  1. There is a difference on Open Access To Scientific Literature: Can It Work? · · Score: 1

Not everything you find on the internet is true and credible, even if it seems like it is. In general books have a higher level of credibility and are often checked by more than one person to avoid flaws.

  3. Re:A bright future on Can Star Wars Episode III Be Saved? · · Score: 1
The great difference between the prequel and the original films is that in the original films there is a great difference between good and bad. What the prequel films are telling us is how the two sides originated. If anything, all six films has to be seen as a whole.

What may be argued is that almost everything is so very clean and polished in the prequel films, but I see this as intentional, since the original films occurs during a state of war.

Even though JarJar is annoying, and can be seen as a menace, it is important to note that the spectrum of individuals is important when a film is made. If we had seen an aged JarJar in the original film, we wouldn't have made such a fuzz about him.

It is also very useful for debugging protocols that acts in the background like DNS and similar.

What nowadays is a common problem is that most networks are switched, which means that it's not that easy to sniff the network traffic unless you know what the limitations are.

  6. A long time ago on Real Problems · · Score: 1
I considered that Real was RealJunk, since it was getting more and more messy to install and find to download. Maybe I have an old version of the free player somewhere on a CD, but I really don't care.

A player that I really prefer is actually Winamp, even though it lacks some features. I think that it does what it's supposed to do without being a CPU hog like Windows Media Player. (I once had problems with the sound quality on a MP3 and later found out that it was that WMP needed too much CPU. A switch to Winamp 2 resulted in the sound I wanted!)

  7. IMEI tracking on 500 EURO reward for finding car by finding laptop · · Score: 1

The phone companies are actually able to track IMEI numbers, but they are usually not willing to do it. They can fairly easy track down to which cell a certain phone is located in, even if the SIM card is changed. What is necessary to be able to track your phone is to first let the police take interest.

It's not that stupid. I have an Aspire 1700, and it is heavy, but I see it as a portable workstation not as a laptop. If you want performance and acceptable portability then this is the choice. If you are doing software development in varying locations you don't want to have the tired centrinos with sluggish harddisks and small screens. But if you only run Word and Excel, you can as well look up a small size Sony Vaio. Alltogether, this is a performance portable, not a showroom snail.

Makes me note that during the early 80's Nokia had a PC with an "AIDS" key. I wonder what happened then! :-> From my point of view, the least useful keys are the windows keys, since it's so easy to accidentally tap them. If it gets too nasty I put something under the keycap just to keep me from hitting that key accientally, especially the one beside the AltGr key that I need to get {[]} etc. (running swedish keymap) If they were beyond the pause/break key it would have been much more sensible.
