Guess what? Diesel engines can and do run off of propane/methane too. They need just a little diesel mixed in as well. I have seen city buses with natural gas tanks on them for this reason.
I used to support many odd devices like hydraulic rams, helium guns, and electron microscopes that ran obsolete software and hardware on Windows 3.11 (yech!!!). It was IMPOSSSIBLE to upgrade because the vendor was long since out of business. Many of your tool-and-die buddies may have something similar.
Broadband over Power Lines is a great example of the newer tech destroying the older tech. That will be something to document. (For those who don't know, traditional HF radio will be about impossible if BPL becomes common)
Also might want to look into the anti-social aspects. For about 80 years prior to the PC becoming common ham radio was where people who did not want face to face contact hung out.
"Ignore the fact that the Constitution valued the life of a negro slave as 3/5ths of a man"
Can everyone PLEASE learn some history!!!!!!!
The slave states wanted slaves to count as much as whites so they could get more congressmen! The NORTHERN STATES wanted them not counted at all since they could not vote and this would give huge political power to slave owners. The 3/5s was a compromise as to congressional representation without which it is doubtful there would ever have been a USA.
Ahhhh, the "Roaring 90s". The good old days. When Alqueda was blowing things up like the World Trade center and no one really paid any attention to them except to get a good laugh when they demanded their deposit back from U-Haul even though they blew up the truck instead of returning it with a full tank of gas. When Al Queda realized that no matter what they did all that might happen to them was a random attack on a few tents in Afghanistan or an aspirin factory in Sudan. Back when 9/11 was being funded and put into motion. Are those the Good Old Days we want back?????

Freedom does NOT equal welfare and medical care. Since when does having the government take care of you equal being free???????????
In Canada it is now outright illegal to pay a doctor cash for service even if you wanted to. Canada may have higher levels of social services, but that isn't exaclty the same as higher levels of freedom. Thankfully Canadians ARE free to vote for a government that does not pursue these policies just like USA citizens can vote for one that does.
I have a MUCH more likely theory. Americans are smart enough to realize that war is a nasty business and if we decide that we can't fight wars without hurting and killing innocent people, then we really can't fight wars at all. Unilaterally disarming in a dangerous world is not a bright idea. Americans also realize that our enemies set out to kill as many civilians as possible whenever they can. Does anyone think "turning the other cheek" after 9/11 would have done anything but make Al Queda bolder? I know a few people who think blatant war crimes like Abu Graihbe (sp?) are OK, but these are a thankfully small minority. If we agonzied over civilian casualties in 1941 like this article suggests we should the whole world would have fallen to the vilest evil imaginable.
Very interesting theory, but I have my doubts. The Black Plague in Europe resulted in a shortage of labor and gave rise to a middle class of well paid (at least compared to a serf....)craftsmen and laborers that had actual political power (again - at least compared to a serf). Agriculture also shifted away from labor-intensive methods of production to crops and livestock that didn't require an abundant and docile population to work. Something like this *might* happen in Africa. The other half of your prediction would be based on successive administrations in the USA becoming more religious and oppresive than the last one. Our history so far is more like a sine wave where we deviate from the center for awhile and then swing back the other way.
America and Africa will trade places??????????
I think you might be minimizing, maybe by just a little teensy bit, the problems of a continent beset by near constant war and starvation. Do you know of any part of North America that is facing a disaster of epic proportions because a large part of the adult population will be DEAD from AIDS soon?
I want to flame you to the crisp you deserve without launching a shotgun attack. To help me (and certainly some others) out, please tell us what country is burdened with your citizenship, where you live, and what your country has contributed to the world.
Thanks!
Are you just a stupid troll or are you really that ignorant?
Do you have ANY FUCKING CLUE how hard it is to become a military test pilot? These guys werre not a bunch of average achievers that randomly picked military flying instead of working at the hardware store after having a few beers.
Translation: Move to some country that taxes the hell out of everyone and and get a slacker job. Then sit back and relax while OTHER PEOPLE'S money and effort pay for your loser lifestyle.
Ask your Iranian friend how he would feel if a country run by 13th Century religious fanatics that are well known sponsors of worldwide terrorism decided to make nuclear weapons.
I used to fly an airplane that held about 12 people and it sure as hell woudln't get very far on 30 gallons of fuel! Actually that was around the legally required amount of fuel to be LEFT OVER after I landed.
A friend of mine booby-trapped his trash cans with 120 volts to keep raccoons out. He had to set his alarm very early because if you let the trash men get shocked they will NEVER pick up your trash again.
Anyone who has trained a dog or raised a child knows how vital EARLY exposure to stimuli and early education is vital to the developement of the brain. If this tribe has no reason to use math or counting beyond 1,2,many obviously they are not teaching their kids to count beyond that either. When you teach kids numbers you aren't only teaching them to pronounce the words, you are teaching them to count. Someone who grows up without ever having this type of exposure to counting would obviously have a very hard time learning this as an adult.
Here is the big problem: Baggage MUST be positively matched to passengers. You cannot takeoff if there are bags aboard without the corresponding passengers. Sad to say if you don't do this then non-suicidal terrorists will put bombs in their bags and "miss" the flight.
There were quite a few misguided notions to subject "private airplanes" to airline style security until the futility of trying to secure 250,000 privately owned vehicles in that way became apparent. BTW, in common useage a private airplane is like your car, i.e it is owned by an individual or company for their own use. Public air carriers are privately owned, but are not usually referred to that way. Public aircraft, in the FAA world, are aircraft owned by government agencies like the FBI or the Air Force.
Are there ANY tech fields where women are 50%?
ME? CE? EE? CS?
I went to a flight/aeronautical engineering school and it was about 20% female. Besides for all that the stereotype of long hours and late nights sure isn't going to attract anyone that thinks they might want to have kids and actually get to see them.
Back in the "day", for X $$$ a Mac was SO much slower than a PC it was pathetic. I used to do support for a mixed Mac-PC lab and I always thought the Macs were broken they were so slow. I hated them with a passion. When they WOULD do something it was what they thought you really wanted them to do, not what you actually typed/clicked.
If you look at the history of the Learjet, the original (Lear 23) DID push the envelope a bit and could actually leave more than one subsonic military jet in the dust. It also had a high accident rate.
Attitude is an aeronautical term for orientation as well as a term for someone's emotional state, so you can stop with all the typo jokes now. It IS possible for lack of attitude control to affect the pilot's attitude. Something like going from "This is fun" to "HolyfskingShit!"

Right now there is NOTHING for marine navigation. See http://www.sping.com/seaclear/ and www.fugawi.com for Windows versions of these programs.
