't burn the same playlist with protected songs more than 7 times. You can add a song (then remove it) or delete and recreate the playlist, but unless you make some change to it, you are limited to 7 burns.
itunes 6 only allows you to burn 5 CDs then burning is locked out forever.
Got any proof of this, because iTunes 6 on my Mac says:
If your playlist includes songs that were purchased from the iTunes Music Store, you can only burn seven copies of the playlist to an audio CD. You may have exceeded the number of times you can burn this playlist.
You can then create a new playlist with your iTunes Music Store songs on and burn again 7 more times....
Maybe your getting confused with the play protected songs on 5 authorized computers at a time?
Why would you think that? Microsoft has the BEST support for multiple OS and backwards compatibility that I've ever seen in the entire software industry.
I would suggest you look at z/OS, where I am currently running a module that a predecessor wrote back in 1975 (way before I was born). Not to mention the iSeries lot, where they have changed the hardware architecture twice (ala the PPC to x86 mac change) without any recompiles, let alone source changes. And again, OpenVMS where I can run stuff written for VMS 2.0 on VMS 7.3.
The software industry is more than just Microsoft.
Actually, I get the impression that this is an old-style Mac executable, which does not use the.app extention.
I don't think your right on this because it is distributed via a tar archive, and I don't think that tar can handle the resource fork required to have the file-type set to APPL. And if you Get-Info on the file, however it may be an executable, it will clearly indicate that it is not a document.
Oh, and the +x access to the file is coming from the tar archive, just the same as it would on any UNIX style OS.
I think Apple may need to make it *really* obvious that this is an executable, and your about to do something that could be really dumb, but I don't know what they should do, without making it another 'everyone just clicks OK, doesn't read the message'.
You can already see any of the changes made to Wikipedia pages. Have a look at the history link and you can compare the differences between any of the revisions, not just the 2 next to each other.
Why can't I have an applications menu or panel under RMB instead....
I'm not sure why you'd want it, but you can have a contextual menu of the currently running applications. Have a look at FruitMenu from Unsanity. It does all of that and more (for $5 or so)
It seems like none of the apps that high-end Apple users actually use aren't going to be out for quite some time.
Except the Apple Pro applications (Final Cut, DVD Studio, Motion, Logic, Shake, Soundtrack etc. They are going to be released as Universal in Feb / March
Can windows auditing tell the difference between opening the file in Excel, and copying it somewhere else with explorer?
OpenVMS auditing showing the image that generated the request, and if I dig through SMF I can usually tell how the dataset was accessed under MVS (ala z/OS)

Umm, no.
The only time its 18 is when someone over 18 is in a position of trust regarding the under 18 year old.The age of consent is 16 for everyone, the UK doesn't discriminate anymore.

Ummm, you realize that Slashcode adds a [nofollow] attribute to your HREF URLs so your comment spamming won't affect anything much.
Except make you look a little silly.
Apple Mail can display the plain text version of an email by default:
Please research your facts before posting incorrect information.
Probably not using VRFY, more likely HELO, MAIL FROM:<>, RCPT TO: , QUIT.
We use the response to the RCPT TO: as verification if the email address is valid.
As no data is sent, the receiving server should abandon the message.
Our implementation checks the SPF records before making a VerifyMailFrom check.
And we cache the responses to help with the load.
Close, its Apple Compressor that does the conversion of formats.
It can also use Qmaster to use multiple machines in Batch.
Kinda like the Acrobat Distiller of movies, and its part of Final Cut Studio.
Unlike Windows where its not secure as you can intercept it.
Have a look at SysInternals - Ctrl2Cap utility for a working example.

We use it and it really does wonders for my inbox.

True, not everyone lives in the US, however in order to be-able to purchase TV shows from iTunes, you have to have a US credit card.
You have to be a member of the admins group in order to use sudo on OS X.
Ordinary users don't get to play.
